#Death #Symbolic
The whole 'Symbolic' album is the perfect marriage between brutality and melody, between technical prowess and catchiness, all wrapped up in a good production; one of the finest death metal albums of all time... 👌
Like the laid back style .
Death is pretty much all death metal you ever need in your life.
Symbolic is fucking masterpiece!
@@kullerwo For me it has always been a virtual coin toss between 'Symbolic' and Carcass 'Heartwork', when I am asked to name the perfect blend of brutality, melody, catchiness and good production values on a death metal album..
@Dragon Ball fans can't read I can see how one would be disappointed in this album after what came before. Mostly due to what you said and just the lack of extremeness to it. But for what it is, a more Melodic piece of Metal, it’s hard to beat it.
@@cbn6635 I definitely need to check that album out. I'm not very familiar with Carcass so I have a lot to discover.
The drums on this album are played by Gene "The Atomic Clock" Hoglan.
🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
Gene didn't play. He just thought!
I got to see Gene Hoglan play for Testament and Anthrax in the same night. It was fucking awesome.
dude is a maniac Lmao love him
@@ziggzagg8878 I'll be able to see him for the first time live playing with Dark Angel next month can't fkin wait
RIP Chuck. Incredible artist.
No bad songs in this album, very good
timeless masterpiece!
I completly agree
No bad songs in entire discography
@@---pn4je yes.. No doubt
@@petrinafilip96 what is wh ?
Guys, respect for the fact that you took a song from bands like DEATH to the workshop... Not many on the internet had the courage to take them on... Many thanks for that, respect.
Remember that when looking at Death Metal music, DEATH can be perceived as Light Death Metal today....
Thanks a lot. I love them, RIP Chuck
Yeah, they are definitely more similar to a thrash metal vibe to me nowadays compared to what I’m listening to. Like obviously they’re not Thrash, but they’re like Progressive Death Metal. I listen to a lot of the new stuff that’s influenced by Obituary and Emtombed, so a lot heavier in comparison
Because the death metal today is utter trash. Growling garbage. This is real death metal
This comment. Signed.
@@fuckwad2024 obituary are a clone of death. And a bad one at that
I knew Chuck when he moved to California from Florida in 86. My buddy Chris is the drummer on the first album, Scream Bloody Gore.
part of history
Chris Reifert! ❤
@@AutopsyMyDeath Correct
@@bayareathrasher666 how did I know? 🤔
@@AutopsyMyDeath Maybe you are Chris or Danny?
The drummer has 2 rides, one on left and one on the right. That's why his cymbal work is so insane
This Song Even this Band "DEATH" is just Perfect Before you fight in MMA or Boxing.
Classic! One of the most influential and important metal albums of all time ! RIP Chuck 🖤
Still the best work of Gene Hoglan to this day, and one of the finest in metal ever, in my opinion. Raw, brutal, accurate, yet creative and intricate. Wonderful.
Agreed. I love his work on everything (Testament, Dark Roots is great), but this whole album is a masterpiece.
Strapping Young Lad as well!
I would say it is a strong tie with ITPs. There is some crazy jazzy passages going on. Very similar style to Symbolic.
death has a lot of beauty in their solos
His face... Nick.....just nasty solo... underrated yet Schuldiner's riffs are unique and raw 👌.... need to watch a live concert video
I can still remember the first time I heard this album in 1995. And I listen to it regularly to this day, a perfect album.
Same here
The pinnacle of Death. As you rightly say, perfect.
Reverse delay on the snare. Great reaction. A band which was so unique, and Chuck was a fuckin philosopher of thoughts that provoked reflection of life. I love seeing proper reactions to deeper songs, ive seen a few where the people listening clearly dislike it, and arent able to get last things eg the vocals as you all pointed out.
He was very clear spoken for such a raw voice.
The drummer is Gene Hoglan - he is still skinbashing to this day.
Born in the 70's.
Thrash Metal, Progresive, Glam Metal, Heavy Metal, Death Metal, Hard Rock, Grunge....OH MAN...THOSE WERE THE DAYS.
The godfathers of death metal damn good guitar player
Another cut from Symbolic that often gets overlooked is Perennial Quest; it's about a man who goes on a journey to find happiness in life (he was quoted as saying it was about his own personal quest to find happiness in life, and about the obstructions that can come up), and it ends with a solo that can make a metalhead tear up a bit.. although I am a bit biased lol
Best outro of any album ever
I like zero tolerance
i like Without Judgement.
