I currently own this viper. You can find videos on my UA-cam. The real cost here is paying somebody else to work on your cars. This car is extremely reliable and has only improved since I got it. Doesn't cost me much to drive other than tires. Makes a little over 2100hp turned up. Crazy to imagine how much he ended up spending with it.
Wow! Thanks for the update, Chief 🤓👍
Nice!! I’d love to come see it run again! Where do you live?
2100 fards per shid
@@andynelson9225 I'm in central Florida. It broke a rocker tip a little bit ago on the crower rockers and they don't make them anymore so it had to come apart to get T&D parts. Machine shop screwed me on time so it's going to a new one should be back together by end of the year.
gotta pay to play
"I don't talk to them much.. but when I do it's like old times " and the middle fingers go up, and they yell hey Daddy's money..
what's wrong with a wealthy alleged father, buying his supposed children nice cars???
@@drsrsv8884 it’s more the fact that most car guys are under the assumption built is better than bought and someone buying a build with daddy’s money is an egregious crime against the car community. Or something c
I'm just saying, that based on the story, and history, and wins.. this struck me as a more realistic experience for the story..
In this episode of VinWiki, we watch a man talk about his addiction to meth...anol and speed
I worked with guys years ago who where really into racing. It's then I learned there is always someone willing to spend more money than you to win. These guys were working crazy hours and racking up debt like no tomorrow. But at the end of the day it's the deepest wallet that wins.
Billy Hoskinson would like to have a word with you.
At the top they are all spending the same money, the one who wins is better engineered.
What a whale for the shops that worked on his car. $80k/year lol.
This dude makes me feel way better about the 40k I have into modifying my C5 🤣
When you spend that much on a c5 it hurts to think I could have spent half on a c6 and made it faster
40k buys a lot of coke and hookers
@@amazin7006 I haven't even started making it faster yet. Just done cooling, big brakes, tires, suspension, steering, big clutch, etc. When it's done it'll be so far from stock it wouldn't have mattered whether I started with a C5 or a C6, everything better about the C6 would have needed to be replaced anyway, so why spend the extra money for a stock C6 over a stock C5. Only thing left stock will be the body and control arms, and that's the same between a 5 and a 6 from a performance perspective.
Got to respect the honesty in this dude.
Down to earth man fueled by a passion for racing. Have seen other Vinwiki spots with him very humble and hardworking man
$1,600/mile to RACE!
Not drive...
If ur driving it ur racing u not just cruising in that thing
If you enjoy something this much it’s the perfect time to have this fun. Pre family and kids. No one gets bit financially but the one person. I fully respect his decisions. I got into fast cars after the kids left home so at this point my fast car decisions are far more conservative but good enough for me.
Living in Oklahoma I can tell you the car scene here is real awesome to see a story come from someone who drives the same streets I do
Loving seeing the boys from D3/prospeed finally making it on this channel! great video
Amen! Chris Delgado, Zach, Dave… HUGE KUDOS!!
As long as I've been with this channel I've once thought of having the street outlaws guys on the channel. can we get a farm truck story?
Any time Lambos lose, especially to Vipers is a great day.
If you spent $1,600/mile just to beat a Lambo did the Lambo really lose in the end?
@@gcutler15 yes because the Lambo owner spent a whole lot more and still lost.
@@snakebitten6967 A lambo lease is roughly 3k/mo vs driving two miles in a crappler product...you do the math.
@@gcutler15 what are you talking about? No one is talking about ownership of each car stock.
Go do your homework on the money it takes to own and upkeep one of those TT lambos and you will see it ain’t cheap. Those guys spend way over the cost of the Lambo to be competitive. Your bias has your head screwed up.
That is some impressive cost of ownership!
Impressively stupid
Awesome story bro, Im just about to pull the trigger on a gen 1 Viper and Im super excited. Thanks for sharing your story, I lived in my surf van for a year and a half to save for the Viper. I cut all the fun out of my life to make this happen. Thank you.
Great story. You focused on doing what you loved and that is awesome. Thanks for sharing and have a great day.
From Experience Unless you have Unlimited Funds
Do as much as you can yourself.
Shops will drain you of every single dollar you have while putting little to no effort in it. Once it blows, they’re draining you again to fix their mess.
Have enough funds to do it right the first time and enjoy it or don’t do it at all. It will drain you of the passion you once had for it.
You’ll meet great people but you’ll also meet very shady people.
This is a great story. There's no replacement for... No. Not displacement, but Hard work!
Unless it's a turbine... BURLY RACING, Idaho...
