I was watching the rain-sensing wipers the whole time and I was amazed how precisely, perfectly it is working ALL the time. It's incredible. Gotta' love German engineering. Thanks for uploading!
I bought a 2008 S320 L with 50k on the clock for Christmas, used by a Japanese firm down London to ferry the CEO around, absolute stunner of a machine for Christmas, she gets very strange looks.
@IvyLeagueCars Modern diesels start pre-heating the combustion chamber the moment you unlock the car. So when you entered and have buckled up, you can start the engine immediately. Only when it's very cold (way into freezing), you might have to wait 2 or 3 seconds. In general diesels need to be warmed up carefully, though. Don't rev them higher than 2000 rpm. until they have reached the optimum temperature.
The BlueTec badge was introduced in 2012, replacing BlueEffiency. It's basically BlueEffiency but with revised to improve performance, mpg and emissions.
Both cars are very good and have no weakness you can put in numbers or objectivity. The thing is, though, that from a subjective point of view, the S-Class feels very special to drive, while the 7-series just feels like a magnified 5-series.
Good video. I really enjoyed it, Quick note though. the person at 3:58 gave plenty of indication (5 entire seconds infact ) that they wanted to get into your lane and you did not think to slow down and let them in. In fact you flail your arms in discontent when they merge as though you were taken off guard by the event. you should be more vigilant in future.
@Laserfrankie finally, someone with a taste for quiet driving. awesome video. very relaxing, especially when you are working 12 hours in front of your pc and you just want to escape for a minute. thank you for sharing this. oh, and 4:01 made me smile - I hate idiots too ;)
This is the best looking Mercedes ever produced in my opinion, i can't wait for it to drop in price and maybe in the future i can pick up a 2009 model.
Some people are not interested in how the tester has a fun day doing powerslides to the cost of the manufacturer; instead, they are interested to know what it is like to actually drive the car. There are even car magazines doing their reviews like that only, precisely for this reason (e.g. Winding Road).
@Laserfrankie One other question, you know with diesel trucks how you have to wait a couple minutes before you start it? While the glow plugs are lighting up? Does this car have to do that or can you just start it right up when its cold?
@@R3KTM8KR Most will probaly look away and buy a car with regular suspenssion that last longer and is simple, but then again you buy a Mercedes if you can afford one. There is no such thing as a cheap Mercedes.
lol, the wipers at the end. Btw, did you buy in before stop-start or did you find a way to disable it? because i noticed your engine never cut out when stopped.

@IvyLeagueCars It doesn't have the insane power of the petrol V8 but it is more than enough to be quick on the road. The keyword here is torque. You have lots of power at low revs to your disposal and in daily driving that is all that makes difference. I have no idea, if you get the same diesel version as here. Mercedes offers different versions of their 3.0 liter diesel, ranging from 231 to 265 HP.
please make more videos with s class and be careful how you place the camera. Mercedes S350 BlueTec driven through town in the rain has the best view. make it long too. Thankyou.
Funny. I came across similar comments recently. So what would a classy turn signal sound like? I have heard a million MB signals and I never thought anything about it.
@pobaslo Firstly that's the first time I hear something like that. Maybe it was so in the 1970's. Seondly, that was a wet cobblestone road with almost no grip at all.
That one lane road looks like the one you find the dumped murder victims...what country do you live in? Great video. I just read where the 350 bluetec is coming here (US) this year..I still drive a w123 diesel. awesome cars!
windshield gets foggy in rain? and i want your pinion wich is mor confrtable and a bater build feel the bmw 7 series or the s class merc? and thanks for the nice vids
4:00 At least he used his turn signal. I was almost run off the road today by someone who wanted my lane, but didn't even wait for me to get out of it. Needless to say, they didn't use their signal.
@TheSanderPander I thought I was being polite there. Could have cursed or honked, you know... In general I have something against people cutting me off in the rain, especially when they force me to brake.
How powerful did this diesel feel? I am wondering if this S350 is the same one Benz just released here in the US for 2012. Not sure if I should go S550 (the 4.7tt v8) or with the S350. I am worried I may miss the V8 power, but the efficiency and cleanness of the diesel is great.
@joegolden481 It's in Germany. You can definitely check his other videos cruising this Bluetec W221 on the Autobahn at top speed . Props to you for driving a W123 Diesel btw. We need more Merc diesel in the States indeed!

Mercedes has no wiper arms. It's a function also located on the indicator stalk.
I've driven both this model (W221) and the previous version (W220) and it's definitely the camera magnifying the road noise

From what I know they are very good cars compared to other S class.
If you replace the all air struts. The struts are usually no problem before next additional 100,000km and feels like floating.