Death - crystal mountain next 🤘
It's funny you guys described the ride cymbal shenanigans as fat guy on a little coat because the drummer on this album, Gene Hoglan, was a big guy. Nowadays he lost a ton of weight, but keeps playing amazingly
Love to see you guys react to Death-Lack of Comprehension
That song SHREDS!
ahhh, the Death/Cynic album. Sean Reinert and Paul Masvidal were just beastly on that. especially Reinert on drums at just 19 years old, laying it down in such a way as to inspire older drummers like Hoglan and Tomas Haake (from Meshuggah) to up their game in so many ways. their influence is, in my opinion, what took Chuck in such a technical and progressive direction. he tried to hire them as permanent fixtures on the band, but they were just about to release Cynic's FOCUS after the HUMAN tour, so they politely declined. and that, folks, is how Gene Hoglan eventually became Death's drummer.
@@ignoblesavage5559until Gene left, and Richard Christy, an insanely talented drummer, himself, came aboard for the final Death album.
This is why metal and rap fans get along so well
The album cover is pure art
The word genius gets thrown around willy nilly these days, but Chuck Schuldiner truly was a musical genius. He was the death metal Bach. A truly talented composer of music with a very clear vision of what he wanted to do.
Thanks for doing a Death reaction
This is one of the best metal albums ever recorded. Progressive death-metal.
DEATH is a work of art within Extreme Metal, Chuck Schuldiner was a genius within music and everyone recognizes that (It is not for nothing that they call him Philosopher within the genre, due to his talent and genius)
The Metal genre and exclusively the band DEATH has a Complex sound because it is well crafted and you can be sure that playing this type of music you have to make a lot of effort and especially study a lot to play the instrument.
The lyrics (most) are well thought out, some talk about life reflection, or in other cases inspirations taken from books or some horror movie or protest against the system.
And we fans of the genres love that, because the music here has always been taken seriously, because it's made from the heart, the music has true feeling inside it.
For example, Black Sabbat lives among young and old people to this day, and it is already a band with 50 years on the road and that happens exactly because of that, feeling within the music, and with that new bands are emerging which makes this genre in other words eternal, passing from generation to generation
(Hardly do we see another musical genre that is so acclaimed and alive over the years like this, right ?)
METAL IS MUSIC!!!! METAL IS CULTURE!!! METAL IS ART!!!!
Great video guys, congratulations !!!!
#KeepTheMetalFaithAlive #SupportTheMusicNotTheRumors #RIPChuckSchuldiner
i LOVE when a sudden pause or tempo change catches you off guard and makes you laugh. One of the better things abt listening to music in general. It almsot takes my breath a bit. Crazy stuff. I love it The Lyrics are amazing as well
Chuck was so legend that everyone who worked with him in Death became big names and did big shit afterward. Not only one of a kind but Death albums still stand up to anything released to this very day. Actually, they make a lot of heavy bands these days look pretty unskilled lol.
PS Death is from Canada!
Death is not from Canadá bruh
Death were from Altamonte (pronounced al-ta-mont) Springs in Orlando, Florida. Chuck moved to Canada in 1986 to join a band called Slaughter, but that wasn't related at all to Death and he moved back to Florida later the same year.
More death!
And Oingo Boingo
❤️ Death, so much beauty in their music. So much talent. People that don’t really listen to this band, like really listen, just can’t understand it’s beauty.
Oh my goodness is an understatement that would take you into the song
Excellent reaction. You asked about live stuff. Do the "Live in LA official video". Excellent crowd, and they play stuff from all their records IIRC
Great song, great album.
2 cymbals, 1 left (above high hat) and 1 right. Gene Hoglan is a beast of a drummer
Excellent video guys! I enjoyed very much watching your genuine reaction to this song, and I'm so glad that you found it somewhat beautiful. It is indeed a very emotional and strong piece of music!
I liked the flower analogy, works well in encapsulating what Chuck represents in the darkness of death metal…his message was quite profound if you look past the superficial shock value the name and music style implies. Great reaction, an intelligent analysis that didn’t devolve into ignorant mocking. Thank you for showing respect.
ONE OF THE BEST RIP CHUCK
Death is epic, forefathers, no one was even on the same level when all this was being written, get on Human and Individual Thought Patterns ❤
the strongest opening track on the greatest metal album ever made
That album is one of the best metal albums ever.!!
That's no demon. That's Chuck Schuldiner!
If you guys were to be reading the lyrics of songs like this it would do a lot in terms of the vocals. Often times what is being said/yelled/screamed will fit in with the playing to make what your hearing so much better.
Agreed! We discussed the subject matter after the song
Good ol’ fashioned DEATH
The lyrics give me chills
Favorite band. Rip chuck.
En este álbum podemos escuchar la mejor producción de guitarra ritmica de la historia del rock.
