@@LanceOMG Unbreakable was fair, a bit slow.. I think I rewatched, Unbreakable one other time to understand it more, would I watch it again, probably not.. never have. The Sixth Sense was good, I've rewatched it multiple times. Trap I would rate below Unbreakable. Trap was ummm... ok? lol. But I wouldn't rewatch, by choice lol.
Just got back from seeing it, and I really get where you’re coming from, but I had such a great time with this one. I think the way the film presents its urgency and tension is so well done, and Josh Harnett is so good I’m speechless. One of my favorites of the year! Great review.
Glad to hear you really dug it! Hartnett really does kill it here, so good to see him back in a big role like this where he can strut his stuff. Happy to say I liked this one, because I’ve been cold on M. Night recently. Thanks for watching, dude!
Silence of the Lambs at a Taylor Swift concert should have been the movies tagline. I enjoyed the hell out of this movie. Josh Hartnett was phenomenal in this movie. Great review.
Haha I wish I could take credit for that hook, but I got that one from M. Night himself! Glad you had a fun time with this one, definitely a messy experience but it’s an entertaining ride for sure. Thanks for watching as always, T!
Glad to hear you really dug this one! Critics have been pretty harsh on this movie, but that's an M. Night Shyamalan film for you...I thought it was definitely an entertaining flick, regardless of some of the 3rd act nonsense. Thanks for checking out the review!
The later act throws you for a loop and someone else takes over as main character for a while. I can imagine there are valid reasons why that might not be good storytelling, but it's the first time we experience the main character from someone else's POV because in the first act we're morbidly rooting for him to solve and escape his situation, but then we finally feel how scary he is.
I agree that it was refreshing that it was not a twisty, heavy film. It just plays out straight and fun. I wish it got the 4 stars but I understand why you deducted points. Great review as always. I need to see more m night films
Haha trust me, I wish it got the 4 stars too! But unfortunately, after that messy 3rd act I just couldn’t do it even though I had a lot of fun with this movie. Thanks for watching, Zach!
For me M. Night's best film is Unbreakable. I'm kinda 50/50 on M. Night overall. One thing he always does is deliver great trailers so that I'm at least interested. I really enjoyed this movie. Great setup, fun cat & mouse and an absolutely wild 3rd act. I think the 3rd act will make or break a lot of folks experience with this one. Great review Sully!
Thank you for “getting” the premise! M Knight TOLD us it would be a movie unlike anything else he’s done. From the trailers we see the serial killer/doting Daddy is a rabbit hole we want to explore right away. From the beginning we note the first of the 4,862 improbabilities in the plot. Intententional! Cooper quizzing the lovable numbskull who spills the beans is a hoot. Hartnett’s performance (great over the top! 😅) sliding between resourceful and menacing to affectionate and sweet shows why he is still considered a versatile actor with a great reputation in both the studio and the independent film industries. We took this movie as fun and entertaining and we went to see it twice!
IMO Shama's best film is 6th Sense, but my favorite movie of his is The Village. The spooky nature of it and that twist completely floored me at the end.
I thought this movie was pretty solid. A heck of trap to be in when you have a ton of kids and police officers hawking the place and no where to run. I like Saleka role in the movie, well after she entertained the audience. She was freaking bold in the movie.
Awesome review man glad to hear that this was an enjoyable watch especially with Josh Hartnett performance but i have been hearing a lot about the 3rd act and sounds like a mixed bag but i do want to check this one out and yeah for me Unbreakable is my favourite M Night movie
Yeah that 3rd act goes off the rails a bit, and it’s gonna vary person by person whether or not you’re able to suspend your disbelief and just roll with the punches. I definitely had some fun with it, but understand why others wouldn’t. Thanks for watching, dude!
@@SullyStreams Yes, my thoughts about third act was the same on the first viewing, but on the second viewing quite fit into the general style of the film. Thanks for the excellent review!
