Saying this is costing the county millions a year is disingenuous. It costs them nothing. The fact that this county won't sieze the land and are instead letting fees stack up is ridiculous. If they were smart they would start seizing the land and be done with it. They are generating a net loss in revenue due to incompetence. Typical government.
I was coming here to say the same thing, they should have seized the properties 40 years ago for unpaid taxes...but they don't want to own the land either.
Someone should think about the real bad guys in this scheme, the county planning department who approved these subdivisions and all the county agencies that processed the maps --they were motivated by the large fees from the developers that the land owner paid them. The expected revenue from property taxes must have been too much to resist. Approving and recording these subdivisions without any conditions such as improving the land, building roads, water, septic,...etc was a crime against humanity motivated by greed.
yes and no, their job is not to picks winners and losers, that being said, in Arizona subdivision development is highly regulated with developers being required to identify a 100 years worth of water supply, and identify all utility lines from the lot lines, so a buyer can quickly determine the utilities and water supply situation. As a sub-issue, foreigners should not be allowed to buy American land. It adds to the overhead costs of trying to communicate with them and follow up, even for legal procedures and foreclosure. Besides, it is not reciprocal. An American expat in their country is forbidden from buying a home or land -- all across Asia. No country allows that. Over a million communist Chinese have a U.S. green card and have bought up millions of properties, especially in California. An American is forbidden from buying a home in China, Taiwan, Japan, Thailand, Philippines. Congress must stop this one-way exploitation. We had a huge land fraud problem in Arizona during much of the 1970s until it got shut down. The perpetrators either got prison but some ended up dead as it became a big criminal organization.
Yep, these people were scammed big time. The fact that a lot of tax property is owed on these useless properties makes me wonder why the property tax is not written off. Most of these owners can not be reached or have died and it makes no sense at all to send out monthly property tax bills. Many years ago a very sharp and old Government Accountant and Auditor told me, that outstanding old debt that can not be recovered must be written off. Apparently it raises to many questions and the bad debt also has a negative impact on financial records.
This is about property taxes. Property taxes equate to the Government owns the land. Look up land patent... you actually own the land and pay no taxes. Who would think that the mainstream news media would create a story that was in favor of a slave tax. Property taxes are a way to kick poor people off their land when the can not pay. I think this all worked out well. The State should server the people, not steal from them.
Probable reason the county won't just take ownership of the land for delinquent taxes is that they can't then sell it for even half of what is "owed". Anyone who wanted to acquire any blocks of this land for whatever purpose would be on the hook for unpaid taxes.
So, if the state, and everyone else, says the land is worthless, and property taxes are based upon appraised value, how can any taxes be owed? Looks like a good place for a wind and solar farm.

Is there a reason why the counties involved can't just claim the properties for back taxes. Then they could look at amalgamating lots that are together and see if someone wants it as ranch land.
What's the real reason why they cant build there? Even a temporary place, camp ground, off grid cabin. They can generate power with solar the can haul water in or dig a well and Install septic systems.
My mother in law bought two lots in this development in the 70s. We inherited these lots in 2012. We did try to find where these lots were located but the closest actual dirt road was more than 5 miles from the lots. In order to locate them we had to get GPS location then take the polaris to the lots. Several arroyos later we finally decided it wasn't worth the trip to even see where the lots were located as a normal vehicle would never make it out that far. For us there was no reason to hold on to these lots. The county had no plans to develop the area or at least none they shared with us. We quick claimed the deed to a young man who was speculating that maybe in his life they might have some value. We doubted in our lifetime, say another 30 or so years if we are lucky, anything would happen with development.
The wells in lots of the southwest start at around $50,000 and up right now. I bought a lot in Deming, but there's a road and an electric pole on the corner of my property. I haven't moved there and built anything yet. It's also kinda developed since I'd have several neighbors. There's farms and a farmers market close. My closest neighbor is probably 4 lots away. Looks like a little ranch house on Google maps and pretty well kept. It's my little retirement fantasy. It's zoned for a single wide trailer. I may get a nice park model and make it easy. Sounds like I need water collection and storage and a septic. Which sounds like it should be easy too.
I have been paying taxes for a few years on some land there , the taxes remain very low , & when u build , barely go up much, if Its a modest (small) build.
The same thing as Rio Rancho. Worthless but now third largest city in NM, pop.110,000. But Rio Rancho is next to Albuquerque There is no reason to live in Rio del Oro, no jobs, small lots, no utilities. Off grid would be ideal with solar and a well.
So this is really just about NM not getting their tax money, it's not really about the people that got taken. The title should say the greed of NM wanting their tax money 💰
Given the age of the dude, he should have replied a 100 years, because he could kick off next year....this situation is not unique to New Mexico it's a Western situation, gullible back East folks get sucked into buying these lots with no knowledge where they are buying...
if u had any of the land out there i know what i would do . (1) build a water tower (2) dig a and lay pipes (3) build or place water evaporators and place time in toobs (4)solar panels and solar banks to charge and power water pumps .. all of the to suck water out of the cool night air and store it for latter . charge it ion the day run it at night . could also have it as a Water Reclamation device.. could also sell of silicon and Trace minerals . well that is some ideas i have .. would be cheaper my way than try and get money from dead people ?
