This is one of my favorite songs of all time. I met my wife and married her when we were very young. We were also very young parents, and in the beginning I struggled trying to find a job to pay for us all. I got into a plumbing apprenticeship by the grace of God when we needed it most, and this is one of the anthems of my life. I just wanted a humble and stable life, and make sure we'd all be ok. I'm now 48 with 27 and 23 year old sons that have grown into incredible, smart, talented young men. I credit my wife for a lot of it, but I'm happy that I could be there to help when I could.
Love your comment. We also married young and struggled to make ends meet. 38 years later, 4 children 37-27 and 5 grandchildren. I hear this song from a mother's perspective of what I want for my three sons. My favorite Skynyrd song for sure.
We were out about 70 feet from the stage that night. Stapleton had played first and then KOL blew the crowd away with their music. Then Chris Stapleton came out and they did this. There were wet eyes everywhere. The sound was phenomenal......
Simple Man could quite possibly be the most emotional song that strikes that emotional cord the 10,000 th time you hear it as if were the first . A masterpiece of a song . I played this song over and over and over when my first Golden Retriever passed. I know this sounds absurd because it was a dog. My husband and I had no children, not the 2-legged kind anyway. "Jake" was almost 9 and had a history of canine seizures since he was 4. The love he brought out in me is a debt I can never repay. We had his ashes in an urn, and when his "brother" died ten years later at 14, we put his ashes in the beautiful box that my son made for "Bozzi." Both dogs were about 100# each.
