Amazing interior. My favourite part though, the wheels. I would get someone to 3D scan the rear bumper to have a digital back up of it. It would be a shame if that was damaged and couldn't be reproduced because of a lack of record.
❤ Man, I forgot all about that car I remember working on it. It’s cool to see that you’re able to bring things back to life Jamie, loving your videos and enjoying what you bring to the table brother😊
Awesome. I was lucky to see that back in 2006. Also brings back good memories of the crazy three months when i was part of the team building the 2005 VW SEMA cars when i work at HPA. Definitely was a special time back then in the VW scene.
Seriously thank you for bringing such great detailed content involving VWs, to UA-cam! Please keep them coming. Love to see what else VW has been hiding!
If someone sold a roll cage setup like that and those seat mounts I'd buy them. Love that the bumper is Aluminum, a body kit company should make a line of aluminum bumpers.
As a german and former MK5 Golf owner this is what I very much envy you for: The thunderbunny and TDI Cup bumpers look so cool and its such a shame they were never sold at a bigger scale ...
Awesome piece of VW history. I am also surprised the mk5 is this old already! I also recall this R GTI being featured in Eurotuner magazine in the front cover (if not mistaken).
Amazing work as always Jamie! Love your passion for this brand! Also, I need a set of those 17" Sebrings from the poster on your wall... those are amazing.
@@JamieOrr WOW, WOW, JUST WOW, thank you for this, I am in europe but I start to google SEMA VW evry year from 2006 becouse of this, it was dream for me, also Passat R-GT, Jetta R- GT... From now I will check yourYT evry day, and becouse of others VW stuff, thnx bro.
Hi Jamie,Im such a big Mk5 fan, keep the tint on pls,its makes the car look menacing, nice to see one of South Africa's specials in the background up on the lift, tge blue 'Citi' mk1 golf originating from the Johannesburg area as the number plate indicates.
First, find out why the wheels stick out further on one side. Second, fix the headliner. Third, leave the rest of it alone. This is a one-off GTI, and deserves to be cherished. Thanks again, RickGTI…..🇺🇸🌴
Agreed! Someone else made the very commonsense suggestion that the car has two back wheels on one side, and two front wheels on the other side, which I had absolutely not thought of, but it sounds like a very reasonable explanation. As well as your perfect suggestions, the big thing is maintenance, it needs a full service to be safe and back on the road :-)
Such a truly mind blowing concept! I miss my mk5 everyday… wish people knew how to yield on a left turn… it was my first car and now I’ve upgraded to a mk7, got bite by the VW bug and now I can’t resist it. I wish I could sit in that back seat
@@JamieOrr good luck fixing that front and can't wait to see it. Also, whoever made that rear bumper i would love to see what other things they've created
It’s probably not the case but are you sure the reason the drivers front wheel is stuck out more than the other isn’t because that wheel is supposed to be a rear wheel and one on the rear is supposed to be on the front because I’d assume having custom wheels its likely that it’s got different offsets front and rear I mean I’m sure that’s not the case but anyway looks like it’s going to be a cool project
I agree about the beautiful interior being shown off! Might I suggest doing a clear film, like LLUMAR’s Air80 instead? It’s an almost clear ceramic film that will help protect the interior from harmful UV and has great heat rejection, considering there’s no charcoal color to it.
I wouldn’t worry too much about the front wheels, it’s pretty common for the time as there’s some mechanical wiggle room for each car when it comes off the assembly line. My Mk5 has something similar, drives mint! No issues. As long as the car isn’t pulling to one side, you should be fine. Hope this helps
I remember seeing a piece of those cars in a show report in a magazine PVW maybe? Or maybe it was another? I remember a golf and jetta both with custom exterior and all around concept cars
I remember pissing my friends off for adding an extra 2 hours to SF to LA road trip to drive by that place. I don't recall the year, 92/93 maybe, there was an abundance of MK3's Golf's in the parking lot. First time laying my eyes on them outside of a magazine. I don't remember the exact location of the facility, could have been different from what was discussed here, but it was north of Los Angeles which is where Oxnard is.
Vw is love everyone and their availability of the old models in good conditions have a strong second hand market, sadly the price hasn't dropped as much as we've wanted them to be. Even a shit box like mk2 are still a bit expensive on South Africa.
Honestly the colour on the brakes i'm not a fan of but honestly I'd argue those wheels haven't aged well at all, not a fan tbh way too obscure. Should have just gone multi spoke bbs wheels, would have tied it together better.
2:04 I'm a jdm guy cause of the euro car connection to Hitler... But vw had a design team in Oxnard? Full of what? Raza? Im gonna think of that as the 'Cape Canaveral' in the car world now...
My mk5 just passed 250k miles. She’s still going strong! This thing is a time capsule!
Damn, my mk2 only has 70K.
That things a beaut, and I’m glad to see that the saggy headliner issue is standard lol; thought it was just me.
It’s VW standard equipment by now.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Mine doesn't have a saggy headliner and it is a 2005 GTI, never even heard of this problem😅
@@indyvanborren1463 you just jinxed yourself

