What’s poppin, Kaiju? It’s me MT and welcome back to the Heavy Spoilers Show! And I hope y’all like humans dealing with dinosaur trauma because this is a breakdown of the Godzilla movie from 2014…a whole decade ago! Can you believe that? That’s the year I graduated college and began my life of crippling debt! Good times. But anyways, let’s make like Godzilla and take a big ole bite into this monster of a breakdown, shall we? (Possibly retool)

Anyways, the Godzilla opens up with what appears to be an early cave wall depicting of Godzilla himself…as this creature was drawn with Godzilla’s scaly back. Then immediately following this is ancient imagery of what appears to be a group of Christian men doing some sort of cermony of the back of a giant fish.

I remember when this movie came out so many people were complaining that there was not enough Godzilla in it. I loved it and liked that the director did not show him off too much. But enough to keep us off our toes when we hear that iconic roar. The cast was great and utilized very well in this movie cuz often in monster movies the human cast can be meh.
This is getting me geared up for GxK soon. Great work.

I feel the MUTOs are extremely underrated kaiju I love there designs and status of a predator to Godzilla and his species makes them so interesting

I do love this film. There are some things I have issues with, like killing Bryan Cranston's character off in the first 20 minutes, how overly dark a lot of the film was, and wanting Godzilla to have a little more screen time. However scenes like that one when the male Muto is rampaging at the airport in Honolulu and everyone inside the airport running around screaming and shouting, then Godzilla's monumental foot comes down in front of the window and all the screaming stops. Gives me chills every time.

Hell yeah, as I am very old I used to go downtown on Saturdays where one theatre always had what I called Japanese Stompers playing for the matinee.
With this movie, Shin Godzilla, the Monarch-verse and now Gojira minus one it warms my old as heart to no end. Many i love these movies…we don’t talk about the abomination that shall not be named.
Thank you MT & Heavy Spoilers for the breakdown. I do want to point out one thing that you missed, mainly because I really like this movie but it cracks me up every time I watch it => the epic turn that Godzilla did in the gloom, smoke, & fog straight out of a Kurosawa film right before the fight starts in Chinatown.
I know city layout isn't really discussed in movies much, and for all intents and purposes it's hand-waved away. However. The amount of shit that San Francisco and New York go through, while both being relatively small is hilarious. For instance, the Golden Gate Bridge goes to Marin rather than Oakland, right? But the docks? Most of the wharves close to Chinatown are under the Bay Bridge ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE CITY! They'd have to go to Lands End to get to a pier that would lead to open ocean. I know SF is only 7x7 square miles, but when the guys picked up the warhead and were going to hoof it from Chinatown to the docks, I turned to my roommate and went, wonder what hills he's going to with.

One of the best Godzilla movies ever made. Compelling human characters, great dialogue, fantastic directing, spectacular monster scenes, and a satisfying ending.

I feel like this movie from 2014 is more in line with Godzilla Minus One, and they even mention G Day Minus One throughout Monarch. The newer films feel like a cheesy MCU style of bright colors and forgettable dialog

I always found it dumb how this movie used the term MUTO as a catch-all term for any and all giant monsters, but then the next movie just straight-up retcons it to instead be the specific name of just the giant bug creatures.
They should do a crossover with Cloverfield ,Godzilla and kong
I really liked that they called back the Bikini Atoll explosions in the Monarch series that they referenced at 13:38 in this video. That’s some MCU level Easter egging right there!
Godzilla was originally a metaphor/reference to the destruction caused by atomic weapons
there was also a reference to Bikini Atoll in Godzilla Minus One.

I think any of those other choices would have been better than Aaron Taylor Johnson. He's fine as Quicksilver because he doesn't get many speaking lines but all those other actors are much better for a role like this.

NGL, I fell asleep on this Godzilla movie. Prior to this, the only Godzilla movie I’d seen was the 1998 movie with Matthew Broderick, which was a much better movie IMO. But I’ve enjoyed every movie in MonsterVerse after the 2014 installment.

Godzilla isn't a dinosaur or a reptile of any kind he and the other monsters of the Godzilla universe are creatures that existed on the earth when the earth was molten and was highly radioactive. But when the earth began to cool and the radiation began to drop they burrow themselves deep into the earth's crust where it was still molten and radioactive. Only surfacing occasionally. But after the atomic bombing of Japan was Godzilla awaken. Not by the blast but by the radiation Godzilla and other monsters in the Godzilla universe are able to detect radiation from thousands of miles away.
Its a shame that Gareth Edwards made an amazing, thrilling, suspenseful monster movie and people disregard it just because Godzilla wasn't in it that much.
Dude people disregard alot of godzilla films regardless of their quality, Gareth isn't the only one. This movie ain't the only G film with mixed reactions from fans

You got some information wrong right at the beginning as species don't evolve in less then a millions of years with godzilla species predating humanity by well a lot.
