- „The Bells" is one of the best-loved keyboard compositions by William Byrd (1540 -- 1623) and was inspired by the sound of chiming church bells. This music is at least as fascinating as the glorious drone of church bells itself, according to the lyrics of the song by Neil Diamond "What a beautiful noise"!
Stefan Müller plays on the Hauser organ of the Wettingen Abbey church (Switzerland, County Aargau).

@HubertBaril: Thanks for the nice comment, which is quite true. The reason for this fact is rather easy: Bell ringing is by nature a kind of minimal music, which today - thanks to the generation of Philip Glass, Steve Reich, etc. - has become a very popular form of modern music.

I remember one time when i was in pilgrimage in the bosnian Church of Siroki Brijeg. It was noon and the bells started playing all together in the empty Church, you could hear even the heavy beater stroke..... it was beautifull

The Organ has no Zymbelstern; the ringing sound at the end was produced by real little bells.

"Change Ringing" kann man aus den schnellen Passagen heraushören, dagegen erinnern der Grundrhythmus und das Hauptthema eher an schwingende Glocken. Zur Entstehungszeit dieser Musik (ca. um 1600 A.D.) entstand in England die Technik des Change Ringing gerade erst und das schwingende Läuten war vermutlich noch häufiger anzutreffen.

No, I used simple small bronzebells (of some cm in diameter) of my collection which fitted to the final chord. But I agree that the suggested Altar bells would sound similar if they are of good quality and in tune with the music, and if they have a similar design as the first few examples given here:

The big bell after the organ music is the famous and gloriously sounding "Sancta Maria" from the Cathedral in Konstanz/Germany.

We went to church to worship Messiah to the bells ringing from a mechanically driven set at a church across the road. This, a telling inditement on our age. Don't we care and value our own humanity, we are sometimes out of sync, sometimes out of time, Hand held ropes every time please!

Thank you for your interest in this music. An actual organ version is not absolutely necessary, since this harpsichord work could also be played entirely on the manuals of an organ. Of course an experienced organist will play the lower and slower notes on the pedal to make manual playing easier and can mark the bass notes on the sheet of music accordingly.

What painting? There are seveal in the video. But if you mean the paintings at the beginning and the end, they depict fantasy cathedrals painted by Karl Friedrich Schinkel:

True, and it's a Swiss organ, and a German organist... - So, why is this a problem for you? The language of music is international and I think William Byrd would be quite happy today if he could see how popular his music is also outside of England.
But please - just go ahead and produce your own video of this lovely music together with English bells. Certainly, I will be enjoyed by such a video because I love English bell ringing as well!
Because he clearly wanted to mimic the change ringing bells, which as you know, has certain rythms and patterns.
Not quite true, for - as I commented 3 years ago below - change ringing was just invented during Byrds lifetime and not so totally widespread in the UK as today. Therefore, the old style of freely dangling bells must have been much more common then and you can hear these rythms in the music as well. Thus both ringing methods are legitimate as a pictorial and audible supplement for such a video.
Now that's where you're utterly wrong. ;)

Well, you have obviously not much knowledge about the history of change ringing or of bells in general. So I can merely smile about your comment. Just listen to the music carefully, then you will hear dangling bells as well! Cheers!
