    I live in a country where the weather is very hot and there are many hours of sunlight so I do not worry that much about the soil. I use perlite and pumice and that´is all. If I water today in two days the soil will be completely dry again. Thank you very much for your advices. Your plants are gorgeous.

      4- you can check drainage by putting the soil in a pot, pouring water in the soil and see how much comes out of the bottom. And, yes, cacti and succulents can be potted in the same soil. They live in nearby the exact same climates.

    This video is incredibly insightful and will save the audience months, if not years, of experiments to acquire the knowledge to successfully keep succulents.
    Please do yourself a favor and watch it with SUBTITLES (turn captions on).
    One thing I could add: if the grower live in a humid area, instead of clay or glazed pots, you could try grow succulents in steel baskets lined with coco coir sheets. This would allow even more air flow to the root area and complete drainage after heavy showers (using the suggested soil mix in the video, lower the percentage of organic soil materials the higher the humidity).

      Coco peat is inert in nutrition but has as good water retention as peat moss and more sustainable and eco-friendly. If you decide to grow with coco peat, mix with vermi compost (worm casting) or organic compost.

      Is that useful? 🥰

    • @ThaoNguyen-hl6mb
      @ThaoNguyen-hl6mb Рік тому

      It really depends on what the plants die to. If it's root rot, fungal diseases, pests (thrips, etc), then I agree that the soil should be discarded or add to the compost pile to "cook" it. If the plant is perfectly fine and you just need to transplant it to a bigger pot, reuse the oil soil mix will help reduce the transplant shock. Luckily, succulents are very resilient, but if you care for multiple different species, this is a good tip. The second point would be succulent soil mix, which has a very high percentage of inorganic amendments (perlite, pumice, vermiculite, fertilizer, sand, etc), is a poor host for pathogens, and very expensive to replace. You can wash the dirt off them and use steam, bake, or sun bake method to sterilize.
