a rainy summers day in england: new recipes, baking, books & a life update

- A cosy summer home vlog, lasagne soup, book updates, countryside walks and a little life update for you. lots of love x
Lasagne soup recipe:
150g pasta of choice
1 can of chopped tomatoes
1 onion
1 whole garlic
1 carrot
1 celery stick
small handful of fresh thyme
800ml veg stock
handful of sun-dried tomatoes
large handful of cavolo nero (or veg of choice)
season with salt, pepper and chilli flakes to taste
Chickpeas fried separately:
1 can of chickpeas
1/2 tbsp of harissa
1/2 tsp celery salt
Method:
Cook onion, garlic, carrot, celery for 15 minutes until soft before adding in the other ingredients, allow to simmer for 15 minutes before blending. Then add in pasta to cook and veggies at the end for a few minutes. Top with the chickpeas and vegan parmesan.
Rhubarb crumble recipe:
300g rhubarb
2 apples
3 tbsp coconut sugar
125g rolled oats
125g plain flour
3 tbsp olive oil
4 tbsp of maple syrup

Bridgerton season 2 is AMAZING. I think the writing and the storyline was stronger, and I loved the chemistry between the leads. I say it's worth the watch!!
I think season 2 may be my fav tbh, I loved season 3 but Kate and Anthony storyline is just *chefs kiss*
I'm a vegan and will be trying that soup😀! I live with an unwell husband, cooking and cleaning up is a lot. But somehow we women find the strength. Supporting you in great strength! 💛

I really enjoyed your synopsis of A Little Life and your thoughts on it - I do think some people sadly go through something close to that in real life, but unlike the novel, it does not always come along with the same exceptional highs. Have you thought about starting a virtual book club? Would love to hear you talk more in-depth about your reads!

Bridgerton Season 1 will forever be my fav - although S2 ist pretty good. S3 didn’t catch me. Because I know the books and it was so different
I really disliked A Little Life, actually! I found the characters extremely unbelievable and hated how the story spanned about 50 years but their thought processes and personalities didn’t change whatsoever. Also, there were almost no female characters?
I thought Jude had absolutely no personality other than his disability, and Yanagihara also made no effort to research the disabilities Jude had, nor the intricacies of abuse, and it shows. To me it essentially felt like Yanagihara got a sadistic kick out of writing it. You end up desensitised to any sort of abuse by the end.
I'm pretty sure that she also is very against therapy and thinks that some people just can't and won't get better. Lots of videos about it online
To stand with the cause, you must have humanity and honor because it is an honorable case, so I say all this talk
I have a Bichon Frise. I rescued her in 2021. She was 7 then. She got groomed every 6 to 8 weeks, but with each grooming, she got kennel cough within a few days even though she was up-to-date on her bordatella. The last stroke, she not only got kennel cough, but she also got canine flu. For the last episode, she was on steroids and antibiotics that had to be refilled 4 times. It took almost 5 months for the coughing to finally disappear. So in01/2023, I decided to groom her myself because I didn't want her getting sick constantly. I watched a lot of YT videos to learn how to groom a Bichon. No more kennel cough after that and a peace of mind knowing she won't be exposed to potentially abusive groomers. Your dog doesn't need the kind of grooming that a Bichon requires with a double coat and curly hair. Yours will just need minor coat and nails trimming. I betcha you can do it yourself for peace of mind from potential abusive groomers.

I’m so glad that you read and liked A Little Life. I’m like you where I put it off for ages because of all the negative hype surrounding the emotional toll it would take. But I’m glad that I read it. I agree with you about the never ending trauma to one character seeming unrealistic, although it does make the ending event more surprising I think. I mostly didn’t cry either except for the big event close to the end. That was somewhat heartbreaking. I enjoyed feeling like I had come to understand and know the characters. Great choice!

Yes! All seasons of Brigerton are sooo worth watching! I was also very sceptical about watching the rest of it until my friend talked me into it. Surprisingly I loved season 3 and Bridgerton Queen Charlotte. The one about Queen Charlotte was so sad but so beautiful, I cried a little at the end 🥺

Currently making my way through a few of your videos this eve 😊 With the thyme you could tear it in half, or even thirds, and pop each into a terracotta pot with a little bit of compost. Then you can keep one inside and the move the others outside as they grow all year around x
Hi Hannah , I just lost my dog sadly ... I used to buy him dry food from Millies Wolfheart. I would highly highly recommend it although it's not vegan they contain no grains. 60 to 80% of meat and the rest only veggies ..I know you are vegan yourself but animals usually are not vegan (also sharing for others) it's by FAR the highest quality I found (royal canin only 20% of meat and full of grains) and it's a Yorkshire company , I like to support small businesses and they deserve to get known ❤ the price is really good as well. Hope you are coping ok without your fiancé . Sending all the love ❤❤❤

The second season of Bridgerton is my favourite, definitely worth watching. Season 3 was just okay for me and I won’t be watching Season 4. I was annoyed too that one of the main characters in Season 1 wouldn’t be in the next series but you get caught up in the next story anyway. That soup looked so good!

As for Bridgerton - I've watched all three and after watching the third, feel like I wish I had just stopped after the first one. I think they had the "magic" in season one and have progressively gotten less so.

A Little Life is also one of the best books I have read. You gave a really good synopsis of it. I find it hard to recommend to people as I feel I have to say “just so you know, nothing good happens in this book”. It is so worth reading though and like you say, it is refreshing. With regards all of that happening to one person, i did think that too but life doesn’t always work out for everyone and life is just too much for some people. I will never forget the characters. Brilliantly written.