That's a lot of yard mowing. The man mowing my yard decided he wanted double what he originally charged me 5 years ago and I decided to shop his price. Now I'm glad I did.
Now that is dedication and desire. Mad props to you bud.
DISCLAIMER: I mean no disrespect to Andy and do appreciate his story. I respect his hard work and am happy for him that he got his lambo-hunter.
To viewers of this video -- especially those in their teens and 20s -- please don't spend money like this on your car/s. Specifically, going into credit card debt to fuel this type of passion is playing with fire.
It's fine if you want to work hard and make a ton of money. It's fine if you want to buy and enjoy cool cars. You can totally still do that, but please don't put yourself into a bunch of debt "chasing the dragon". As Andy said, "you get acclimated to it." You'll keep digging the hole deeper trying to push things further.
Sure, you might die tomorrow. But what if you don't?
Not bad advice at all lol
Perfect explanation at the end. I respect it
Facts, it's just like those people who are like "WHY YOU SHOULD BUY THIS 20 YEAR OLD PRODUCT IN 2022" Why? Cause you wanna inflate the price to all hell and have people waste their money? 🤣(Crown Vics a few years ago😶)
Hi-ya @@andynelson9225! Thank you for coming to sit down in the Big Chair and being candid and upfront about your passion for cars and racing. You work hard for what you've achieved so far, and you have paid some dues for certain. Never look back with remorse, What's done is done, #NoRegrets #The405 #Legend
I may only have about 10k in cash, but I don't owe anyone, any bank, or any company a single dime. With exception of maybe 5 people over 4+ decades I have never met anyone who was rich. Just in debt. Severely in debt. Keeping up with the Jones'.
Being from OKC I'm just picturing Andy hanging out on 39th st racing tuned Hondas in his C5 🤣
I know the Airport Manager to the Caddo Mills Race that you did with I assume TSS.
I lived in Yukon for a while and I wish I could have seen you out there
Ed get Cleetus on here to tell some stories you filmed at the freedom factory now he needs to be on here.
Refinancing a car this many times? I know the saying is don’t buy it if you can’t buy it twice but it’s not literal😭😭😭😭
speed is always a function of money. should never be that proud of the "accomplishment"
Taste is priceless.
When he said “great success” I swore I was gunna see a burst clip next
“ I don’t miss it, but I look back fondly on those memories.“ what a beautiful way to remember your past.🥲
As someone who lives in OKC, it’s cool to hear this story. I know every place he’s talking about. Including the infamous sonic meetup.
The cost of 410 Sprint Car racing is even more insane. 50k+ for engine that needs rebuilt 15-20k every 5-10 races. That's the just tip of the iceberg
Don Ott engine cost is no joke 360 or 410s
this dude wasn't dedicated to anything but writing a check.
There is a great feeling of joy, knowing that someone hate you for been better
Weird flex.
Yeah fr
But ok.
Its cool to know that Farmtruck used to be the fastest and AZN was there early too
Cool story. The Viper and Vette are both awesome cars
It’s weird to me how this guy mentions people who’ve inspired his builds and helped him with his builds, but doesn’t shout them out or mention them by name.
I did actually, got edited out. Can’t get everything in there or it’d be an hour long lol
@@andynelson9225 I had clicked to write that but you beat me to it.
What watch is he wearing?
Texas invitational was a great event
I remember drooling over this car back then
That yahoo cover page was my video
I got eliminated really early and had time to walk and enjoy the event 😂
andy nelson is one of the most legit street racers ive ever met....Everything he said is 10000% true. I cant remember andy ever truly losing a race. He always stayed 100% true to what he loves and never let anything else bate him in. I learned alot from andy in many ways. Im grateful to have been witness thruout the time that he was the King of the street in okc
Uncle Rico Vibes
Haha
This guy definitely does not watch Dave Ramsey
There’s just 100 life lessons in this great story
One of the best videos.
I’m confused how did he mess up going 1st to 3rd in an auto?
Manual valve body you can go straight from 1st to 3rd with the shifter in the car if you're too hard on it. It's all a straight throw
@A shifter only move forward and backwards there are no lockouts between gears. 1 to 2 shift is just a forward push, 2 to 3 is the same forward push. If you're too hard going for 2nd you will complete a 2-3 shift also.
@A that is exactly what it is. If you don't shift it doesn't change gear. Conversely when you shift it to a gear that's what gear it goes in regardless of any other factor. You can actually damage the transmission if you do things wrong. You even have to downshift (gently) back to first if you're coming to a stop.
