How do you guys come up with the rms ratings? Are they purposely reduced to protect against warranty claims? Or does the subwoofer reach its xmax at near or bellow the 750w of power therefore any more is just heat and mechanical over excursion?
Good lord times have changed. Last "serious" system I built myself was laughably back in the mid 90s. MTX Thunder 2300 pushing 2 MTX Road Thunder 12s (the good made in USA ones with rubber surronds). I managed 140.3dB at the windshield, 35 Hz steady tone in a 94 Sundance. Those subs have been doing home theater subwoofer duty behind a Crown DC-300A Series II since 2005 and they are still going strong. They'll knock remote controls off the coffee table on the floor above. I'm starting to get back into the car audio stuff, but I feel like an old geezer that will never catch up to where we are now.
Mopar Stephen I know the feeling. I was a crazy bass addicted teenager back in the 90’s . Now I’m pushing 40 running 2-18” SKar audio subs using old school Phoenix Gold amps to run them .
Where we are now is lots of rms but Korean or chinese or brazilian companies mostly concerned with spl. The mid 90s was the golden era of u.s. made sound quality equipment. Youre lucky because i couldnt afford it back then.
@@wadehensley5005 Mtx was just as good or better than Fosgate back then. Those old amps still fetch a pretty penny on ebay. Pop some new capacitors in em and theyre as good as new.
This is why most low Rated subs can handle high power via Burps but i see 1500watts or less being the max Rms of the sub the 15 inch sub i am running right now has been tested with 10-15k burps and ran 160's but i definetly wont be doing that RMS power but still
@@UnofficialAudio My bad. Watched the video all the way through again and still only caught it once. 57hz. My ADD must be swinging with full force today. Lol. Super impressive. Had a sa12 in my daily for a few years. Beat the crap out of it and was never hot. Never had any problems with it. Thanks for the videos man. Keep up the good work.
High wattage Short Burps doesn't say alot, yes that's high wattage and the suspension must be stout but what about the 2.5" coil...? What did it look like after that? Parker put like 5000 to an E12 and a true 1000w amp may fry it fairly fast? Having a 750w rating I wonder how much its "conservativly rated" as so many people say Sundowns, are and how much power it would take playing music for extended times. My pioneer amp dynoed at 1200w certified and 1760w dynamic (can't remember the uncertified maby 1250/13ish) so would that amount clean non clipped power but heavy use fry an SA? I burned the coil on a NVX VSW15 it gave me about 20 sec warning an crackle but my old 1000w VCW15 takes it no problem it never get even warm after heavy use but I want another GM9701 gain matched for a 2nd sub and NVX has ZERO in stock from covid19, I LOVE my NVX but I don't wanna wait till whenever/forever any suggestions??
I'd love to see how the coil looks after an 18kw burp, I'm impressed. If these take 18kw burps, what the heck would a Zv5 take. I had 4k on mine on the daily, not clamped of course, assuming yours is, that's fucking impressive, I'll say it again, these things are immaculate.
Am I the only one wondering how this sub can even handle this much power? 18k to a 750 rms sub is just mind boggling. How does the coil not burn even with burps?
Wonder how many DB the other models would do off of 1000 Watts. And how many watts it takes just for them to reach the same DB these cheaper subs do. These subs with the weird really fat surround eat up cone area. The cone is what makes sound. Like the surround on the SA models much better.
When determining the effective cone area of a subwoofer it's common practice to use the half surround method. Basically the inner half of the surround is also moving in/out with the cone and displacing air so it counts as effective cone area. When you take that into consideration then the cone area of the mega roll fitted subwoofers isn't bad at all.
Lol, I know all I want to ever know about Orion. I'm don't even run Sundown, but this is impressive no matter how you want to look at it. If you want to get technical about "doubling everything", this SA-18 not only "doubled" it's RMS, but went 17 x's over it's RMS rating... Let's see "Orion (correct spelling btw)" take 17 x's it's rated power. The other impressive thing about this video is seeing these two 7500's putting out almost 19K clamped at 14v...
I have a NSV 3 prototype that I needs a rebuild and I don’t want to send it to pink star how can I get it to y’all it’s a special sub and I want to keep that way help me guys
I know my friend told me to not believe anything on the internet so this to me is extremely unreal he just ran 5000 Watts Plus through a 750 watt 18 inch sub
Stop saying to bring back old models, with that mentality we wouldn’t have the neos or the carbon fiber cones. I love old school audio but modern amps are insane and equally reliable if you buy quality. I’m running sundown in both my trucks and I’ve been abusing them daily with zero issues and overpowered
Great video

Burp frequency is said multiple times in the video.

2-7500's wired to .5 each=wow!! 18,000watts!?!? 3000 above rated. 12v 14v or 16v?
This amplifier is rated at 1 ohms, obviously it'll do more at .5

Reactive load was 1.15 per amp. I didn't see what voltage drop was exactly but it should have held close to 14v.
A 2.5” coil is too small for an 18”. The updated versions should be 4”
