A reclusive farmer goes to extreme lengths to protect the dark secret of a decaying house on his property.
Best quality print I've seen of this, thanks for posting!
I've bought two copies already and they are both awful. One, washed out picture, the other with a distorted horrible soundtrack...typical public domain junk. Nice to see there are still quality prints in existence.
Me too, mine has a washed out, dark picture that makes it almost impossible to see what's going on

Thanks for watching PizzaFLIX. May the Sauce be with you!
In other prints I couldn’t see anything that happened in the woods. Very appreciative of your copies!
This was a very good movie . I had never seen it before . I'm darn near 70 year's young . To bad they do not make movie's like this anymore. There was no bad language no nudetiy . Just real good acting .
Thank you so much .
I'm darn near 70 as well and this is the kind of movie that makes for great drama and personality developments, so well filmed, Thank You. I have never seen this before either.
Me too!
Edward G never disappointed. Tremendous atmosphere created by the master movie score writer Miklós Rózsa.
It is great seeing these
old movies!
What a great film and great acting - no one competing to be "the star" just plain solid good acting all round
It's odd that the gem does not turn up on most film noir lists. It's a unique piece of noir gothic, fit for Daphne DuMaurier fans. Every viewing satisfies.
Wow, this print is beautiful. A lot better than the blurred, washed out print I just watched. Good movie! They just don't make 'em like this anymore.
Thank God.
@Michael Mager
Because nowadays generation is plain stupid in any way.
The way hes dressed rolled up sleeves and Levi's remind me of my Dad.
Robinson was an amazing actor
Thank you for posting:)
Filmed in my home town, Columbia, CA. The high school they are leaving, in the bus, is really the elementary school. It was fun watching how the (then) undeveloped countryside looked...... and the print quality is superb .......
I accompanied my son on a school field trip to Columbia SHP in '05 or so. We were from Mariposa, CA. Also very fond of the Sasaparilla made at Columbia Soda Works. I live in Arizona, now, and cannot find it here.
Cool, interesting
I live in the next county over, Calaveras
School building on Parrotts Ferry Road still very recognizable, built 1936. The fictional Storm's General Store is in the current Fallon Hotel, structure built as boarding house in 1859, restored 1986 and still standing. This film from 1947. Edward G Robinson born 1893. Hard to believe we are up to 2020 already.
Too bad calli sucks now. All of it.
He had a varsity letter 'S' on his sweater, which didn't make sense riding in a "Union High School" bus.
Absolutely awesome old movie.. !!!
A small film elevated by Miklos Rozsa's score and some great performances thoughtfully directed. Always love Edward G and Dame Judith and the younger cast all gave very solid and believable support. Interesting 40s attempt at psychology too.
YES, EXCELLENT MOVIE.
ALL GREAT ACTORS & ACTRESSES.
"There's a Red House over yonder...That's where my baby stays". Great little post war movie, with a good cast. cReEpY sounds, compliments of the Waterphone & Theremin devices. At 1:32:25 Couple of 40's Harley-Davidson Knuckleheads.
I really liked this. Good acting, and Spooky atmosphere, made me stick around to the end.
Unusual, suspenseful, intriguing film with excellent acting from entire cast. Edward G. Robinson is great playing a man on the edge of the edge!
Unforgettable masterpiece played by an
Unforgettable actor.
GREAT POST MARTIN
Great film. I´ve been trying to see all Edward G. Robinson´s films that apear in UA-cam, I love to see his acting, extraordinary actor he was.Since the last few days, with this one, I already saw three of his films and I loved all three. Thank you for posting great films from the forthis like this one, including great musicals with Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire (these of the fifties and sixties) and other spendid actors/dancers.
@ Maria G.-We have 2 more great ones: Scarlet Street and The Stranger. Both highly recommended. 🍕🍕🍕🍕🍕
@@PizzaFLIX Yes, I've seen both and loved them. G. Robinson was an actor with an "A" maiúsculo. I want to see the rest of his films, thank you to remind me of them.
Great movie, wonderful performances by the great Edward G. & Dame Judith Anderson. This kept me on the edge of my seat, wondering about the mystery of that Red house! Thanks! You always have such great films..Loved Edward G in Our Vines have Tender Grapes with Margaret O'Brien Scarlet Street with the great Dan Duryea There are so many of his works that I like, it's hard to chose just one. A young handsome Rory Calhoun also makes his appearance.
Sort of strange watching a movie where everyone has grown old and died years ago, makes you think
Really good entertainment - like a movie is supposed to be. Good story, good acting, great casting!
Thanks Pizza ! This is a good thriller.Edward G. could always play crazy rolls good. 😜. I love ❤️ his acting too ! I don't remember
This one. 🎥 🎭
A movie i have never seen wow .. good quality and a great movie ... Thank you for sharing this video I hope you have a nice day
Rory Calhoun was certainly a handsome devil, and reportedly he took advantage of that fact.
He has a fascinating wiki page. Complete with escape from juvenile prison and federal time for car theft when he was young. And then success as an actor and the many affairs that you allude to.
