- Everybody knows about the Tail of the Dragon, but is the Rattler actually a better ride? We went and checked it out, and had an incredible ride on another amazing road in the Great Smoky Mountains. 6 guys on Road Glide's, Street Glide's and a Road King leave behind some metal as we scrape our floorboards along the famous Rattler. Enjoy!
I ride around there every other weekend. The dragon is something you do once to say you did.
I’ve been lucky the few times I’ve done it, it hasn’t been crazy busy. But you are right, so many other amazing roads close by.
I've been on them all, many times. If you're in that area again try the Beaver Dam Rd north out of Canton, NC all the way up and over the mountain and down the other side.
Also, make sure your brake system is in top shape!

Dragon is overrated, so many better roads in the Smokies and I am glad you are finding them. Try 28 South from the Highlands and then right on Warwoman Rd. Another would be Wayah Rd from north of Andrews to Franklin. No trip that way is complete with out a pass on Cherohala Skyway!!! Enjoy, these are all in our backyard and get to ride them regularly!!!
Thank you for the road advice, we are definitely going back. We actually found Wayah by accident and it was really fun! Very jealous of your ability to ride all these great roads out your back door!
And less crowded😎🇺🇸 Many backroads in western NC and eastern TN that’s much better than the Snake and the Dragon!
