As I am sure you all know, I really do love my 1976 Land Rover Series 3 88" but I think it is worth discussing - why is it that these vehicles get so far under your skin? Sure, there are many aspect which make it great to live with, but let's examine it in detail and see what we think...

I have a 1966 S2A 88” in the same color. They just ooozze character. The simplicity is a major attraction. Nothing that doesn’t absolutely need to be there.
Very cool about your family connection to the Landy.
I’ll have to check out the restoration videos.👍

The Limestone Landy club is a fairly small one haha. Thanks for watching!

Can't wait to get mine! I'm an 18 Year old college student, seeking my first car, and the LR Series III 88" seems perfect. Thanks for the overview of yours, Beautiful Job!

@@Driftdropdriveby My first SIII was an 1973 shorty. With a rag top they’re excellent fun in the sun. I drove it for years as my primary vehicle when I regrettably sold it in a fit of madness. Have a great time meeting and greeting the grinning masses.

I fully restored a 1978 Australian army SIII 109 rag top. When you go through that it’s a marriage for life and a sweet one at that.

    Great video,
Ive had a series 3 now for about 3/4 years. It ended up needing more work than expected when purchasing but like you say, they are nice and simple to work on.
I keep toying with selling but have never been able to bring myself to list it for sale. The main reason being regretting getting rid of it in the future.

Thanks for watching! Yes, they do come with ups and downs, but as you say, I’d really regret it if I moved mine on

Wow! I’ve just watched your painting and galvanising the landrover vdieo, and subscribed. I’ve also got a Morris minor and a landrover on the way. The Morris has been in the family from new, like your landrover. The landrover is my dads which he called today can have as he’s getting on a bit and barely uses it. It’s a 1966 S2a which I’m looking to paint 😂the Morris is being sold to make room.

Not trying to slag you off or anything, the opposite, but if I have any experience with farmers in NI, that’s gotta be 145k! Very cool how it’s not been opened though. Very tidy truck 👍

Haha, I know what you mean, but only as it’s been in the family from new that I trust the 45k

I do not know either why they get under your skin but they do there is just something about them and one day we will own one we have looked at quite a few but up to date we have seen a lot of rubbish but before I go from this world we will have one ,but at the moment we will put up with our freelanders but I love the capstan winch on the front of yours, thanks for the video

Fantastic that you have so much history with your landrover. I had a mayflower capstan winch on my series three station wagon ( a forerunner to the fairey winch) very capable winch which I used many times for recovery work and tree stump removal. Perhaps sounds odd, but I always liked the recessed fuel filler and door handles. I used to use Haynes manuals, but also picked up official landrover workshop manuals that sometimes come up on ebay. You may already know this, but if you have freewheeling hubs fitted, lock them up about once a week and go for a short drive help keep the hubs lubricated 😊

@DeanRatcliffe Thanks Dean, and thanks for watching. Those Mayflower winches are lovely too!

Excellent tip on the freewheeling hubs. I was fortunate to recently find official Land Rover reprint parts catalogue and the workshop manual for my S2A. The Haynes manual is OK but leaves a lot to be desired. I got the new books from Amazon. They print them to order. Glad to have the information! I also got the operators manual. I have the original owners manual (1966) but is full of black mold!😱🤢
I’m trying to find the original sales brochure for 1966.
I can’t stress the parts Manuel enough. Many of the numbers are still valid or can be cross referenced, and the illustrations are invaluable!

I like Smith and Allan oils. EP90 for all the transmission stuff then 20W50 for the engine

What tyer size are you running? Im trying to find some radials thatll fit the rims and are correct height for the 88” speedo 😂

    • @restosaga
      @restosaga  2 місяці тому +1

I must say I never worried too much about the speedo but I’m on 235/85 R16 after a lot of thought and research into the best looking tyre ratio. I like the arches filled!
