i remember helping teach/conduct a class she took in college, Writing For The Stage, which students would have to submit One-Act plays every week which the whole class would act out. she was so charged up, vivacious and exuberant-- just a wonderful student/participant. she would write such hilarious scripts and her acting was also marvelous and off the proverbial hook. i knew she was destined for greatness and yet she was always humble, graceful, and so down to earth. Corey Linstrom I agree. If you read any of Amanda's social media she loves a lot of modern popular artists non-ironically. I remember her old blog she cited an Avril Lavigne album as one of her inspirations for her music :P

If you watched Lana Del Ray's interview, she explained this song and the lyrics. At the time when she wrote it, her career was going nowhere and she decided to live in the moment with the person she was in relationship with, this song wasn't meant to be sad. I guess it only comes off as sad because of the style it is sung and because that relationship didn't work. It's sort of a melancholy of the past.
The for and against folks...perhaps she did this version for *gasp* fun!? I love to sing songs and change them up a bit. Amanda looks like she's just enjoying herself singing and playing. I personally enjoyed this version and enjoy Del Rey's version as well.

I dunno. There's also the interpretation of real love and devotion, and willing subservience--there's something to be said for that overwhelming love that makes you willing to do anything for someone. It doesn't necessarily indicate total self-sacrifice.

No, Amanda's not a snob. She's had songs with less complicated piano parts in it... Also I do believe that Lana Del Rey is the best thing in mainstream pop music for a long time!
Why are people tripping over themselves to proclaim their allegiance to Amanda's version over Lana? I love both of them and I wish people would stop pitting women against each other, particularly in the music industry. Understandable in this instance since it's a cover, but it gets tiresome in general. I would appreciate seeing both of these ladies at the same show!
And I get the impression that Amanda's actually giving a nod to Lana. Not a "fuck you" lol. We could all take note

If you are talking about Amand Fucking Palmer then I recall reading in some blog-like post of hers on her site that ever since she first heard Lana Del Ray sing it she thought of doing a cover of it with her hands tied. So, more or less on a whim, she did it.
Or something like that. I can't be arsed to google the post to give you a word-by-word version. But basically what's with her is that she's as FAR from awkward as anyone can ever be - awkward is when you're ashamed toots :)

This is much better than Lana Del Ray, personally I believe she only got so far based on the way she looks, not talent. Amanda has shown so much more talent and has done everything herself. I bet LDR didn't even write that song!

I'm guessing she's satirizing the lyrics of the song... It's a beautiful song for sure, and I like Lana's version too, but the lyrics are really disturbing! A woman defining herself completely in terms of a man, measuring the entire worth of her life by her relationship, and desperately doing anything the man wants to cling to his love? The woman in the song has really imprisoned herself in a miserable existence, like Amanda with her bound wrists and depressed, blank expression.
I guess I don't get the bound wrists. Or any of it, really.