I was living in Albuquerque for a time when that all took place initially. I remember it and thought at the time, who would fall for something like this? It's also kinda developed since I'd have several neighbors. There's farms and a farmers market close. My closest neighbor is probably 4 lots away. Looks like a little ranch house on Google maps and pretty well kept. It's my little retirement fantasy. It's zoned for a single wide trailer. I may get a nice park model and make it easy. Sounds like I need water collection and storage and a septic. Which sounds like it should be easy too.
I bought a lot in Deming today too.
I have been paying taxes for a few years on some land there , the taxes remain very low , & when u build , barely go up much, if Its a modest (small) build.
Fooling yourself. None of that is going to be easy. Especially not in Deming.
The same thing as Rio Rancho. Worthless but now third largest city in NM, pop.110,000. But Rio Rancho is next to Albuquerque There is no reason to live in Rio del Oro, no jobs, small lots, no utilities. Off grid would be ideal with solar and a well.
Perfect place for an earthship community.
So this is really just about NM not getting their tax money, it's not really about the people that got taken. The title should say the greed of NM wanting their tax money 💰
There’s a place like that in California in the Mojave desert called California City . . . ‘Nuff said.
Yeah; I thought of California City while I was watching this. Why the county wastes time and money to tax the properties is unbelievable.
That is not a picture of the Chama valley. It is a picture of the Rio Chama in Abiquiu, New Mexico. Even the news is lying
New Mexico politicians be scamming 🤣🤣
Given the age of the dude, he should have replied a 100 years, because he could kick off next year....this situation is not unique to New Mexico it's a Western situation, gullible back East folks get sucked into buying these lots with no knowledge where they are buying...
Property taxes on unimproved worthless land? The amount should be pocket change.
So much Mesa, so many bodies... NY Mafia wit sec area.
Buyer beware....
Simple as that...
and now we have satellite images..
and county parcel information
What happens to the state budget if the back taxes are written off?
Nothing, they already Don't have the money.
if u had any of the land out there i know what i would do .
Wow that's crazy how horribly sad..
I bought a parcel 2 years ago from here. My parcel has power at the lot line and a paved road out front. I am planning to retire on it.
I was living in Albuquerque for a time when that all took place initially. I remember it and thought at the time, who would fall for something like this? I guess with the false pics and all that, anybody could. Similar thing happened in So Cal with the land around the Salton Sea, but at least that really was a resort area once...now you can buy land there for pennies.
It wasn't back when that took place,,,, they just changed names of the company's it's still happening today!!!!
@@markh9981 Sorry, but I was there when that happened, friend.
@@themoviemaniac8416 sorry but I was a victim that was held hostage there, for 8 months and my sister and kids, they are dead now including my son and brother. I barely made it out alive. So don't try to even begin to explain it to me. And if you were there perhaps you were part of the scam, it wasn't just a Land scam, it was a full blown human organs trafficking operation being run illegally affiliation with the Dark web sites and the number 8 satanic cult, cowards responsible for the disappearance of hundreds of thousands of girls and people.
Whenever a government official uses the word unique...…… get ready for a load of BS
no one owes the government anything. the state can take the parcel and DONE.
The problem is older than the guy that collects the taxes. And he says it's not going to be fixed in his lifetime😕 shows how much the government tries😇 are tax dollars hard at work.
Hold your horses so the official public service representatives are saying the land is worthless and yet they're owed millions in taxes well that doesn't make any sense at all does it?
How can I buy some of these lots and do they. Ome with mineral and water rights?
Did they sale the London Bridge yet
Larry
Never asks right questions
Every con artist depends on the ignorance of their mark in order to succeed!
This is not news, happening forever!
The fact that the government is try to collect taxes on land fraud deals shows just how corrupt they are.
Why should these land owners pay taxes on property that does not benifit feom them mabey if state built roads and electric and water
What the heck are they taxing! There is nothing there to tax. Government sucks!
Deception on top of more Deception...
And, it continues!
This is not a scam this is not deliberate ripping off this is land sale this happens in every state in the entire country of the United States of America it is buyer beware do your own due diligence if you buy something based upon a picture and somebody's word and you have never been there to see it in person you are a full and deserve to be took advantage of these lots are perfect locations for off-grid building
They will be great for off grid. but if the back taxes are too high nobody's going to buy them, even if you give them away for free still owing the back taxes.
I can step out of my house and view Shiprock rock..... lol
I don’t live there. What is the problem? To far off the grid?
I don’t get it. Buying land is a big deal. Don’t people look at the land in person and do research about it before you buy it
They did this in California twice and Florida.
Why would you make people pay taxes on a land scam?