One of the Oklahoma legends
Can anyone tell me what watch Andy is wearing in this and his other videos?
Tree Hut. Gift from the Mrs.
That dude is Ed jnr rite down to the shirt lol
New time. Kids now will learn how to squeeze every Amp out of their electric engines.
I used to love doing the same thing but with a 74 F-100 4x4 with a 428 punched and built that was a lot of fun when you could buy good pump gas.
Best way to make a small fortune in racing?
Start with a big fortune.
Realistically, don't do what Andy did, especially if you're not doing almost all of the work yourself.
Loved watching him through the years... But Dave Ramsey would have an aneurysm!
Lol, I have ZERO regrets. Doing just fine today:)
@@andynelson9225 I imagine that's true for you. That doesn't make it a good example for every 16 year old who loves cars. You and I likely know some of the same people (and certainly know the same people through 1 degree of separation) who lived a very similar existence and it didn't work out so swimmingly.
Dave Ramsey leads a very boring life and just got extremely lucky in real estate twice. His advice on eliminating debt as quickly as possible or never getting into debt at all outside of a mortgage is valuable advice but he's just a talking head otherwise.
@@BourbonInhibitions I'd argue his complete dismissal of ever taking debt massively oversimplifies things, but is safe advice for those without the attention span or self control to handle otherwise. With that said, it's likely good advice when applied to spending 500 grand on car mods!!
My brother in law is a backyard no schooled mechanic. Every car he has built embarrasses most cars that guys have spent 200 thou on. It makes them so mad. Right now i have a 33 chevy coupe that he built. Puts 850 to wheel with nitrous. Does wheelies beats most of the cars in town and a blast to drive with the 18.5 wide street slicks on the back
Holy shit. 18.5? Does he have a channel I can sub to?
@@Yohane350 yes they r a 33 tall by 18.5 wide. Mickey Thompson ET STREETS. No he has no channel
I just moved to okc. Can anyone recommend some groups to check out here. Much thanks!
Money is what it takes to succeed in any top level profession. Or I'd think everyone be doing it ? ,✌️
This dude compared a lawn mower engine to a Viper motor??? Bro, that's a daddy's money mentality to the T!!!
I’m thinking you missed what he said. He said because he was only used to lawn mower engines, he didn’t trust himself to work on a viper engine.
^^^^what he said… and… after working 80 hours in the heat, I DID NOT want to work on anything else. If you can’t understand that…
ya know the first video I saw of this guy I thought he was cool and kinda believed his story but this vids got some red flags lol coupled with the fact that he's in alot of these comments defending himself .. Daddy's money mentality for sure
$740/mo for $28k car is insane.
nice to have a mom with money :)
That's like what 400 bucks a race on a quarter mile?
Like the character from Tokyo Drift but in real life haha
Lmao I knew he reminded me of someone from F&F
I've seen this guy locally in his 720S. I was in my what I think is fast Mustang but had to nope out.
Just heard 👂, one of the nicest 👌 Vipers is for sale, call Casey at Genius Garage 😀
Anyone here got a stock first gen? It’s my new “aspiration” car now that I have my w12 Audi A8l as my daily and would love to pick an owners brain.
That was Dr Roof's old Viper, it was indeed a 7 second car back in the day when it was red. It was an animal before it was sold
ua-cam.com/video/MWODPbkSjls/v-deo.html
So sick to see him talk about it, been a fan of this car through the years.
Spent $500,000 to drive a car 5 miles per year.
Nobody ever died with fond memories of their 401k
The next car movie will be titled, "The Lambo Hunter."
BUT… Did he get both tickets or none?
I thought this was the MCRippin story
Mimicked someone from the Northeast with a high HP Corvette built in the early 2000s. Hmm, could that be Rob's Corvette?
East coast supercharging…
Viper ftw
Why don't you give me both.
dude is crazy
Nice 2 be you... but that's an expensive habit u have. U make it work tho. Good job!
Gives a new meaning to “Living life a 1/4 mile at a time!”
You want a speeding ticket or a reckless driving ticket? "I literally said why don't you give me both." FUCK YES That's how I roll. Like the dude from Breakfast club who is getting chewed by the principle and principle says "You just earned another Saturday detention. Would you like another?" Badass says "Yes!" That stuck with me for life. I love Andy's stories and his pursuits. If you really want something then you get it by any means possible.
A tuned hellcat is enough to gap huracans
I respect this guy's dedication/hardwork but this guy is a clear example of what/how things should NOT be done.