Gene's best shit hands down, insane creativity on this album
Respect Death. Their Legions of Fans are watching you...
Look at them banging their heads to those odd time signatures!
And how nice of them to pronounce "Schuldiner" right. Pretty much nobody does!
I would highly suggest you react to Death - Voice of the soul, it's a real masterpiece
I recommend some classic Swedish death metal, ENTOMBED - Left Hand Path, and then some Norwegian black metal, EMPEROR - The Loss and Curse of Reverence.
Absolute yes to entombed!
Also highly recommend Entombed - Left Hand Path. And Dismember - Like an Everflowing Stream as another great example of the Swedish Death Metal sound
Arcturus - wintry grey. Ulver - anything off the first 3 albums, limbonic art - moon in scorpio, odium - winter palace
Man I fuck with Death heavy. I’m always blasting them in the Raptor going absolutely insane
Please respect him ! He was generating a genre when you were in short pants
You just look the thumbnail, not watch the entire reaction
@dragonballfanscantread2383relax dude, I listen to possessed I love them but unfortunately the vocalist was shot and get downhill on the drugs but then Death is still the best Death Metal band on the planet
@@Crazysummerdayswhy are you making up shit? JEFF NEVER DID DRUGS. GTFO
Listen to ”spirit crusher”, ”lack of comprehension” and ”the philosopher”. Great band.
i like their discography, with songs like "Defensive Personalities", "Within the Mind", "Suicide Machine", "Story to Tell", "A Moment of Clarity", "Trapped in a Corner", "Spiritual Healing". etc.
Classic album ! Simply a must, Cheers!
Brave reaction - you guys need to read the lyrics to the song. They're beautiful talking about the innocence of our childhoods. Listen to the album more with the lyrics - Chuck was a genius songwriter both musically and lyrically. Music like this takes patience to appreciate, it's tough for a first listen. Nobody wrote like Chuck, he was the absolute best.
Death is a band that may need some time to grow on newer listeners. But the band starts off very thrashy and shreddy. And they grow more progressive and technical. Chuck made 8 albums. 7 death metal and the last was a power metal album. But they all lead into one another perfectly. It is a journey i recommend every metalhead at some point take at least once. Hear a kid make B movie horror themed music (still godly) to music about self reflection and life.
No olvidar a Bobby Koelbe, guitarrista de jazz
You guys want to check out more Death, check out "Lack of comprehension" off the album Human.
❣️Symbolic❣️🔥🔥🔥🔥
First time watching this channel. The guy in the middle is obviously the "brains" behind this trio. He seems to articulate well around music. However, Sepultura was not an influence to Death, and this song is nothing like Slayer.
Death was so unique, it paved the way for other subgeneres. Chuck was a pioneer. May he rest in peace ❤️
Haven't listened to this album in probably 20 years; but I used to listen to it all the time.
Yeah man, Death Metal in general is hard to get into at first, but when you find the right band, and right style of Death Metal, you can really dig it. The band DEATH was probably one of, if not the first, true Death Metal band there ever was. As y'all said, they formed in 1984, and put out their first album in 1987 "Scream Bloody Gore" which at the time sounded very raw. (As did a lot of original debut, and even sophomoric albums at the time) They released "Leprosy" in 1988, and it sounded a bit better. They slowed down their tempo a bit, made it chunkier sounding, which started to solidify their sound going forward. But it was their 1990 album "Spiritual Healing" that really hit the mark. And the album that I first heard about them. A fellow schoolmate had the album in our Spanish class, and I checked it out on his Walkman and I put aback by it at first, but the more I listened to it, the more I liked it.
Getting back to Death Metal in general the thing you gotta know or understand is that the vocals really aren't that important. It's the instrumentals. And if you can find a band that is pretty progressive in their song writing, you can tolerate the harshness of the music a bit more rather than if the songs are just a constant wall of sound with blast beats and grunting vocals. Even to this day, as a 37 year long Veteran Metalhead, I still can't get into those really extreme Death Metal bands. I tend to prefer the more melodic and/or progressive Death Metal bands. Bands like DEATH, Dark Tranquillity, Amon Amarth, Norther, Children of Bodom, Bolt Thrower, and Revocation. Revocation is even a bit Thrashy. I've tried a few others, but there's just something about their sound that puts me off. Like I'll listen for guitar tone, vocal tone, and overall speed or beat and if the vibes aren't there, I don't care for it. And that's the way I approach searching for all new bands. If something is off, and it feels like nails on a chalkboard, I don't buy it.
