Hi, Technician didn't apply these drops and assembled this dry, but added the diff oil later on. Would you please tell if this would kill my clutches? Thanks!
No, youre supposed to upgrade to the trac loc. Based on the price, id spend the little bit more money and get the eaton lsd that doesnt use clutches. Then you dont need to worry about them wearing out or having the right amount of friction modifier. The dana 80 trac loc rebuild is a lot more money than the 60/70... Pretty much everything is a lot more for the 80 im finding out.
Are the carriers the same size for the 60 & 70? I have a 60 but, I’m looking putting a posi in my 86 Chevy c30 with a 70hd ? Just asking. Thanks for you help!
I’ve got a 82 dodge d-350 dually with the 360 in it with the 727 with no overdrive and 4.10 gears and low profile tires I’m changing the rear end gears to a 3.54 I really would like to change everything inside the bearings and such but I really can’t afford it so just hoping that all is good inside
Hey man would you happen to know what bearings i would need I’m looking to replace the inside pinion bearing is that all I need so I don’t have to take off the old one the drive shaft has no play at the rear end so I believe the outside bearings are okay
I can smell the limited slip additive through my monitor.. 😂😂 I put one of these in the front end of my 68 f250 high boy. I haven't really tested it yet, but its fun driving it on the street with hub locked in lol
@@CUTTERUPROB Sound good! Thanks for the confirmation. FWIW, had my PL installed in the back of my Scout about 30 years ago. And I had my mechanic replace the clutches about 10-12 years ago. I figure the next time around I might tackle it myself. Also, best oil I've found for it is Redline's regular differential oil. 75w90, the version that come with the additive already in it. Works better than any combo of GL5 + additive that I've tried before. By works better, I mean absolutely zero chatter, ever, on the street. And it provides great traction in sand etc.
I have to fully rebuild my Dana 70 and I don’t know what brand to use. Is Yukon any good anymore? I’ve heard they have gotten really cheap and the parts don’t last anymore. Is that true or are they still trustworthy?
@@CUTTERUPROB I have been given a Dana 60 power lok for the front of my 97 Cummins. It has the 35 spline side gears. Would you happen to have 30s around???
You removed and replaced more than one component - so I'm lost! Ha! Two questions though: • If you're rebuilding this unit, then how come new carrier bearings weren't replaced as well? The other is: • Does it matter whether-or-not you use a specific pattern to torque those bolts, or can you just walk around like you did in this video? Ok, guess I lied - one more question: • In YOUR opinion - does it matter that you used assembly lube on those threads before torquing them, as a lot of sources say torquing something with lube can or will lead to over-torquing the fastener. Thanks for sharing this content! Hope you have an AWESOME (and safe) 4th of July! 👊
I put new bearings on it was just in time lapse. I use lube on just about everything with a thread. I would rather have over torqued then messed up threads.
👍👍 right on feller...have a good day 👊
Thanks for posting that Rob 👍
No complaints about noises or the rain from me...y'all need the rain...esp southern Canada
Appreciate the content 👍
Keep it coming.
Great video

Thanks for ur videos. Are the early 2nd gen dana 80 pwr lok (not the later trac lok they call a pwr lok) rebuild parts available?
They used to be. So i can’t see why they wouldn’t be still
What year is your 2nd gen?

Hey @cutteruprob do you know if the internal nest on a d70 will fit a d80 power lok? Both 35spl obviously
Excellent

I rebuilt one of these for an 8 3/4" axle. It galls one oned of the clutches almost imediately and the other side is fine. Any idea why?
Is this procedure any different for the D44 Powr-Loks? (Talking about the original Dana-made Powr-Loks.)
Same process

If someone runs a different sized tire on one side than the other then it will flat trash the limited slip clutches.
That is true. I guess that could have been the killer of it

I have always use Detroit true tracs
But been a few year since I bought one
Is that a power lock?
Yep