Mishawaka Post Rory was also 'Farmer Vincent' in the cult classic "Motel Hell".
If I had looks, and s modicum of acting ability, I'd make my living that way too.
A really excellent Film Noir Movie. I really enjoyed it after not seeing it for all these years. This film has a great cast of upcoming stars, great story and direction and a plus of a great wall to wall film score by the one and only Miklos Rozsa. Thanks for the excellent upload. Out.
No way I'd ever kiss my mother like that. Great movie.
+Thomas Mulholland thought the same..and WTF..
I know that's right
@D. D.D. Not that much, lol
I kissed my mum like that many times ..
Thank You, PIZZAFLIX for this! I have never seen this in such a good transfer. Amazing performance by Edward G. that perhaps nobody have ever seen. Dr. Rosza's score is so awesome, as well. Please don't let u tb take you down for all that you have done. Best wishes, a fan!
all those young people are somebody's great grandparents
Julie London and Allene Roberts are actually just entering their 20s but they're supposed to be 16 or 17.
Rory Calhoun was actually 25.
@@raymondsaquet2922 Can you believe it? Rory Calhoun was the crazy murdering "pig farmer" in "Motel Hell"!
@@ToniHunterOne What !!! I am going to ✔️that 🎥 out thanks for the information 3-2-2021
Absolutely beautiful print!! Thanks again for a great upload.
Amazing! Can you imagine heading to a theater on a Saturday night in 1947 to see a picture like this? You'd feel like you'd been away on a trip.
Shelly Noble Let's not forget the 🍿, 🌭 & 🥤🙂 March 2,2021
Hooray for Pizza Flix.
An excellent print of a good movie. After YEARS of watching Julie London as Dixie McCall on "Emergency" for nearly fifty years, it was extremely interesting to see her as a beautiful teenager in this film. There's no mistaking her, even thirty years before she became a "nurse" and Rampart General Hospital. Great sauce here @PizzaFlix.
A good story ---well developed and acted ----great suspenseful conclusion .
A great 40's film noire,Edward plays a brilliant psycho, the supporting cast is awesome, a wee gem imho!
nice movie full of mystery, the music those days makes the movie even more mysterious thank you for the up load
At least back then they had a real full orchestra playing. Today, music is all done by computer there is no band.
danielle Miklós Rosa also wrote the music to the movie “Ben Hur” In my opinion, the best movie score of all time.
@@54321Judith Robin Hood has a great score as well so does Jurassic Park OH THOSE HORNS! can they ever play!
@@54321Judith he also did the music for the film "Lust For Life" which sounds very similar.
Another great evening’s viewing, most enjoyable. Thank you!👍🏻
Practically a symphony with pictures and dialog.
The pretty cool movie has a storyline and a lot of suspense, great acting.
I Enjoyed every minute of this Movie!!!! Bravo!!!!
Ty Everybody for appreciating Quality stuff ! After I read these comments I am sure that I Wi'll Enjoy the artistry also ; I'm 64 ! Omg but feel 20 in my mind , that's how I stay young
What a fantastic movie. So griping and disturbed.
Awesomeness, Timeless, Hollywood really could learn something from a history lesson about Film making , everytjing they do now SUCKS ,, Thank Goodness We Still Can Enjoy These
THIS is the BEST! THANK YOU! Can you possibly do some of the wonderful old British films from the 40s like "The October Man" "Cottage For Let", "This Happy Breed" all with John Mills, and "Millions Like Us" and "Two Thousand Women" with Patricia Roc
What a great old movie! Loved it and thank you so much for posting!
Good movie. Love Edward G. Robinson, but the "scary" theme music they used back then, sometimes, was so over done, that it accomplished the exact opposite of the intended effect.
THAT WAS ONE COLD DEATH FOR PETE.
P.S. E.G.R. MUST BE A SWIMMER.
I DUG THE WAY HE CLOSED HIS EYES FOR HIS BIG COLD DISMISE.
GREAT MOVIE.
Allene Roberts was darling in this movie.
What a masterpiece!!!!!!!
Excellent movie, thanks for uploading!
great film...never saw e.g. in a roll like this one...thank you.

You're an archivist... And I applaud you for it. :3
Best old horror movie I've seen on YT! Thanks for posting this!!
GREAT, old movie just love it, thank you for sharing it.
Wish I could live like that now. Beautiful
Does anyone else remember Mrs. Danvers ?
Yes, the housekeeper in Rebecca.
She also played in the movie "Laura" and she wanted Vincent Price to marry her in that movie.
Just plain EXCELLENT !!! Thank you !!!!
Absolutely brilliant. Stunningly beautiful.

EGR, as always, makes the most of his character. Slogging thru those woods is perfect for the pacing of this dark mess.
GOOD MOVIE I love these old movies good actors & ACTRESSES Even though not hard to figure the plot , Their genuine scripts, story of true caring simply for ways how trama can effect someone' ones life This movie was simply made to show compassion & forgiveness when
u find out their real reason to thier madness if one cam call it that....
