There won't. SDAs are very selective over whom they will debate in a public domain, hence why there's only been a few of these large-scale, televised broadcasts involving an SDA and a Christian.
We were so blessed to have a man like Walter Martin standing for sound Biblical doctrine. It is also sad that, in my opinion, as of 2020 none like him are to be found. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong.
Mainstream Christianity has become more politically correct (especially over the past decade, but the left-wing views slowly started gaining momentum and infiltrated churches in the decade after Walter Martin died), and rarely speak publicly on issues such as women's ordination, LGBT movement etc. as they're more interested in seeing their bank accounts increase in exchange for compromising Biblical truth.
David Cloud and Paul Washer come to mind. Most small independent Baptist churches or other small churches are filled with the spirit. I steer clear of mega churches, evangelical churches and non denominational churches. But you're right for the most part.
After watching all 5 parts of this magnificent program, it shows that Christians need to be studied up on their bibles. These are just regular men but they know their bible and it helps and prevents people from falling for false teachers and false prophets. Johnson continues through the whole debate the same talking points on Adventist Doctrine. But the Doctrine does not hold up to the main question of Ellen Whites position of authority. He will not say that Ellen White is NOT the infallible interpretation of scripture. Why?

Paul and all early church (including Israel historically) did the same RE: woman in the church - yet it was always understood God raised up woman prophets, such as Deborah. The full weight of scripture must be considered and harmonised to understand the righteous exceptions to general rules.

@@clarkent61 As I've mentioned to you in another thread, it's because of this particular 1985 debate on the John Ankerberg Show that SDAs have become very cautious over who they debate in the public domain. They're very picky/selective and will not take on someone one-on-one who is familiar with SDA prooftexts, or someone like Walter Martin who they suspect knows a bit too much about the skeletons in the closet because of fear of being exposed. Johnsson was completely caught off guard and wasn't expecting that Martin had done a lot of research into SDA history (that most SDAs aren't aware of) and brought up issues such as plagiarism, Deuteronomy 18:20-22, Arian history etc. The only other 2 main televised debates involving an SDA and non-SDA in recent years that generated a lot of publicity within both SDA and Christian circles: - Steve Gregg and Doug Batchelor on the topic of the Sabbath in 2018 - Victor Hulbert and Doug Harris around 2012. I would've added Elce Lauriston and Ian Boyne on Jamaican TV in 2016/17 to that list, but Elce had officially renounced his faith in Adventism (i.e. no longer considered himself an Adventist) by the time he appeared on Boyne's "Religious Hardtalk" program to expose false doctrines in Adventism

There are contradictory statements in Paul's writings, even in the bible, depending on which angle you are reading from. There are also contradictory statements in E.G. White's writing, Pope's writings, and or anyone writing especially about God who created the earth and everything that is in it, and the coming of Jesus Christ. Fortunately for us, God made it very clear. We all know what is good and what is bad. We all know what is to be done for us to have eternal life. And we all have the right to choose either good or evil, with or without E.G. White's writings or any other writer. So lets not waste time debating on who said this and who said what. Every church that we go to, someone started it, with his own beliefs. The only church that God started is in the bible. We all fight because of different opinions. We all want our individual opinions to be the correct ones. Lets go back to basics, the bible way. What is the bible telling you. It is our own manual. As a Seventh-Day Adventist Christian I must say I am blessed to be so. I am neither ashamed of our distinctive beliefs of the Heavenly Sanctuary, Christ and His Heavenly Ministration, the Investigative Judgment, Ellen White and the Spirit of Prophecy, Righteousness by Faith In Jesus, and the Seventh-day Sabbath, and other distinctives that evangelicals would deem unscriptural, but they do err. All of these are tested and biblically sound. But at the end of the day each will choose to what they will regard is truth. Whether the bible says it, or not, also in regards to questions on doctrine I hold not to this heretical book to the stance in answer to our beliefs.

