I agree about remembering it like it was yesterday. Just goes to show how much we absorb as children to remember them flawlessly years later. Love the classics.
I was born in 1980, and I remember Mr. Hooper quite well........and not from repeated episodes, either. I mean, NEW episodes. As to the paper origami version of this, I am APPALLED!!!!!! I come from the Old-School Sesame Street days, and I also come from the Jim Henson, Joe Raposo, Jerry Nelson, and how dare Sesame Street make a remake of this. Thumbs up if you agree with me. DOWN WITH THE NEW SESAME STREET!!! I miss the Sesame Street I grew up with.
I love this song. It's always been a favorite of mine. My sister loves the clip at the end, because they show a close up of a giraffe for a good long while. She likes giraffes.
Oh can't you see, there's a bird on me. Oh can't you see, there's a bird on me. I can't tell if there's 1 or 2 or 10 or 3 Don't want to complain or raise a fuss, But them birds up there think I'm a motorbus. Oh gee, there's a bird on me. Oh don't ya see, there's a bird on me. They sit there talking to each other not to me. Now how do I find a way to explain, That I'm not a boat or a railway train? Little birdie fly away and don't ya come back no other day. Shoo! Oh can't you see, There's a bird on me. Oh woe is me, there's a bird on me. I'm so darn sick of every feathered friend, oh gee! Stop your chirping and quack quack quack. Come on birdie get off my back!
hahahahaha!!!! Man,I remember watching and laughing at this when I was younger.*snifff*.I feel sorry for this generation.they never got to experience the real, great, classical, educational Seasame street.
On an episode of Sesame Street when Big Bird and Telly saw this, Telly asked Big Bird if all birds liked to sit on people’s heads and Bird said yes I think so. Then, Telly ran away from him thinking that Big Bird was gonna sit on his head. But in the end, Big Bird told him that he would never sit on his head and Telly felt much better.
LOL this is so funny! I have to by those sesame street videos for when I have kids,... it's far more educational than the garbage they have on it today.
The Muppet wiki says Snuffy once sang part of it, and Telly and Big Bird watched it, but I didn't see anything about Grover. Good luck searching, though! You can probably find a subreddit that can help you find it since they have a few good detectives and enthusiasts.
This was so funny. They aired this clip in the 80s a lot. In those days, you would see clips that spanned 2 decades. I wonder if current Sesame Street still includes the old clips from the 60s and 70s. The new stuff they make for kids is so hokey, I find myself rolling my eyes and gagging at the condescension. We were on the verge of the Age of Hokey when I was a kid so it really sucks now.
I learned about the "go away" bird from a documentary. I learned that the bushmen in africa were trying to hunt prey and the bird said "go away!" so the prey ran off (i wasn't sure if the prey was antelope, gazelle or what, i don't remember) but it was hilarious, especially when the hunter glared at the bird!
I LOVE this. It's great how the animals just standing there with that deadpan voice on the soundtrack. Sadly, they just recently remade this song as a computer-animated skit with a cartoon rhino singing it----thereby completely missing what made the original version so funny.
Yeah that's what I ment 3 years ago. They don't mind having birds on them if they keep them clean and healthy. There's a parasite on me should be the name of this song if it should be like animals being bothered.
@LostHatProductions I have also had weird dreams regarding "Sesame Street"! When I was in my early twenties, I had one that they were building into the story that the character of Grover and his cousin both had cancer and were near death!
Buffalo:Little birdie fly away don't come back no other day. Shoo! Birds:We'll remember that when you've got fleas on you and there's no one to pick em off! Buffalo:Oh dear never thought of that! Fleas are worse and you are better! Me and my big mouth!
This seems so much funnier than when I first saw it in '71, when it seemed silly and pointless. But we don't get this homespun humor on TV now, and it reminds us that nobody likes to be used without being befriended, like a motorist pressured to give a hitchhiker a free ride. Thanks for bringing this back!
Yes, I agree. It’s much funnier now than when I first saw it when I was 2 or 3. At that age, I didn’t realize that birds don’t belong on larger animals, so the humor was lost on me.
"I'm so darned sick of every feathered thing! Oh gee!! Stop the chirpin n quack-quack-quack! C'mon now birdie, get off my back!" LOL LOVE this song since it came out!!! Saw the remake of this: A shame! SO not coordinated, and the fun was totally sucked out of it. THIS here the good stuff! :-D
This is still funny, but when I got older it bugged me. Why? Because given that the birds are eating parasites from the mammals, a mammal singing for a bird to get off it's back is absurd! Heh. Still, pretty awesome.
No, but it can still be annoying. After all, it's bad enough when people are talking behind your back (and you just KNOW they're talking about you), but when they are actually standing on your very back and still ignoring you, that's just a wee bit much. Good point, just not the one of the song.
Tell me, for anyone that has seen the recent Sesame Street, there's this song, but VERY different. I can't help watching, but there's an animated one in which it shows a Holstein singing the song with birds landing on it until it goes into the water (don't know if it's a cow or bull.) Have you seen it? In my opinion, SSt. remaking this would make Raposo quit if he was still alive and working for them. I can see that his classic vids are extremely hard to find on that show now.
I used to laugh so hard at this as a kid. I was a preschooler in the '70's, when they played this. I still love watching it.
So did I ! This song pops in my head whenever a bird lands on a man's head, I try not to die laughing!
You see birds landing on men’s heads?

