How the BBC "helped" to sell half a million CB radios in 1982

- On this video we look at the effect that the airing of a very popular TV show (20 million weekly viewers) in 1982 had on the sales of CB radio in the UK, due to UA-cam and the BBC it isnt possible to play the video on here, I have instead used slides and audio form the show.
The DVD is available on the usual second hand market places or new at the usual stops, "Terry and June the Complete Fifth Series" - Наука та технологія
I'd forgotten this episode of T & J. However, I do remember that Eddie Yeats from Coronation Street met his girlfriend (later wife) on the CB when he was a dustman. I think his handle was 'Slim Jim' and hers was 'Stardust Lil'.
I distinctly remember that Mr. Humphries had a CB radio in an episode of Are You Being Served? We saw that here not on BBC of course, but on CBC Television. All the Best! 73 DE W8LV BILL (W8LV/VE3 pre covid)

Great sitcom that. June Whitfield not been gone all that long. I got my first CB radio in 1991, planet 2000. Never been without CB ever since. It's a great tool and also a good hobby. Unfortunately I probably have too many now...... However, we all need a spare, right😁? Good video.

@@knoxieman My late brother had a CB in the early 80s his handle was pirate he had a multimode CB they used to transmitted on AM frequency but had FM and could use side band I think I was around 13 at the time I'm 55

Love cb had a AM set back in 1979 till 1981 so much fun wish we has thos times again

You get the feeling these days that the BBC just make "comedy shows (usually just left wing stand ups spouting bad langauage or playing quizzes that have been scripted to within an inch of their lives) for Keir Starmer (the man who doesn't know the difference between a biological woman and a man in a dress) and his bunch of sensitive pansies. They would sneer at shows like this, but take seriously the vile Eddie "treat me like a laydee") Izzard, and the puerile Paul Merton on Have I Go News For you?

Thanks for this, great fun although I don't think I saw this episode back then. Does anyone else remember CB featuring in "One Foot In The Grave"? I think Victor Meldrew's handle may have been "Dry Rot".

I was the person that uploaded this video in full , Terry and June CB radio in 3 parts but the BBC blocked it for there copyright claim , yet u can from view from outside UK . I might try again

Fantastic days,met the mrs,40 years on still together,just purchased a president lincoln brill,

In a sitcom Good times there is an episode called breaker breaker then we had shows like the dukes of hazzards they use CB radios in that show all the time moving on BJ and the Bear and in Hollywood the big screen everyone knows convoy and smoking in the bandit

I run a 148 gtl DX also. Mark 1. With a astatic teardrop 575 m6 mic. New radio wise I use an alinco DX 10. My antenna is a simple silver rod. I have it 18 floors up on my tower block roof🌚

There may be a resurgence in cb thanks to "stranger things" on Netflix as the main cast of kids use a realistic 3 band CB to chat to each other!

Dempsey and Makepeace in the later episodes used a big Ham radio i think in the office, and it showed the band they were on, i think way too low for Police in those days? and some shots they are talking on the radio and its not on.
I had an old school one like Terry had at home. Maybe even what I had had more knobs on it. 2nd hand. 90's. A new one of the time. smaller, in the car. all gone now. amateur radio unit in the car now. That's all/ Nothing at home. Handhelds sold other week to get some money to replace the drone that did its own thing (not me), Dropped into the Oxford canal after deciding to go up 8m under a tree, you can guess the next bit. splash. That been on reruns, Seen that, might be 25 years ago but have.