Outside of 1844's misinterpretation, she was never the one who set that time, which was later corrected after careful diligent study. I have to say that the modern view of the investigative judgment and especially the way it is taught is not widely understood or accepted by many in the church today. In fact, in spite of the focus on this program, it is not aggressively taught much anymore to the rank and file members. It is, however, a hot potato at ministry meetings and theological centers of the church. There are more traditional churches that still make this an emphasis. However, in the last 20 years of my teaching career, in numerous regions of the US, I have only heard it mentioned in general terms from the pulpit a handful of times. The greatest emphasis by far is the grace, love, and forgiveness expressed to us through the life, death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Walter Martin made many mistakes. Walter should NEVER have given the SDA leadership an opportunity go re-brand. Walter Martin should have just looked at the doctrinal positions of the SDA. That would have settled the matter
100% agree with you, and the effects of Martin's blunder of classifying them as just "heterodox" rather than a "cult" in his 1965 Kingdom of the Cults book is still being felt to this day. It's absolutely no coincidence that the SDA worldwide membership started increasing rapidly in the following decades, to approximately 4 million in the mid-1980s, 9 million in 1999 and over 20 million today. SDA leaders admitted (in this video) they couldn't have achieved the membership growth they have without Martin's endorsement of them and whenever you bring up the cult aspect with an SDA, many of them will quickly do the knee-jerk reaction and say "Walter Martin said we are not a cult....." From that point onwards (after Questions on Doctrine was published), Adventists slowly became accepted within the Protestant/Evangelical community as their "brothers and sisters" in Christ that just simply worship on Saturday. When you really dig deep into their doctrines and especially Ellen White's writings, NOTHING COULD BE FURTHER FROM THE TRUTH! They're not "JUST" another Christian denomination that meets on Saturday, even though their pastors and members will give you that public image when you first meet them, as when you dig deeper into their fundamental beliefs, they CLEARLY classify themselves as the only true, last-days, end-time remnant church (meaning everyone else is "Babylon"). This is an EXTREMELY deceptive practice, I cannot emphasize that enough. Even when they conduct their Daniel & Revelation prophecy seminars, most of them are held at a neutral location without any mention of it being affiliated with the SDA Church. They will not reveal their affiliation nor identity with you at these seminars until they have done a presentation on the Sabbath. Same when they distribute their literature in letter boxes. If you get a Daniel/Revelation prophecy seminar leaflet, or an invitation to a vegan/vegetarian cooking class run by a religious group, you can be 99% sure it's coming from the SDAs. Doesn't help that Martin also had a soft spot for the Adventists as he was treated at their Weimar Health Institute for diabetes and heart problems. Also, after Martin's meetings with the SDA GC, Donald Barnhouse (a friend of Martin's) started publishing favourable endorsements of the SDA denomination in his Eternity magazine. However, not everyone was deceived by the double-talk. Mainstream Christianity has become more politically correct (especially over the past decade, but the left-wing views slowly started gaining momentum and infiltrated churches in the decade after Walter Martin died), and rarely speak publicly on issues such as women's ordination, LGBT movement etc. as they're more interested in seeing their bank accounts increase in exchange for compromising Biblical truth.
David Cloud and Paul Washer come to mind. Most small independent Baptist churches or other small churches are filled with the spirit. I steer clear of mega churches, evangelical churches and non denominational churches. But you're right for the most part.

If the SDA GC leadership truly believed they were THE remnant and if the truth of the SDA mission depends on the entire world to hear the "everlasting gospel" of the SDA interpretation of the 3 Angel's Messages and other doctrinal distinctives within Adventism

@@clarkent61 As I've mentioned to you in another thread, it's because of this particular 1985 debate on the John Ankerberg Show that SDAs have become very cautious over who they debate in the public domain. They're very picky/selective and will not take on someone one-on-one who is familiar with SDA prooftexts, or someone like Walter Martin who they suspect knows a bit too much about the skeletons in the closet because of fear of being exposed. Johnsson was completely caught off guard and wasn't expecting that Martin had done a lot of research into SDA history (that most SDAs aren't aware of) and brought up issues such as plagiarism, Deuteronomy 18:20-22, Arian history etc.
The only other 2 main televised debates involving an SDA and non-SDA in recent years that generated a lot of publicity within both SDA and Christian circles:
- Steve Gregg and Doug Batchelor on the topic of the Sabbath in 2018
- Victor Hulbert and Doug Harris around 2012.
I would've added Elce Lauriston and Ian Boyne on Jamaican TV in 2016/17 to that list, but Elce had officially renounced his faith in Adventism (i.e. no longer considered himself an Adventist) by the time he appeared on Boyne's "Religious Hardtalk" program to expose false doctrines in Adventism