But with DEATH, it was just one of those bands that definitely sounded unique for the time. The metal scene hadn't heard anything like that before. It wasn't until the Floridian Death Metal scene kicked off in the 90s that the genre really took off. A whole bunch of bands popped up in the 90s down there. Out of all of them, and I tried several, only Obituary was the one that I could tolerate. Why? Because they had some of the progressive song writing that DEATH had. I tried Morbid Angel, Cannibal Corpse, and Deicide, and I'll tell ya what, those were acquired tastes for sure. Obituary was just melodic enough that I could listen to and enjoy what they did. Those other bands were nothing but just noise to me.
But anyway, yeah, DEATH albums are all great. Not a bad album, and not too many, if any, bad songs. Their last album "Sound of Perseverance" was probably their best. It had insane song writing on it. It's just ashame Chuck died, because they could have put out who knows how many more albums in the 21st century. But as far as albums go, Chuck's estate put out brand new remasters of all of their albums, except Symbolic (Copyright issue) about 10 years ago now over a period of a few years, and they sound fantastic. Even the debut album sounds pretty decent.
Listen to Misfire the band. They have the vibe I assure you
Toward the end of Chucks life he was actually promoting and working on his newest band "Control Denied". Chuck only played guitar with his new band and Tim Aymar was the vocalist. Sadly Control Denied were only able to release one album "Fragile Art of Existence" before Chuck's death. Control Denied's sound was a lot cleaner/melodic than Death was. You should really check any of the songs off of that album, "Consumed" "The Fragile Art Of Existence" or "Breaking The Broken"
Hey guys! I see stank face ..lol
They’re name is where death metal took its name
you guys groovin'
My favorite song
btw. If you want, I'll make you a list of metal music that everyone should listen to if they want to have a cross-section of metal music (I will skip extreme genres or extreme bands altogether). It's enough that you want such a list (maybe it's better after Christmas), I don't know if I can make it in time.
Let me know.
Sry for a double post. it's a theme refresh 🤣
THE riff!
I came across this video and had to watch because my man on the left is wearing Vikings gear. SKOL VIKINGS! And yeah, Death is definitely one of the pioneering bands of death metal. Check out the band Carcass...song "Reek of Putrefaction".
I think the most important thing to remember about this song is it's from 1995. Think about music from that time: TLC's Waterfalls and Coolio's Gangster's Paradise were top hits that year. This was such a stark contrast to all of that. 1995! We didn't even have Nintendo 64 yet!!!
That outro effect is the snare hit played backwards. [Edit] sorry let me clarify, that didn't answer anything. The recording of the snare hit is played backwards. Gene Hoglan rules.
DEATH is better than all the bands you compared them to lmao
Totally agree!
100% agreed
Drums are straight 🔥
There's a good reason the genre is called Death Metal. You're listening to the reason.
RIP Chuck! Check out "Spirit Crusher"
This album is dope. Human is my personal fav
In metal the "singing" is there to get the message across and is somewhat disconnected from the music. It's more as an emotional state where the music is the real star and provides the nuances.
I didnt knew Serge Gnabry had a reaction Chanel
MASTER PIECE !!!!
Guys. VEKTOR- TETRASTRUCTURAL MINDS
No disrespect to Gene Hoglan, but the drums on "The Sound Of Perseverance" are even crazier sometimes. Almost unhinged even.
That's because it's Richard christy playing.
He's alot more technical than Hoglan.
Richard Christy may be one of my favorite metal drummers period for the performances on that album.
It is just everything metal drumming ought to be in my book. Fiercely technical and fast-paced without ever sacrificing groove. Basically, going 200mph down the freeway, ducking traffic left and right... and the whole time it feels like the wheels are about to fall off. But they never do. And you just barely squeeze through every vanishing gap in perfect time. A terrifying display of skill and an unforgettable ride. If it doesn't feel like the walls are about to fall out, you need to let the beast out.
1995 Death Symbolic Childhood, nothing else to comment
Death rips! RIP CHUCK
I just see 3 bobbleheads hahah
Guy on the left just sucking up the groove ...

the symbolic was ok,1991 album "human" was a gamechanger in metal.check this stuff
Besides Atheist they're are godfathers of Death metal in myvbook
Gojira by its sound and song structure would be progressive death metal but the lyrics are more in line with establishment narratives about the environment. And actually your comment at 4:30 goes for anyone lol any death metal fan hears Chuck and they know his high pitched “velociraptor” scream from anyone else’s.
Machine gun drummer 🤘
I search for reactions to Death all the time and you guys did a great job. Please check out the band HaVoK. They are carrying the thrash metal torch and you’d enjoy em. Intention to deceive or hang ‘em high.
