She is legendary, she definitely inherited a LOT of her mother`s talent, both as an actress and a singer. Cabaret is her biggest success probably but she has had a wonderful career and her mother was and would have been proud had she lived to see Liza`s career successes.
Thank you for this, Saeed! One thing Liza got from her mom, even more than her voice, was her ability to perform for an audience. Both Judy and Liza, once they were on stage, always dialed up the performance energy to the max. As you said, the energy really comes through.
She was one hell of a performer.
Wish you had the rest of this show where all three legends probably sang together.
I love Liza!! Definitely one of the greatest singers ever. Great dancer also. You need to check out New York New York and Cabaret. Magnificent performances. I really enjoyed this, sooooo good.
From the legendary “Rat Pack Tour” they did in the late 80’s. Pure gold! 🎶🌟
You have to listen the entire song, in the “New York, New York” movie soundtrack. 😉
Will do!
More Liza. See her in the movie Cabaret Saeed. She could dance sing and act
Judy Garland would be so proud of her. Her dad was an amazing Director (Minelli last name also) try some Sammy Davis Jr also. Yes, the rat pack, ( Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr) Sammy was like a Swiss army knife of skillset. Add his
Autobiography to your book list. Rough rough upbringing . And turned out amazing.
Liza called Frank Sinatra Uncle Frank. He was a lifelong family friend.
Every gesture she makes Judy used!!! Somebody schooled somebody here!!!
Seriously..why, oh why do we not see singers like this anymore..the Barbra's, Judy's, Liza's..people who could just get up on a stage with a basic mic and freakin' SING! And more than that..have fun with a song. Nowadays you only see this in classical music still.
She a first class professional
👍
The Rat Pack to which you referred consisted of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis, Jr., Joey Bishop, and Peter Lawford starting in the late-'50s and continuing through the '60s. Marilyn Monroe, Angie Dickinson, Juliet Prowse, Buddy Greco, and Shirley MacLaine were often referred to as the "Rat Pack Mascots." Comedian Don Rickles wrote that "I never received an official membership card but Frank made me feel part of the fun."
An earlier group of stars led by Humphrey Bogart in the late '40s until his death in 1957 was the original Rat Pack. The group of A-list show business friends, such as Errol Flynn, Ava Gardner, Nat King Cole, Robert Mitchum, Elizabeth Taylor, Janet Leigh, Tony Curtis, Mickey Rooney, Judy Garland, Frank Sinatra, Lena Horne, Jerry Lewis, Cesar Romero, and others, met casually at the Holmby Hills home of Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall.
According to Stephen Bogart, the original members of the Holmby Hills Rat Pack were Frank Sinatra (pack master), Judy Garland (first vice-president), Sid Luft (cage master), Bogart (rat in charge of public relations), Swifty Lazar (recording secretary and treasurer), Nathaniel Benchley (historian), David Niven, Katharine Hepburn, Spencer Tracy, George Cukor, Cary Grant, Rex Harrison, and Jimmy Van Heusen. The Rat Pack group underwent several transformations. The publicly best-known transformation happened under the leadership of Frank Sinatra in the late '50s.
After Bogart's death in 1957, Frank Sinatra and Lauren Bacall became engaged and planned a marriage. Frank Sinatra became the Rat Pack leader from 1957 on. By the end of the 1950s, the Rat Pack evolved into an informal production group whose members united their star power to support each other's careers.
In 1958, three Rat Pack members, Sinatra, Martin, and Shirley MacLaine starred in "Some Came Running" that was popular with the public. At the same time in 1958, a story about a series of Las Vegas casino robberies circulated among entertainers, so Peter Lawford bought the rights and Frank Sinatra became interested in the idea. Several members of the Rat Pack who were regulars in Vegas, were naturally fit to lead the cast of characters in the upcoming production, including Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Peter Lawford, and Joey Bishop, and also Angie Dickinson, Cesar Romero, and Shirley MacLaine. A variety of writers worked on the project, titled "Ocean's 11."
According to one version of the origin story of the name "Rat Pack," Lauren Bacall saw her husband Humphrey Bogart and his friends returning from a night in Las Vegas and said, "You look like a goddamn rat pack."
Hi Saeed! The Rat Pack also included Dean Martin, Joey Bishop and Peter Lawford. You're a film buff. Did you see the 1972 film "Cabaret"? Liza Minelli won an Academy Award for her performance. It had an amazing soundtrack. This video was awesome!
Thanks for letting me know!
I am familiar with the film, the cast and it's accolades, but haven't seen it.
Thanks for watching!
@@SaeedReacts. You must see the film, Saeed. It's not only extremely well done, but it is a serious warning to us in today's world. (A warning that is not being heeded in some places, sadly.)
You should check out her performances in the film Cabaret. Bob Fosse worked her hard but the live performance was insanely amazing.
Will look up the film!
@@SaeedReacts. It's fantastic, important, and full of great Kander & Ebb music.
Not forgetting of course that this performance won her the Academy Award.
I was there that night in Detroit - at the newly renovated Fox Theater. Greats being great. In the Motor City. Thank you Lord!
That is awesome!
This song was written for Liza for the film "New York, New York" which of course it is also the title of the show-stopping song towards the end of the film. The film was not all that well received at the time, but I think it's terrific, as Scorsese used the conventions of both an old time Hollywood romance movie with those exploring the behind the scenes view of the traditional musical biopic to disect a marriage between two characters who are drawn together by their music yet that same music eventually drives them apart. At heart it's quite a jaundiced view but really powerful, if a little long, and who can ignore a Scorsese, Minelli and De Niro movie?
"Mein Herr" from her film Cabaret
Thanks Scott. I knew someone would help to get Saeed to hear Liza Minelli!! More please!! And Sammy Davis rabbit hole too!!
Great performance! Looking forward to discover more of these legends.
Maybe this time...
Never a particularly great talent in any one field, but with the right material was able to pull it off. I guess you could say Liza eventually reached "iconic" status, but it was really by association.
Love Liza. Not a Sinatra fan tho
liza replace dean martin during this tour
