Peter Sprague Plays “Serrado” featuring Allison Adams Tucker

Here’s a song written by the great Brazilian artist named Djavan. Ever since we discovered the music of Brazil we immediately fell in love with Djavan’s singing and his songs. They are a cool blend of bossa nova and pop and have supreme rhythmic and harmonic integrity.
On our version of “Serrado” we have Allison sounding beautiful singing in Portuguese. The whole band is cooking along and the interlude after the solos and at the end of the tune finds us all embracing the off beats. "Don’t panic" one sage once recommended.

i'm admiring the economy of left hand movement (like almost none!) while improvising. after all, about two and half octaves of scope should be more than enough to express oneself, right? Miles and other brass players managed to do it in about one and half.
and the vocalist used as an additional colortone "instrument" in the chorus was a nice touch. at first i didn't know where it was coming from. ha