Now a days there r those who dont want to take the time really figure out whats troubling a soul helping them find their way back to showing love compassion that shows to be there... Not staying in the confusion ..
But getting past it their own fear that enables them to see their past where it all stemmed from ....He had true sister who gave up on her own dreams to seeing her brother face it move on..Need to say anymore?? Back in the day these moves had to be supervised 🤔cause of wrong ideas putting it out there...
Look at the films today wow!!!!! 12 or13 are aloud to watching porno on cable tv that is not even sensored ",free" for the eyes or what is being said"" seeing full grown married couples had thier clothes on sleeping in separate beds in the movies ... I remember being a child close Your eyes NOW and or both TURN YOUR HEAD IF NOT BEING SENT TO BED CAUSE SIMPLE INNOCENT KISS LIKE A PICK ON THE LIPS WITH NO MOTION MY Goodness KEEP HEADS KISSES STILL WITH NO FEELING or Emotion giving Wrong ideas. 🙉🙈🙊 I do agree with that,, Marriage is sacred ..Not showing body parts or sex , Making Love Should NEVER NEVER BEEN ALOUD AS IT IS TODAY...100/PERCENT I AGREE ALWAYS WILL

Crystal clear picture thank you so much wonderful flick❤❤❤😘
Damm; this was like one of those "Rent or Buy" joints that slipped by! I knew Nate and Ellen was gonna link, but the script was still superb. The was still basically unpredictable. QUALITY.
That was a 10 rated movie. Thank you for quality entertainment. ✌🏽
I loved it. Great movie. Mysterious, wholesome, and a little scary.
great .cast and score. watched it many times
Wow what a movie, it really exceeded my expectations and them some. Absolutely terrific. Thanks for posting.
I've never seen Edward G. Robinson in a bad movie 👍👍🙂
45:40 Did EGR say when he was a young lad, sunday was always a good day for spooning?? I rewound a few times, still sounds like that. Wow.
Yes, back then 'Spooning' meant courting, visiting a girl.
Wow, doesn't even make any sense. Of course, calling kissing necking doesn't make any sense either.
Great Movie..Thank you!
הייתי רוצה שיהיה תרגום בעיברית
בהצלחה עם זה - לאף אחד לא אכפת מהעם היהודי כיום.
Thanks for uploading this wonderful movie 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Edward G. Robinson could do it all......Gangsters......10 Commandments......MANPOWER.......you name it. The only thing I never seen him do is dance. Almost as good as Cagney.......ALMOST...... Cagney was surely the BEST ! RIP to 2 amazing actors who were so alike.....almost.
Much as I love Cagney, EGR had great performances that Cagney could never manage: Scarlet Street & The Woman in the Window, among others. They were both greats of their day!
Rory Calhoun as teller
Ends up acting in motel hell..lol
What a strange movie.
It is a very strange film.
1:13:27 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Ah Ha Ha Ha Ha .
The 'ol Mud Ball to the face !
That'll teach him !
Judith Anderson! She's actually SMILING!
I really enjoy watching films that are shot without the use of a sound stage for most scenes. It adds so much more realism . It is very expensive to shoot "on scene",but it is worth it.
(that's~ shoot on location...)
EGR is so good. Great film 👍
A very good film! Thank you for
uploading 💖
Really enjoyable: Edward G is as great as ever.
I absolutely loved this movie!! They surely do not make them like that anymore. I absolutely adore these black and white Classics. Thank you so very much. Good quality print and excellent acting. Edward G Robinson was certainly underrated
Awesome, thank you very much...The Pick-up Trucks should be in A Musium Somewhere.
Thanks for good quality great movie and an introduction describing it.
Excellent quality upload, thanks! Liked and Subscribed.
Excellent movie! The last scene is one to wait for!
Wonderful film. Thank you for posting it!
What a great old movie this was ,, wooow ,, thank you for this movie , we need some pizza ..
Because of Julie London its one of the best
I dream about where this farm is or was. What is there now......Beautiful land.
No matter what you say.....Kids just want to go their own way.
Thank you for a fabulous movie.
Wonderful movie
So full of life
2020 will be a yeat not forgotten But also for Renewal of this type of Movies.
Ignore silliness in parts of plot and enjoy a good yarn. Thanks for uploading this.
Saw this movie years ago on TCM. Wonderful movie.
Good movie, thank you!
Great movie and great ending if it was real then they would have to move along because the state would take that property because they weren't related
He is my favorite old actor...
A true renaissance man
Gotta love 💕 these oldies.
$750 was a lot of money at the time of this film average weakly salary was $62. A week.
Thomas LeMay 62$ wow you must have been rich. I was working 10 hr a day in the 1960s I didn’t consider myself poor but my wage was 12 pounds a week.
@@ellymay1455 12 pounds then was 60 dollars. The exchange rate was fixed at 5:1.
Pretty good!!!
Worth finding out what YOU think.........
Enjoy!
