    Seeing that there was an interview with Cameron pretty much stopped me in my tracks. My plans for the evening changed. Look, there are those of us that feel the pain of perceiving the world around us. Cameron, time and time again, always proves he's one of us. Thank you for such a god interview. @SonicScoop You're now on my radar.

    Bjork’s Medulla album.❤
    Would start someone on Post or Homogenic. It’s all good though.
    I can’t count how many of her tracks that I listened to and though they were “trash” that I came back to listen on repeat. So replayable.

    • @SonicScoop
      @SonicScoop  10 місяців тому +5

      Yes, you got it! Medulla. Thanks for the great comment. I liked Bjork from the beginning, but there are definitely artists I have had that relationship with. Tom Waits and Boards of Canada both come to mind where I just couldn't get into it at first, and then some day it clicked. Very relatable!

    What Camerons says about the industry wants you to buy the latest gear, and the musician thinks he needs that otherwise he can't make the music he has in his head.
    It's like I need to have this camera, lens, filter or I can't make the photograph.
    Well my dad told me that it doesn't matter at all what camera you have, just go out there and make pictures.
    You need to train your eye to see things and make the pictures YOU like.
    From that day on I took pictures and don't care what others think of it. Sure thru taking pictures I found out what works in a picture for me and what doesn't.

    Thanks so much for this interview! Both you and Cam are so articulate, well spoken, and have so much insight to share on this topic.
    The idea that there is no one solution because everyone is different and everyone’s path is different really hits. I’ve never known any artist to get the results they want by copying someone else. Studying perhaps, but not straight copying 🤔 Dookie and a Bjork are great examples of authentic creativity!

    About time Venus got his interview with others very known music channels. I kinda knew was coming sooner or later because in comparison with other channels here he goes thru other things that are not directly music making related but rather more into "personal approaches and struggles in music business" if that makes any sense. 5 - 7years ago Recording Revolution (When Graham was directly involved) they touched a tiny bit of that area but then kinda forgot about it ...? But when I stared watching Venus again he was really digging into all that and thats what made me stay subscribed to this day. Dont got me wrong , plugin reviews and all that is exciting and interesting but when you go thru what makes you struggle to make music and it doesnt have anything to do with plugins or studio hardware ....thats to me even more valuable lesson than anything and Venus Theory has opened my eyes a lot of times on that area.

    I know longer leave comments on UA-cam comments. So many of this space is people simping for channels or mob mentality. Actual comments or criticisms aren’t welcome for a particular of channels. This channel is a great channel however.

  • @isajoha9962
    @isajoha9962 10 місяців тому

    Yeah, the trap of focusing mostly on production, instead of on the art. Is kind of why don't you become a music tech instead of an artist. Hard to ever get any artistic flow with that approach, it becomes more mechanical using pre defined patterns of thinking with focus on self judgement with all the producers in the whole worlds weight on your shoulders. Kind of like using 4 hours on the snare sound instead of making use of the outburst of your musical DNA. 🤓

    • @isajoha9962
      @isajoha9962 10 місяців тому

      I mean you need to balance production and artistry to get the best workflow to create your musical goals, from the "studio" viewpoint.

    • @isajoha9962
      @isajoha9962 10 місяців тому

      Never forget the entertainment value of the UA-cam videos. Even if the messages might not be 100% in a video, it can balance up the whole experience. 😊 Actually the same for music, if production is less cool, the entertainment experience might tilt the total experience of encountering it.

  • @RudalPL

    I'm only 20 minutes in but I want to chime in about the Bjork thing.
    I like Bjork, especially her early albums and yes, she does not care at all, just does her thing, but... She has done an album like Debut and she has done some songs/music for films to help her kickstart the whole thing. She did have a career with Sugarcubes before her solo career.
    The point I'm trying to make here is that she might be at the stage where she doesn't care but she did follow the trends and did some "commercial" stuff to get to the point where she can do whatever she want and not care about everything else.
    I've found out about Venus Theory from Cubase videos. And I do like his non music videos a lot. I am an old fart that grew up on Thrash and Death Metal music so I'm not that big on electronic stuff but I do love to listen to his thoughts and ideas. If not the Cubase videos I wouldn't even know about Cameron's existence.
    So I think it is a fair point that if you want to do what you want to do then you have to accept the low popularity or you have to do some commercial work to let people know you exist so you can eventually do your own thing and not care anymore.

    so true. been trough all that. if i can condense anything down about all the years i spend learning, i think it it is"Less is more" i allways went extra complex to be not sloppy just to understand that i did many wrong things and did not the one, easy thing i should. even saying " as long as it sounds good" isnt save bc 12tone music sounds terrible but it is beautiful to the mind. if i can have a second statement it would be" if you have fun you are doing it wrong" but i think that roots more in human factors than musical, the fun comes bvack if you go way beyond perfect, but till you make it look easy, it should be hard.(but i am doing competition not music, so i am kindy coming from the opposite )

    I mean are u making music or are u making youtube, musicians just make music instead of talking about making music. But then the question is what do we want to make, like he said its 2 different things
    Why do we make youtube videos, what psychological effect does it have what needs do you get from the response of million peoples, how is it connected to the needs/brain. Does it strength self worth etc. Is this a problem of the actual technology state and that our brain is linked to technology, should we use less technology, are we addicted etc. Dopamin release etc.
    Do we have to much time thinking about this stuff instead of actual doing things, are we overwhelmed by all this input we get nowadays..
