This was a great video. I bought my first Yamaha outboard recently and had no idea what was involved in doing this job. The only mistake I made was somehow I bumped the gearbox into gear and didn’t realize it until I tried to put in back in. Once I realized my mistake it went right back together. Saved myself the labor expense but more importantly the time to get it repaired. For some reason boat mechanics are really busy in the summer. 🤣
Great video, one of the most helpful. The tool you made for removing the drive shaft collar is the best approach I've seen - do you recall the dimensions of the cutout?
Hello Paul, I made that tool out of a scrap of angle steel I had laying around. The cutout is 0.950" across, about the same deep and obviously round to fit the shaft on the inside, the steel I used is 0.065" thick. Thanks for watching.
good question. We inspect our customer's water pumps every season, and replace the impeller every 2 years. Our customers generally put very few hours on their boats in a season, often less than 10 or 20. So it really is just a waste of money to replace parts that are not required. At the first sign of any need, we do replace the complete kit.
@@CanadaWideMarine OK so if you're tearing it all apart why wouldn't you just spend the $20 on a new mpeller every year if you're gonna go through that work.. I guess I would

Why not spend the extra few dollars ans use a full replacement kit?
