Nigeria used to consists of 3 regions (North, East and West). Ibadan was the Capital of the Western region until May 1967. The areas that constitute the western region are now 8 states in Nigeria (Delta, Edo, Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, and Oyo states)
Going back in history, Ibadan was formed about 200 years ago in the rubbles of disintegrating Oyo empire. Oyo Empire is of course a notable civilization in African from 1300 to 1800 AD.
The statue of the soldier you saw, was Colonel Adekunle Fajuyi, the first military governor of Western Region (with Ibadan as capital) who was killed in July 1966, along with then military head of state, Major-General Aguiyi Ironsi.
Are those crocs being beaten with a stick 🦯 😩
@@idowumohammed4689 I think you have selective amnesia.Nigeria had 4 regions and the Midwest is the only region created through the ballot box unlike the other three that created by the British.Get your facts right
@@nosaidubor9499People raised well do not engage in gratuitous insult in simple public conversation, as it reflects badly on their innocent parents. You could have simply put out that my historical claim was inaccurate, instead of charging selective amnesia.
As per your bone of contention. I made a conscious decision to stick with the 3 regions that has existed for the previous 2 decades, in comparison to 4 regions that lasted for 4 years. The 4th region was created in June 1963, during a crisis that did not abate until the regions were crashed in May 1967.
The champion of minorities, who fought for additional creations of regions for the minority, was clamped in jail over specious charges. The 2 biggest regions (North and East) then colluded to split smallest region (the West). North minority was almost 60% of the population. East minority was 40%. Yet it was the 25% Western minority that they chose to carve into a new entity. The original campaign by the incarcerated Western leader was for new regions to be carved out of all the 3 old regions for the minorities.
I'm Ghanaian 🇬🇭 born Ibadanian near Ibadan grammar school. Stayed near Adeyemo if my memory servers me right during my childhood days. I miss Fadeyi TV show, weekend parties, akara, suya, moimoi, I miss Nigeria as a 6 yaer old child then.

With much love from Naija. Wishing you God's blessings in all your endeavours.
Wow! Wow!! Wow!!! That is the campus where I was educated and groomed. I had my PRIMARY SCHOOL, SECONDARY SCHOOL and UNIVERSITY education, all in that University of Ibadan campus.
Welcome to Ibadan, Africa Tigress, the city of my birth.
Ibadan is one of the laid back cities in Nigeria. It is different to Lagos in so many ways. Things are cheaper and fresher, especially vegetables and other farm produce because you have more people who engage in farming as a source of livelihood. It is more bigger and cleaner than Lagos though some areas can mirror Lagos life but they can't measure up to the night life in Lagos. Lagos night life is second to none. Well done! Take good care of yourself.
Laid back city in Nigeria?
@@zarch887 yes
Second to none? I hope you mean second to none in Nigeria.
@@ay1ism second to none in Africa. As no African city has more millonaires/ billionaires or night clubs In Africa making it the the place in Africa with the most night clubs. It having a lot of night clubs has more to do with Lagos being so stressful making a lot of people have to resort to night clubs to chill out after work and hours in traffic. I guess it ain't a good thing tho 😥
@@tosinojo7310 like Nigeria cities are not laid back? Ibadan is among the developed cities in Nigeria. aside lagos, abj, Kano pH and probably uyo, which other state can boast of some of ibadan infrastructures and amenities?
FUN FACT: University of Ibadan is ranked as the No. 7 best University in Africa (and the best outside of South Africa and Egypt) (Source: US News & World Report, 2022)
Thanks for taking me with you to Ibadan. I have never been to the western part of Nigeria.I am a Nigerian and in Nigeria.
You have to pay fine to Africa Tigress ... 🤣🤣🤣
Nigeria to the world 👂 I love this 👍 Shine Nigeria 👀👍💪
I grew up in Ibadan! Attended university of Ibadan! Such nostalgia. How I miss home! The animals used to be many. I spent my childhood going to that zoo.