Reinvest in your business to grow it so after a while your presence in day-to-day operations is no longer needed and you can spend your time + money on other activities to keep yourself living. And further than that invest in other industries and expand, once you get one strong income source branching out to further incomes is much easier. Easy 6-7 figures a month.
Regardless, beating Chief/Farmtruck/Daddy Dave from Street Outlaws and Kevin from UGR is an accomplishment I have to say. 👏👏
This is good business advice, but Andy has done that. His business has probably 10X’d since the Viper days, and he owns a full portfolio of real estate. He’s doing it right.
@@lthomas6760 Good to hear that. So he might have some TT lambos RN
Thats a small hard tire on that vette....
Ran 18” drag radials
Vs a 29 10.5? In the 8th on the street?
We raced 1/4mi back then. And not many options in 2003
wait, the description is "tongue-in-cheek," right?
*_cut grass to raise money to build a $100k Corvette & a $500k Viper_* my ass
It’s not Nelson Landscaping for no reason..
Nope this guy has a very large landscaping company. He started out mowing lawns during school
@@johncena-hq1ti Ahh, thank you for actually answering, instead of sarcasm lol. I've never heard of him, so did not know he owned his own landscaping company. Pretty cool!
VIPER!!!!!! 😍🤤
I still mow grass & full time job w a Jaguar S Type R Ha Ha 🤬
missed 2nd gear in a 1k+hp hotrod....yea ima say bullshit on the side of epicness. did he install a shifter from some minivan? or a gated or ratchet shifter? cuz thats why those exist in the 1st place.
Went straight from 1st to 3rd… yes. Easy to do with the shifter I had unfortunately
@@andynelson9225 It's not uncommon, unfortunately and has caused more than a few racers to lose and in some cases, I believe, broke something.
I thought this kind of stupidity only existed in the fast and furious franchise. Seems I was mistaken.
How tf u go from first to third BY accident?
Nerves. And the shifter that was on the car
1/5, would not roadtrip
He beats one UGR car on their old platform and is happy? Pays someone to keep it running because it wasn’t reliable and says he is hunting lambos. 😂😂 I’ve seen this car thanks to 1320 video and every blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while
Beat several. Huracans weren’t out back then, boss
thats why you need to take time and learn about finances, learn to invest and have the investments pay for your hobby....not working everyday for it
100%
The price this guy is quoting is just fantasy.
How does one make $1000 a day mowing grass?
yeah somethings not adding up lol
Ez. Run 3-4 trucks and mow 30 yards a day. I did it as a teen. The insurance and taxes will eat u alive though.
Some other guys built that car to Lambo hunt.
Haha Andy you lived at University Apartments next to UCO?
Is that piece of shit still there? The owners were such assholess.
So he could’ve just bought a new huracan and twin turbo-d it for less money lol😂
sure you could have bought an aventador and half with all that money but then you would've just been another guy with a lambo, not that inspiring, this life path is much more interesting and a mech greater flex
I'm glad he is enjoying his hobby ..but good lord! He's throwing his future away.. can you imagine what all that money invested in something like real estate could produce...he'd be a millionaire by now...seriously...Then he could afford to do expensive car hobbies...trust me...I'm almost 61 and when you get to be in this age range or even younger you are not going to be wanting to work as hard as you did when you were 20...and I've been a car guy since I was 14 so I get the passion thing...but guys..be smart about it. Please!
Life is going ok:)
When he looks back on his life he'll have a lot to smile about. That's what matters as long as you don't financially ruin yourself, which he didn't.
Ahh come on. He is enjoying himself and a lot of people with piles of money are not necessarily happy. He seems like a motivated individual I’m sure he will have plenty of opportunities to make money.
Jesus, this looks interesting. Thank you!
If kids get in the way of cars, you're doing it wrong. Cars over kids any day.
You mentioned being at a stop light and the guy beside you has his girlfriend with him. As much as I would like to go against you, I wouldn’t do it. I never take a passenger with me in a drag race. If I mess up, I will be the only person in my car.. if I live or die, I’m the only person who pays. If your car is beside me, I will do my best to avoid hitting you. Just keep the pedal to the metal and keep going.
Thanks for saying that
I am with on the only person to pay
And my little 9 sec 1/8 mile bug is not even that fast just would hate it for someone else to get hurt
As for the other guys car he has chosen to accept the same risk as me
HOPE FOR THE BEST AND HOLD ON you just never know what is going to happen
I guess I should get a credit card to turbo my car.
Thanks for the story, damn you're a dude, Rj in Oz