This is one reason why Sesame Street is so great: it is both entertaining and informative. This has no educational value, but is just fun and silly.
It's educational! We are learning that birds are a pain in the butt to other animals!
Clicking on this brings back so many wonderful childhood memories
LOL!! The music and the song are both hilarious! This really takes me back. Love all the Classic Sesame Street vids on here.
You know you made an impact when a 52 yr old goes around singing this
Stop spying on me!
I agree about remembering it like it was yesterday. Just goes to show how much we absorb as children to remember them flawlessly years later. Love the classics.
I nearly fell out of my chair laughing. I think this is my favorite Raposo song out of all of them.
Oh my God I can't believe I found this!! It makes me so happy!!
Today for some reason this song popped into my head.
Loved this when I was a kid..and still love it!!!
I still hum this song to myself to this very day! A classic!
Incredible. This had slipped my mind for years, but once the music started it all came rushing back, almost word or word. I love this.
I was born in 1980, and I remember Mr. Hooper quite well........and not from repeated episodes, either. I mean, NEW episodes.
As to the paper origami version of this, I am APPALLED!!!!!!

Just because something is new, that doesn’t make it bad. It’s okay for things to change.
"they sit there talkin' to each other and not to me"
aw... poor rhino
He should be greatful they at least keep him healthy by eating fleas off him.
Oh can’t you see, there’s a flea on me
this song rocks!!! it makes me laugh every time i see it.
I remembered this the second the music started. Thanks so much for uploading it!
Oh thanks for this video!!! Takes me back to my childhood!!! Calms my nerves.
I loved this when I was little.
I love this song. It's always been a favorite of mine. My sister loves the clip at the end, because they show a close up of a giraffe for a good long while. She likes giraffes.
Best sesame street song
Every time I visit a zoo -- either at home or on the road -- this song always manages to pop into my head!
So glad this is on UA-cam
This music......is pure GENIUS
Oh can't you see, there's a bird on me.
Oh can't you see, there's a bird on me.
I can't tell if there's 1 or 2 or 10 or 3
Don't want to complain or raise a fuss,
But them birds up there think I'm a motorbus.
Oh gee, there's a bird on me.
Oh don't ya see, there's a bird on me.
They sit there talking to each other not to me.
Now how do I find a way to explain,
That I'm not a boat or a railway train?
Little birdie fly away and don't ya come back no other day. Shoo!

Stop your chirping and quack quack quack. Come on birdie get off my back!
I'm so happy to have found this on here! I remember this from back in the day.. xD
WOW! I remember that when I was a kid. Thank you for the flashback.
I remember laughing so hard at this when I was little. I still sing that phrase now for different things.
I love the music in this clip!
Classic!
One of the best songs on sesame street!
I will never be able to get this song out of my head.
Come on bird, get offa my back!
The music is awesome!
lol! i rember seeing this when i was a kid in the 80's when played it in reruns
This 1st appeared in episode 416 Monday November 27th 1972.
I thought for a long time that my brother and I made this up. then I remembered XD wow its been so long since I have heard this
hahahahaha!!!!
Man,I remember watching and laughing at this when I was younger.*snifff*.I feel sorry for this generation.they never got to experience the real, great, classical, educational Seasame street.
Strongly agree
I sing this song every time I see a bird sitting in another animal.
Too right.
For whatever reason, this is even funnier hearing it as an adult, and it was already pretty funny.
I remember that episode too!
i can totally relate
I remember this one... Always funny!
Now this was really old..........1969!
hah this is great
This must be my favorite Sesame Street song.
LOL this is so funny!
I have to by those sesame street videos for when I have kids,... it's far more educational than the garbage they have on it today.
This made me laugh so hard when I was a kid. And hey it still works!
This song and the rhythm of the singers voice reminds me of a silly Arlo Guthrie song.
I remember Grover singing this as well, unfortunately I've never been able to find that clip again...
The Muppet wiki says Snuffy once sang part of it, and Telly and Big Bird watched it, but I didn't see anything about Grover. Good luck searching, though! You can probably find a subreddit that can help you find it since they have a few good detectives and enthusiasts.

