Your attitude and approach towards this challenge is the biggest lesson in this video.
An inspiration to the more childish and angry wrenching attitude which is easy to have when challenges go beyond your limits of ability or understanding.
Thanks for the support. This lifestyle is already a blessing having the means to spend money on luxuries like this. I have to remember that when I get frustrated. It'll work out one way or another
Just a heads up for anyone else, this axle is also in the 89-mid91 first gen diesel rams with automatics. The dodge version is known as the 70-2UA
What Calipers did you use for the conversion? Thank you! Or a part number?
A full floater is good but if you break a axel you really shouldn't leave the broken piece in there so if it breaks at the splines it's not just pull the axel but once you get it out you can drive out
exactly, you could pull both easily and get it drive-able quickly.
Love the videos. Where did you learn to do the ring and pinion set up? I have several projects that are on hold at this stage.
Thanks dude! I just messed around until I got a good pattern. It's not hard, just tedious. If your experienced you know where to start with shims which saves a lot of time. I'm not great at it, that's why I ask my buddy to help. He's good at it.
Nice taste in Vans man. I have the same ones. Actually 2 pair. One junk pair and one nice pair.
Thanks dude! These ones are nice bit I never wear them so I said screw it. Garage slippers!
Did you replace the flange bolts that hold the axle shafts in? If so do you by chance have a part number? Thank you
I did but I just switched to grade 8 from the hardware store.
By chance can you share the part # for the wheel studs. I have a 1997 dodge Dana 70 that came with the disc brake conversion and need to replace a couple studs due to heavy rust
610-194.1
Sorry for all the questions. Do you have part numbers for the rotors and calipers you used? Thank you so much! I’m having a hard time finding a rotor that will fit over the hub
I don't they are from the lugnut 4x4 kit
No problem. Thank you
Fricken safety mustache heck! I in club "would have scrapped it and bought the right axle" but im curious to see what the wizard jantz can come up with
I am still on the fence. I hope he can save the project! 🤞🏻
man, here i am wanting samurai width toyotas and youre going full tons!
I'm sure I'll regret the width at times! There are times when I just barely squeeze by in Sammy now!
Carl is awesome.
I have a danq 70 sitting in my backyard in an old E350. Would you recommend using this on a rock crawler? Thanks
I'm no expert on the dana 70. If it's a 3-HD... then no. Pretty much any other variant should work
@@FortuneOffRoad alright thanks for the response 👍
I am really interested what comes of this build. I have a 66 Bronco that I put the 3hd axle in and have regretted it.
Me too! I'll make another video when I make some progress. 🤙🏻
What year make and model are your disk brakes and calipers? Thank you
JB6 3/4 ton truck brake calipers with 12.5" 3/4 ton GM rotors
Wow man what a project. Hope it works our right! :)
Thanks dude!
Do you have a part number for the studs you used?
Dorman 610-194.1
Your engine with those gears is gonna scream dude. Hope to see the engine build. Go Sam Houston.
I hope it does scream, that means I'm rolling!
Looking at buying a dana 70 and it has a 3.07 ratio. I saw somewhere that means it's the bad one. But even if it is a 4.10 would work for me. Are you sure that ratio is an option?
Dana 70s are one of the worst axles to research. They all have something different about them, and if you get the wrong offset pinion may be offset or have small dana 60 sized bearings. Best bet is to find one built or ask someone who has successfully built one and ask what year/make/model its out of.
What Dana 70 is this with the issues? I just came into possession of set of axles from a 98’ dodge 2500 for free from a friend. He told me they were d60 front d70 rear?
This is the Dana 70-3HD. Pretty much the only 70 you don't want. Came out of a 1980ish C30
I hate mine. The hub and rotor is pressed in together… 😢
😓
How much did you pay for a Dana 60? I just gave a whole nice 2000 dodge 2500 to Pick’n Pull for $180.
Man! Wish I could locate one for that! I picked up a Chevy Dana 60 Kingpin for $2400... going rate in my area 😬
So the 38 horse power, 1200 lbs sammy is getting 1 tons and the YJ is getting 1/2 ton upgrades? ...ok. Sucks about your D70, people suck. I guess it's a lesson for you and your viewers on knowing what you're buying. Do you know what vehicle the axle to avoid comes from.
Correct! The Samurai needs the gearing offered by the 1 tons and the strength of stock axles. The Jeep came with 1/2 ton axles so I'm upgrading what we have. New shafts are warranteed up to a 40". Jeep is a trail rig, Samurai will be a dedicated rock crawler. I don't know the vehicle to avoid, but I think they are on the rare side. Not a lot of info on them.
You sure do have a lot of bird poo on your hoodie bro, what's going on there?
Dive bombers everywhere!
