I got to see Nez perform about a year or two before he passed. Just he and his slide guitarist, no Monkees songs, just Mike doing the music he wanted to do. It was fantastic.
Love Nez. When I was 9 years old, listening to my only Monkees Album, my favorite two songs were always the B-side ones that were written, and sung my Michael. Something about his sound that was so unique. Of course today I now know he was sneaking in Rockabilly to the late 60s audience. Even today at age 58, his voice, and music still stops me in my tracks, and I have to listen. I was so thrilled to see how Nez's Tapioca Tundra was given some great montage airtime on Better Call Saul. A perfect fit.
For someone so good, he never took himself or his career very seriously, he always seemed to be dragged reluctantly into performing. He was missing a certain gene to promote himself, but maybe that clever humility was part of his immense charm.
It's a shame that Joanne from this show is locked up in copyright conflict and no longer available. John Jorgenson's solo was so, so wonderful that night. Breaks my heart not to get ti hear it again
@@hadji828 Good of you to offer, but no need to risk your account. There's no telling how the rights chain works for ACL; from what I could find, an MTV subsidiary actually has rights to old seasons.

He had a vast number of songs to select from! I need to count to put up the total of albums he made
This is a gem; a great period in time of Mike's life!!! Jon Jorgenson is so good on guitar! Red Rhodes..all great.
Mike was my favorite Monkee. May he, Davy and Peter forever rest in peace.
Gotta say me too but I loved them all.
He was so much more than the Monkeez-RIP Nez thanks for the memories
Standing ovation- well deserved...BLESS...RIP - a true genius...Kim & Larry
One of the best performances I've ever seen. And I've seen him perform a lot. Heaven. Miss you, Nez. Thanks for the ride.
I was in the audience that night, loved Nez. RIP.

Nice to see him younger, stronger, energetic

one of the great things about living in this age is even though a person passes on we can still enjoy recordings like this, RIP
Michael was legit, creative and talented.

Nez (and Jorgenson, et al) did a great job with Joanne at the 1992 Britt Festival: ua-cam.com/video/9ZiHjmE-5BI/v-deo.html

Nesmith's appearance on ACL is one my favs, thanks for posting this excerpt.
R.I.P. Jeez, I wish this whole show were readily available.
I know I’ve seen it on here before. It must’ve been taken down at some point.
I have it. Should I post it? If it was taken down before, I don't want to post something that will get me in trouble.
@@hadji828 Yeah, I probably wouldn't risk it.

From Austin City Limits Season 18, Episode 1: Michael Nesmith/Emmylou Harris (1993).
What a great show.
He has such a great wit about him!
Great recording - thanks.
Great singer, song writer and performer. Too bad his solo career was not as well known as the Monkees.
The greatest Monkee, sorry.
All 4 were great- sorry.
Close your eyes and you might think your listening to David Byrne. The similarity is striking at times.
John Jorgensen on guitar, spot on as usual.
RIP Papa Nes