What puts the whole issue beyond doubt that this prophecy wasn't conditional was that in 1910, a list of those who were still alive from the 1856 meeting was compiled. So, obviously, SDAs living 100+ years ago did not believe the prophecy was conditional, otherwise they wouldn't have bothered to compile that list so they could see that as more people died, it was getting closer to the Second Coming. It was only decades AFTER EGW died that SDAs tried to rationalize the failure with the "conditional prophecy" argument:

I have to say that the modern view of the investigative judgment and especially the way it is taught is not widely understood or accepted by many in the church today. In fact, in spite of the focus on this program, it is not aggressively taught much anymore to the rank and file members. It is, however, a hot potato at ministry meetings and theological centers of the church. There are more traditional churches that still make this an emphasis. However, in the last 20 years of my teaching career, in numerous regions of the US, I have only heard it mentioned in general terms from the pulpit a handful of times. The greatest emphasis by far is the grace, love, and forgiveness expressed to us through the life, death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Walter Martin made many mistakes. Walter should NEVER have given the SDA leadership an opportunity go re-brand.

100% agree with you, and the effects of Martin's blunder of classifying them as just "heterodox" rather than a "cult" in his 1965 Kingdom of the Cults book is still being felt to this day.
It's absolutely no coincidence that the SDA worldwide membership started increasing rapidly in the following decades, to approximately 4 million in the mid-1980s, 9 million in 1999 and over 20 million today. SDA leaders admitted (in this video) they couldn't have achieved the membership growth they have without Martin's endorsement of them and whenever you bring up the cult aspect with an SDA, many of them will quickly do the knee-jerk reaction and say "Walter Martin said we are not a cult....."
From that point onwards (after Questions on Doctrine was published), Adventists slowly became accepted within the Protestant/Evangelical community as their "brothers and sisters" in Christ that just simply worship on Saturday. When you really dig deep into their doctrines and especially Ellen White's writings, NOTHING COULD BE FURTHER FROM THE TRUTH! They're not "JUST" another Christian denomination that meets on Saturday, even though their pastors and members will give you that public image when you first meet them, as when you dig deeper into their fundamental beliefs, they CLEARLY classify themselves as the only true, last-days, end-time remnant church (meaning everyone else is "Babylon"). This is an EXTREMELY deceptive practice, I cannot emphasize that enough. Even when they conduct their Daniel & Revelation prophecy seminars, most of them are held at a neutral location without any mention of it being affiliated with the SDA Church. They will not reveal their affiliation nor identity with you at these seminars until they have done a presentation on the Sabbath. Same when they distribute their literature in letter boxes. If you get a Daniel/Revelation prophecy seminar leaflet, or an invitation to a vegan/vegetarian cooking class run by a religious group, you can be 99% sure it's coming from the SDAs.
Doesn't help that Martin also had a soft spot for the Adventists as he was treated at their Weimar Health Institute for diabetes and heart problems. Also, after Martin's meetings with the SDA GC, Donald Barnhouse (a friend of Martin's) started publishing favourable endorsements of the SDA denomination in his Eternity magazine. However, not everyone was deceived by the double-talk. Louis Talbot immediately confronted the issue in 1957 and started exposing them in a 3-part series:

Also, Anthony Hoekema didn't mince words, directly classifying SDA's as a cult in his 1963 book "The Four Major Cults"
Sadly, Martin had a significantly larger influence within the Protestant/Evangelical Christian community than Hoekema and Talbot, and it was Martin's view of SDAs that won out in the long-term.

The bottom line is if it wasn't for Martin's statements on the SDAs in his book, the denomination could've never expanded rapidly into third-world areas located in Africa/Latin America/Asia over the past 3-4 decades or so. They would've been viewed exactly the same way that Mormonism, JWs and Christian Science are by the majority of Protestant/Evangelicals.
