Nathan, can you show how to get up if you have nothing to hold to? I fell out in public with nothing to hold to so that I could get myself up. I had to wait until someone walked by to get help to get up.

Thank you. I just fell today but I learned to get up differently but kneeling hurts my good leg. I'll try this if it ever happens again but hopefully not.

Great vidio Nate. I do my lunges in the kitchen holding on to the counters. I have Multiple Sclerosis, my left leg and arm do not wok well. I use a foot Brace and a Cane. Everyday I practice getting on the floor and getting up using only one leg and arm.(I also do floor exercises) If you know how to do this. It makes when you do fall less scary.

@@Silintype77 : I'm not a pt or ot, but I think you can still do the squatting to kneeling one with only one hand support. If you're using a chair, make sure that there's somebody there to help stabilize the chair so that it doesn't flip when you push on it with your strong hand. It is going to be more difficult and will require more leg effort. The other exercise, the one in which you bring up one knee at a time is bound to be trickier, especially when you have to lift the weaker knee, since you might lose your balance. Leaning your upper body on your chair or bed, like he does when he shows how to get up (at about 3:44 in the video) might help in this case.
As I said, I'm not an expert, so please do ask a pt or ot before trying.
All the best in your recovery!! 🙂
