    On Monday Night the Boston Celtics regained the title for the most championships won in this History of the NBA with banner 18. Now that the season is over I thought we should take a deep dive into something that as been circulating over the last month. This Celtics title run being one of the easiest to win in recent history. So I have thoroughly analyzed the data to determine the validity of these claims, and the results were truly astonishing.

      Casual take… Dallas was a bad match for the Celtics.. and given the History of Jayson Tatum not being Potty Trained the celtics in recent history have lost to teams worse than them by record and ratings. Going into this year any of those teams had a chance to knock them out at full rosters.

    • @StuTheDon17

      @solemagus4761
      Now, that is a casual take!
      Drawing comparisons between this Boston side to those that came before it is moronic.
      This Boston team is WAY stronger than years prior. So judging the Boston teams that didn't have Jrue Holiday and Porzingis to this team that had Jrue Holiday and Porzingis is dumb.
      Not only that, this Boston team still would have breezed through the East if all of their opponents were at full strength. That's how dominant they are.
      Notice how far clear they were as the 1 seed in the East? That's because they are so much better than the rest.
      If you can't see this it's because you didn't watch enough of them this season. Like a casual.

      @@solemagus4761 You're delusional if you think any other team has a chance of beating the Celtics when they were the most dominant team in the regular season and in the playoffs. 😂😂😂😂😂 Maybe if you actually used that brain of yours and watched their games you would see that no team was beating the Celtics even if one of their starters were injured. 😂😂😂😂

    Celtics made it look easy. They were dominating the regular season. ANd injury or not, they have blowout wins in all their playoff series. That's just dominance no matter how you spin it.

    It's not the Celtics' responsibility to make sure their opponents are healthy. They took the regular season seriously, managed their players' loads, etc.

    I don’t know. This team has been knocking on the door for a long, long time. How do you calculate and factor in previous soul-crushing defeats? Easiest? Can you calculate team strength? Do power rankings make a difference?

    There is a calculation for checking how much worse teams are without certain players because their injured. Just check how much they win games without that certain player or plus minus.

    If the Celtics played the 2nd best team in the league this year in 4 straight rounds (OKC with a 7.36 SRS), according to this video the Celtics would have a final score of… +13.56
    This would also be ranked 78th and accordingly would be ranked as the easiest championship ever won.
    But I think we both know if that really happened that that would be one of the hardest roads of all time playing a team of that quality in every round. Therefore this video is debunked and it doesnt mean anything.
    You would have a more accurate video if you simply just added the SRS scores of their opponents, rather than quadruple-counting the championship team’s own SRS score against them. That doesnt make for an accurate result

    • @basketballreach
      @basketballreach  Місяць тому

      That is true but as I said a huge reason as to why this run was so easy was because of how much better Boston was than everyone else

  • @medcase4119
    @medcase4119 Місяць тому +1

    I believe the calculations used do not accurately identify the easiest or strongest path to a title from an objective standpoint since the results include a factor based on the strength of the teams that won. Whether a path is easy or difficult should not be dependent on how strong the eventual champion was, but rather on how relatively strong the competition would have been for any team. As a result, based on your calculations, many historically great teams end up at the bottom of the list. In effect, you're punishing teams for being better than everyone else, but if you're the greatest team in history, your path will always be "easy" relative to the competition, especially since top seeds will always play lower seeds on the way to the finals. The 1996 Bulls (72 wins) are #73 and the 1969 Celtics (48 wins) are #16, meaning that the Celtics had a much tougher path; however, the average number of wins for teams played by the Celtics was 54.6 while the teams the Bulls played won 53.25, yet the Celtics are 57 places higher on the list, mostly because of their own record and seeding rather than the competition they played.

    • @basketballreach
      @basketballreach  Місяць тому

      I agree with you that the SRS does not look at who was the best team but what it does do is look at the hardest playoff run. No doubt the Celtics are the best team in the NBA and one of the best teams ever but because of how good they are compared to the comp it made their run easier

    • @PaM07675
      @PaM07675 Місяць тому

      @@basketballreachThats not a fair assessment tho, thats punishing teams for being really good rather than actually just measuring their competition.
      If you just ran this same experiment but only counted the SRS of their opponents (rather than quadruple counting Boston’s historic SRS) then that would be a much more accurate way to measure how difficult their road was

    They were dominant....
    And plus The Bucks were a mess in the front office, and that is not an excuse...
    The Knicks overused their starting 5 which led to so many injuries
    The 76ers were useless without Embiid and Maxey had too carry it... It's still coaching.

    Wow. You're calculations are miserable. Number 1, no championship is easy, you're playing the best teams or teams that beat the best teams. Number 2 I love Jordan but their Supersonics win was definitely easier.

    • @basketballreach

      It takes into consideration each round of the playoffs not just the finals. In the year were Jordan beat the Sonics who were on of the worst teams to ever make the finals they first had to beat the Knicks would were stacked and the Magic who had just beaten them the season prior to