That interior, my lord. People with those "ISO-fix" cages should take notes, I hate those but i LOVE this!
Except he had the classic VW droopy headliner lol my MK6 is a victim of it.
❤ Man, I forgot all about that car I remember working on it. It’s cool to see that you’re able to bring things back to life Jamie, loving your videos and enjoying what you bring to the table brother😊
For me MK5 is the most beautiful Golf model! Hi from Brazil!
Obrigada! Olá para o Brasil!

Very cool historical car. The interior work with those rear seats is just next level. Just stunning.
Wicked video. At 1:39 I am in the video on the passenger side rear of the white R-GT Passat at its unveiling!!!! :)
I love the car, but I love this content more. This is 1 million sub worthy content, I can't believe how underrated this channel is

@@JamieOrr That was my first thought they may be staggered alloys, the wheel sticking out could be the spare
The Thunder Bunny came out along with it . This car is the reason I purchased my MKV GTI back in 2007
Any chance of getting the GTI W12-650?! Would love to see that
I love that it has a saggy OE headliner. MK5 things. The rest of the car is absolutely amazing!
Ricordo nel 2006 quando uscì la rgti, e sono felice di rivederla dopo 16 anni. Bravo jamie che l’hai salvata 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻 amo questa macchina

Had a poster of this car , I think it was from an issue of PVW. The reverse side was the mk5 white rocket bunny
Awesome Jamie!! Hopefully you can make those connections and and make all this come full circle.
this brings back memories ... ty for sharing
Love if you get the designers of this back as well as the 2005 version of that car as well, so yeah
Love the G40 behind you 😍😍 is it one with the original Russell lader ??

I wish they had kept GTI as their flagship marque
Great video as always!
I wanna see this car one day! So cool...
Okay, I love the sheer whimsy of the German flag brake calipers. That's what it is to me: whimsy. Such a cool car.
Indeed, haha. Eloquently put, as always 😃
That's crazy you have that car! Lots of similarities to MK6 R. You should put them side by side.
man i must be getting old... i feel like these cars still look new to me...
Looking forward to seeing you at euro 22 on Sunday!
Thanks for sharing! Is it still front wheel drive?
I remember seeing that in eurotuner mag. too, back in the day.
So Cool

Jamie would you consider getting that bumper 3D scanned so it could be replicated by others?
That front bumper is beautiful
He doesn’t own it unfortunately so doubt that’s possible but be cool if it was

Dude Jamie, Are you the guy in pottstown that has the Big green VW Utility truck?? I always see it on the way to my moms.
Those wheels are great!
Very nice 🤙🏽
Where did you get the blue citi golf from? That's from S.A.
so sick
Do you own this car now? I remember drooling over this car back when I saw it in Eurotuner.
VWOA owns it still, I get to be custodian :-)
Piece of video yes sir. I'm sure you're going to leave it better than in the presentation, but how do those 400 hp sound?
Amazing car
Nice, we need some audi reviews Jamie!
Sick mk5 🤙
Nice piece of history for VW enthusiast!! Could you start the engine and show how It sounds?? Good job
Remind me of the S3 8L arch detail
Have to bring it down to WITW 🙌

this is going to be sick.
Is this a full AWD ? If it is there will be more tricks and treats there.
Hope so
Saveiro! Uauuu!
wow the mk5 r32 was my favourite golf, not anymore, I love this, 4wd??
as a wv user, its incredible that they still dont know how to do a headliner
Please replace the timing chain as well .... I have seen lot of GTI gone for that chain under the fuel pump/vacuum pump cover ...
Take my money I need it
im so dead outta everything that could be fucked up OF COURSE ITS THE HEADLINER

Jamie orr how u get so lucky to get that. Now u just need a golf rally. Lol..
Really don’t No why the MK5 gti gets so much hate.. I absolutely love my mk5 gti And yes I know this Mk5 is a different beast but just saying
Bring it to waterfest
What did you pay for it Jamie ?
So no one is gonna comment on the hoodie? I need it 👀👀
Since it's a R GTI, you'd expect it to have a VR6....
this is how a mk5 shouldve been
So, wait. You own a concept car now?
I thought the original R GTI was a DSG.