I suppose unbreakable would be my favorite, although I couldn't stand it the first time I saw it. Over the years it really grew on me. I like Split and Glass as well. Believe it or not, I also have some dumb fun with The happening too.
Having dumb fun with The Happening is really the only kind of fun anyone is able to have with it, definitely some quotable overacting moments in that one. Thanks for watching, JM!
When watching The Happening the emotion delivered depended in part on the general mood of the audience at the screening. I was lucky, the audience clearly caught the mood of the film)
“Silence of the Lambs at a Taylor Swift concert” is the most accurate description of this film😭I’m glad we finally got a banger M. Night project. I am glad he didn’t throw in a crazy twist, because sometimes we don’t need that all the time 🙂
I really seem like the outsider here. I truly think the messy part u mention is the part I just cant get over. I think there WAY too many moments that just are not realistic and the movie is going for a very real tone. Idk. Just thought it was bad BUT glad u got the enjoyment and breezy watch 😂
I think you’re definitely not alone when it comes to having this film not work for you at all! Completely agree that there’s definitely a tonal shift in the third act that takes a more grounded cat and mouse flick, and turns it into one where you need to suspend your disbelief. I enjoyed it even though it’s goofy and messy. Thanks for watching, Jacob!
I came into this movie expecting nothing and just wanting to see Josh Hartnett. I definitely would say three and a half is a solid review. I miiiight event given it four. It reminded me a lot of Hitchcock. I've seen the biggest complaints being about the fact there was no twist.... but let's be real, M. Night hasn't done a good twist since... Signs? Some folks might argue The Village, but I wasn't a fan. He's attempted to do amazing twists SO many times, and I think his calling might just be making a great thriller. Thanks for the fun review!
I agree 100% that his filmography is split. No pun intended. He's definitely a great filmmaker. I can see 3 terrible Shyamalan films in a row and I would not hesitate to go see the 4th. Even if they begin or end weirdly, there's still always some decent entertainment somewhere in there. The first 3 quarters of this one were the highlights for me. Excited to see more of Josh Hartnett, hopefully soon.
He along with Michael bay, Roland emmerich and Zack snyder are divisive but that doesn’t mean they are bad directors they have good movies and speaking of the other directors I’m looking forward to what movies they will make next and that they should be constantly working to make films each year would you ever do a director series review on them.
Was hoping for a good movie . They should so much of the tension moments in the trailer … then when the movie got good.. we had to stop for a promotional music break and it kept doing it .. even when there was no more concert . To me M.Night sacrificed good story to promote his daughters Pop career . Josh Harnett was great but he deserved a better movie .
I saw this film. The movie ws awesome well written n film. Plus da main character act ws so awesome. Knw because after serving youme foe over a decade. I seen n talk to few killers n death raw. N yes da act ws perf😢 on hw a killer acts behaves n so on. Cnt wait to see da sequ if there s one to b.
Trap is actually quite bad and anyone saying different is entitled to their opinion just as I am to say they are either paid-off or trolling. Every thing the director did right with his first success until The Village and then later with The Visit and Split...he did so very wrong here. Pod-people acting from all but the daughter and ludicrous situations plus laughably easy contrivances abound.
Josh was really good but this was a bad movie. Everyone trying to catch him is so stupid and its a 90 minute commercial for his daughter at the end of the day.
I took it as part of "M. Night Shyamalan World". Cooper has the superpower to create empathy for himself by reducing the cognitive functions of the people he meets) Saleka was great by the way.
@@Str52849 I highly disagree with your last sentence. I'd say she was adequate but the whole third act left such a bad taste in my mouth, I don't want to see her for a long time.
What's the best M. Night Shyamalan movie? I'm gonna go with either The Sixth Sense or Unbreakable!
It would definitely have to be Unbreakable. Most of his other movies are good until the reveal at the end and then it’s a letdown.
His twists are always VERY make or break…