I call it the last generation of kids back in '73 (1970's)
I sing this quite often although there's hardly ever a bird on me.
I remember another version with Snuffy
The classic SS... the Jim Henson era... we were lucky. It was Sesame Street's heydey indeed.
I LOVE this. It's great how the animals just standing there with that deadpan voice on the soundtrack.
Sadly, they just recently remade this song as a computer-animated skit with a cartoon rhino singing it----thereby completely missing what made the original version so funny.
Hippo actually 🦛
He should be grateful the birds eat parasites when they're there and they also warn him when there's danger.
This was one of my favorite clips when I was a kid. And I agree, the current Sesame Street is hokey...mainly because of Elmo. He drives me crazy.
I remember it from the mid 80s...I think it may have aired in the 70s though.
I think the 70s
I got a Pokemon trading card depicting a Bouffalant (buffalo) with two Natu (birds) in its fur, and I thought of this skit!
I was playing Angry Birds when the new version came up on Muppet Central Radio!
Yeah that's what I ment 3 years ago. They don't mind having birds on them if they keep them clean and healthy. There's a parasite on me should be the name of this song if it should be like animals being bothered.
@LostHatProductions

actually it's good to have that kind of bird in the song on you to eat all the fleas and ticks that make you itch
Buffalo:Little birdie fly away don't come back no other day. Shoo!
Birds:We'll remember that when you've got fleas on you and there's no one to pick em off!
Buffalo:Oh dear never thought of that! Fleas are worse and you are better! Me and my big mouth!
NERD ALERT!!
Actually they were ticks. A bad outbreak. The birds picked off the ticks to lap up the blood from the open wounds on the host animals.
This seems so much funnier than when I first saw it in '71, when it seemed silly and pointless. But we don't get this homespun humor on TV now, and it reminds us that nobody likes to be used without being befriended, like a motorist pressured to give a hitchhiker a free ride. I agree
I think We are about the same age. I am 52.
Its Cute!
Can't you see there's a bird on me. Oh woe is me. There's also a terd on me.
I also come from the Jim Henson, Jerry Nelson, Joe Raposo, Jerry Nelson era as well.
That was so cute.
Funny song!
I like this version better than the animated remake. :/
Feel kinda guilty about that, since folks worked so hard on it...
Sesame Street when it was still good.
lol hilarious and memorable
This song would be good for Lervene from The Hunchback of Notra Dam who hates having pegions on her.
@Samoaqueen
maybe the whole point of his complaint, "Hey guys, I'm down here, I can hear you!"
oh i for got to put they in my comment
Hey, at least the birds eat the bugs on them
yeah in paper origami animation!
@shydmples XD I love that line, too
THERES A FUKIN BIRD ON ME!!! YARRRRGGGGG!!!!
This is still funny, but when I got older it bugged me. Why? Because given that the birds are eating parasites from the mammals, a mammal singing for a bird to get off it's back is absurd!

Oh can't you seee...there's a bird on meee
lol in 2006 I was only 2 and now I'm 12
@stegatops
The year I was born!
@BonzoGal1980 Totally!!!
This tune sounds like the style of Woody Guthrie's children's songs.
I wouldn't say that would be bad.
A fun song, but I'm pretty sure those birds help pick parasites off of these animals.
SethBlizzard Exactly-you say “pest,” I say “pest control!”
Truth be told, the birds are removing ticks to lap up blood from the wound.
And those birds also warn the animal they're on when a dangerous predator or hunter is coming.
i use to trip of this song it was so funny
Between this and the Winnie the Pooh sexual abuse defense song I am starting to believe there truly is a song for every occation.
come on bird get off my mack!
i heard this in a dream changed to "you gonna burn on me" weird
Tell me, for anyone that has seen the recent Sesame Street, there's this song, but VERY different. In my opinion, SSt. remaking this would make Raposo quit if he was still alive and working for them. I can see that his classic vids are extremely hard to find on that show now.
It's always the birds man. Sorry Roahm I kinda had to use that one
