This environment and it's colour palette is completely different to what MK3 ended up as, I can see why they didn't end up using it. This does clash with the rest of the stage environments. Nonetheless this very cool and interesting.
That’s crazy…unreleased. Is it me or did they really bring that stage out in (Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3) *Scorpion Lair*, because if you look at the back layout it looks similar to Scorpion’s Lair in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 ?

I can see a Christmas tree on the SNL TV, so this presumably might have been during December 1993? I don't think Comedy Central had the rights to air reruns at that point yet. Looks way too early for it to be 1994.
@@AnEternalEnigma i did some investigating and it was deff December, the christmas tree and red flowers-It was Dec 11th 1993 and Sally Field was host. I cant believe they had mocap for Jax and SZ this early in Mk3's dev!
It really makes you think: just how much is there in the source code of arcade MK3 that we don't know of yet? technically, MK3's source code on consoles was leaked, but unlike MK2, we still don't have the original source code, I really hope one day we'll get to see all of the mysteries that arcade MK3 as well as MK4 have inside of them.
The 3D0 and PSX Source code for MK3 / Ultimate / Trilogy was leaked and it's all C-based, meaning that there's probably not that many differences to the arcade source code either way. In fact, it's even funnier because Trilogy is built on top of UMK3 files (you can see the headers saying MK3 and UMK3, making it the true "last revision" for MK3 unofficially.
It could be my impression, but it seems that both JAX and Sub-Zero sprites have the same size as MK2. If it had continued like this, it would have been animal (we know that MK2 characters have a larger size and definition than MK3)
Wow this was probably from the earliest build of MK3. I think the hud is also from MK2 or a place holder version. So what do you think the wip name of this stage was? The Cave, The Cavern. This stage will live on as a Mugen stage lol
So cool! I love the stage but I understand why it didn't stay. It doesn't really go with the vibe of MK3 but I still like it! Very exciting footage thanks

Probably MK3 was made on the basis of MK2, I don't know if it's my impression, but it seems that the Sprites of the characters despite being already updated from MK3, they still have the size of MK2. We know that MK3 characters' Sprites are inferior and smaller than MK2
@@thyagoMS Wow seriously, they have lower resolution? Strange, I always thought the opposite that sprites in MK3 are better than MK2 (or at least the same).

@@thyagoMS Thanks. This is all I really have. I've commented elsewhere that I *did* used to have a brief clip of the proto-MK concept with the sprites of Van Damme but while trying to locate it recently (translation: fast forwarding through boxes of old video tapes) I think it was lost. Good question with Ed. I know we recorded a lot of things back in the day (hey, it was the 90s and that was the thing) but him having the time to locate and release anything is a bit of a stretch. @@lancepage1914 Yes, that was a consideration. Really awesome stage. I can understand why they scrapped it though, as the game was going for a more Urban look, this stage would have felt out of place.
Seeing this now after all these decades is like seeing MK3 from an alternate universe.
Another timeline perhaps?
Call Lord Liu Kang most likely he can take you there 👍