Now that you're going to Eastern Nigeria try to visit Portharcourt, Owerri,ABA,calaba,Uyo,Enugu and Ebonyi and Onisha
All the state in Nigeria are beautiful. Nigeria as a country is so beautiful
Great job African Tigress. 👍👏
The tallest building you saw near Cocoa Mall is the world famous Cocoa House in the Dugbe side of Ibadan. It was built by the old Western Region government of Nigeria led by Chief Obafemi Awolowo and commissioned in 1965 by his successor Chief Samuel Ladoke Akintola.
It was once the tallest building in Nigeria before structures in Lagos like NEICOM House, Stallion House of Union Bank Plc in Marina and Lagos Continental Hotel (tallest hotel in West Africa) in Kofo Abayomi Street, Victoria Island took over.
Thank you so much for showcasing our country on your channel. ❤
🇩🇿 🇩🇿 Thank you will visit your land in the wedding of my neighborhood Nigeria
You make me reminisce on my student's days on that campus. Indeed, Ibadan was a big relief from Lagos' hustle and bustle. There are many places to visit, being an educational town with many research institutes
Great content, Tigress! Ibadan is a thriving, bustling jewel of Oyo State! I am enjoying your travels, there! Your co-host E.J. resembles an actor in the United States by the name of Bill Bellamy!
Ibadan has lots of potential to be top most developed city in Nigeria...it only needs a serious government, I'm from Ibadan but I've never been there😢
Almost all you travel bloggers get to Ibadan and stop. You are almost in Ile ife the cradle of yoruba culture and there is a lot to see in Ile Ife that would blow you away, a lot of cultural stuff, a nice museum, the cradle of life, the osun Grove, the Palace of Oni, it is a place to be. In Ile Ife, you will hear all the tales of how the yoruba culture started with archaeological evidence. So many tales
I was born on campus at E15 Abadina UI Ibadan, I left UI when I was 10 years old
Nice one tigress 👌 try the best you can to visit Abuja and spend sometime there, cos there's alot for you to cover...and kano state if you can. I wish you all the best 👍
Are you based in Abuja?
@@AFRICANTIGRESS No, kaduna 2hours away from Abuja but there's alot of youtubers in Abuja
@@AFRICANTIGRESS don't go to Kano, as you'll have to watch what you wear. It's still cold there anyway, a weather entirely different from the places you've visited. If you can dress more like them, then Abuja, Kaduna & Kano are great places to visit. Special culture & different foods.
Thank you for this. I haven't been to Ibadan in 10years.
Please visit Abuja. All those places, Ibadan and co have no insight to show about Nigeria. Please visit Abuja. It is very easy to get around. That city will amaze you. There are some UA-camrs based in Abuja that you could link up with. Leave Ibadan I beg.
Thanks for going to my City.

I LIKE THE AGODI GARDENS...... THANK YOU SISTERS AND BROTHERS ALL ACROSS AFRICA.....
I also attended UI, you should also visit palms mall, ventura mall and Jericho mall all in ibadan for different experiences. I love what you do.
My country to the world
Tigress, your visit was short, that was a pity. Hopefully you can return and spend some more time.
One thing I've learned with Nigeria, animal care isn't done well. (I understand they are financially constrained). That means zoos and similar establishments I tend to avoid. The zoo looked like a prison and the animals appeared bored or depressed. When you know how many of these animals live in the wild you will realise that it's cruel to keep them in such conditions. Maybe this generation of animals will be the last to experience those concrete cells.
Agodi gardens was a big improvement for me, that is a place I could visit.
At least you say it as a Nigerian if it was someone from another country we would have been seen as haters.
That's Nigeria for you😂😂😂😂
@@realsebsworld3004 there is a difference btw constructive criticism and being just plain rude with a dose of bad belle. We do know the difference btw haters and those giving constructive criticism.
I understand what you mean but we also have other Zoos in Nigeria that are being well taken care of like the Yankari game reserve in Bauchi Nigeria… amazing place, the animals are allowed to roam and are not caged.
We also have the Sumu wildlife park as well

IBADAN actually means "e ba odan", that is to say, "by the side of a tree called odan".
Long time ago, in 19th century, the Fulanis from the Northern part were attacking the Yorubaland, they had already conquered Ilorin, a Yoruba city and were moving down South!
The Yorubas that fled from the Fulanis and other local wars settled by the side of "odan" tree, in a place now called IBADAN!
So, IBADAN is a place where many Yoruba groups settled down.
Thank you for the information
Hmm...lovely history
Maybe that is the reason why Oyo and Kwara has so many Muslims compared to Ekiti and Ondo
@@adamasimolowo8285 you're correct.
After the conquest by the Fulanis, you either join their faith or be killed.
The Yorubas consider the Islamic doctrines as too harsh and strict therefore, they usually refer to Islamic faith as "Imonle" short form of "Imon li le" that is, a very strict/harsh faith.
@@ladiran i'm an ijesha man by sub-ethnicity and my grandpa use to tell me his father fought a war along with ekiti and ondo against Ilorin back then.

My African Tigress. You actually did well by considering and including Ibadan city in this period of your visitation. First of all the round building you see around that mall is actually a bank, First Bank PLC and it's one of the oldest in that city.
It's so sad that Ibadan city with nice topography, the state government over the years has failed to develop the city potential by failing to provide project that will aid investment in that state. Ibadan undoubtedly, should be next trendy city after Lagos in Nigeria because it's rich in Yoruba history and culture, in the sense that it's only in Ibadan that you'll get to see people communicating with each other in Yoruba without caring if speak you speak in English or pidgin. It also has major federal government established institutions like the first television station in Africa NTA, First University in Nigeria, first Sky scraper in west Africa (the tall building close to that mall), first University teaching hospital and so forth.
Next time you visit try locate Bower's Tower and Mapo hall.
I'm not even Yoruba but i just love Ibadan city with passion, and that's my place of residence, my city.
Thanks y'all for listening to my Ted Talk...you welcome!

Well done, though 48hrs wouldn't have been enough to showcase Ibadan....Bower's Tower, Mapo Hall, David Hinderer's House at Cathedral Church of St David, Esu Awele's shrine at Oja 'ba where where every new Olubadan must visit before coronation, amongst others.
