Paul and Rachel Chandler, the British couple kidnapped by Somali pirates, say their captors are "losing patience" as they wait for ransom negotiations to begin.
In October 2009 the Chandlers set sail from the Seychelles for Tanzania. Ninety miles offshore, their small yacht was boarded by armed Somali pirates, who held them hostage on land for more than a year, demanding a ransom of millions.
They were held hostage for 388 days and freed when a private ransom was paid, mostly be members of their extended family.

Rpg's have a minimum distance/rotation arming mechanism. The rocket has to spin 7 times before the fuse arms. There's no threat of it exploding at that distance but the rocket and the huge fins would tear right through you. Edit: wrong arming mechanism, actually arms at 5 meters.

I was just thinking about that lol
I think the problem is that people these days are sheltered from world events. For example, people still go to Mexico as if it is a normal country because they have not seen the things that happen there every day (it is arguably worse than Syria - at least in Syria you know where you stand) and the same goes for Brazil. The entire continent of Africa is ravaged by terrorism and violence and would be dangerous for anyone to travel to and I would not recommend it.
The media doesn't help either. Most of the time they just ignore everything that is happening, and when they actually do report things like ISIS beheadings they play it out as if they are done in the same merciful way we used to do them in the past with a specialist axe, sword or guillotine - neglecting the fact that modern beheadings use knives to saw through the throat and neck. What this all does is create a picture of the world that is better than it actually is, and lures people into a false sense of security.
Unfortunately, this couple was likely just ignorant of just how bad things are/were, and I don't think that's their fault. These days you have to go out of your way and on to some pretty dodgy websites to see uncensored footage of things that are happening around the world.

It is not "dangerous for anyone to travel to", maybe if you are traveling to some of the most vulnerable areas you would be a high risk target depending on how you look but otherwise what you're saying is over-exaggerated.
