How many people are here but then realized that the wipers don't work with the hood not fully closed!!....👍.....thanks for saying that in the vid Dan!!!
I gotta tell you, man, I'm not much of a mechanic, but I'm really impressed with the way you break down all your videos on Porsche Cayenne 2005. very helpful for me, considering my sister gave me one sitting in her driveway for almost 6 months with nieces to pieces living under the hood. I will have to have my son teach me how to upload videos, can share them with you.
The adjustment you do at 7:40, do you know what that affects? I replaced my wiper linkage recently and I set it like you. My passenger sweeps perfectly, my driver parks correctly but doesn’t sweep as much. Do you think it affects the range of motion of the driver arm?
Very nicely done. Your videos are very helpful. One comment about something I noticed in this video and the one you did for brakes.....are your secondary smog pump motors upside down? I am getting ready to replace one of mine and I happen to subconsciously noticed yours. Keep the videos coming.
My passenger side wiper has two studs holding the wiper arm one rotates the other does not. Should both rotate? My passenger side wiper is not wiping the windshield and the driver side is. Than you. @diydan
Hey Dan, first off I just wanna say thanks for putting all your work on film for everyone to learn. It’s hard enough and stressful just dealing with the repairs. I’m actually in the process of repairing my drivers side air strut. I need to access the strut mount bolt hiding behind the brake fluid reservoir (under the wiper motor cowl cover.) According to your other video on the front suspension restoration; you recommended referencing the wiper motor vid to access all 3 bolts for the air strut top mount. Anyhow, I got the same puller you’re using and the teeth aren’t grasping under the wiper arms. Did you modify your puller in order for it to fit under the wiper motor arm? Thanks!
Hi Ramez! Getting that puller to grip under the wiper arm is very difficult! That was one of the issues I remember very vividly. I remember having to grip the jaws with my one hand to keep the teeth from slipping off while at the same time using a ratchet to tightening it down. No doubt its a very frustrating process to do! Gotta love those German engineers! Hope this helps! PS: As much as I loved the driving aspect of the Cayenne, I'm so glad I sold it. I just don't have the patience anymore to deal with poor quality and dumb engineering.
Don't even get me started on that... LOL! Have you ever done a rear hatch strut replacement on a Cayenne? The engineer who decided that was a good idea deserves to be punched in the mouth for that abomination of a design!
Hi Dan, I have a 2005 Porsche Cayenne turbo and the right windscreen wiper is not moving at all whilst the left (drivers side, thankfully) works. Would that mean it's the motor? I also wonder if you have heard of any issues with a jammed door? Cannot get rear left passenger door open from the inside or out. All other doors work fine.
It can't be the motor if the left wiper works. Did you remove the right wiper arm to see if the post that is connects to is at least moving? If the post is not moving then you probably have something wrong with the wiper transmission.
Is there a special tool that allows you to remove the passenger side, non-drive spindle nut off? The bolt/spindle is free spinning and I'm not sure how thats supposed to come off without a special tool or way to lock the bolt while tightening or loosening.
Hi Jason, I don't know what you mean non-drive spindle nut. Are you talking about where the big metal arm connects to the wiper motor? If so just hold the metal arm in place while you loosen the nut. This bolt shouldn't be that tight from the factory.
DIY Dan , yes facing the windshield the far left nut is on a free spinning bolt, the motor drives the one next to it. Just curious how you were able to just ratchet it on and off. Thanks for the videos, keep it up!
Ok! Now I know what you are talking about. I had no problems removing mine. If I remember right, I removed the passenger wiper arm nut first, then the driver side. Sounds like you might of did the opposite? Try reinstalling the driver side nut and tighten it and then see if it will allow you to remove the passenger side.
Jason did you figure it out? I am having the same problem. First I tried to use a flat screw driver where there is a flat spot. I don’t have a small/strong to fit into the hole to prevent the bolt from spinning
@@748Carbon I have the same problem with the same bolt as you guys...did someone figured it how to remove the bolt if it's spinning with the whole assembly?
Hi Dan, great video! I was wondering if the passenger side wiper is jerking slightly (not fully wiping) but the driver side isnt, what do you reckon the fault is? Do you think id need to replace the whole thing? Sorry for bombarding with questions but does the VW Touareg wipers fit the cayenne turbo 2005?
Thanks Nile! I heard Porsche has TSB for the jerkiness you are describing. I would look there first before purchasing anything. Sorry. I don't know if a wiper arm from a Touareg will fit a Cayenne. I would think they would?
Great video Dan! My first attempt to replace my Cayenne's 2005 motor was unsuccessful though. Online purchased a Bosch 0390241889 (7L6955119B) which has exact same connections/dimensions/voltage but does not power at the test stage (connector was tested and supplies 12V). Spare motor is for newer models of Cayenne/Touareg but i hoped it will work, now I am going for the exact same motor (Bosch 0390241835/7L0955119K) and hopefully will have this fixed soon!
Yep! I was referring to YOUR remarks (not that they were missing, sorry I wasn't more clear!) That remark was worth it's weight... since I was in the middle of a different job related to the BRAKE VACCUM BOOSTER, and had the wipers removed. I thought I hosed them somehow, since I wanted to re-index their ZERO position before reassembling, but the motor didn't operate since my hood was still up! LIFE IS GOOD!
Hey dan I’m a new sub. You wouldnt happen to know the name or if there’s a part number for the piece under the passenger arm that you stuck the pick tool into? Just used your video to change my motor and realize I don’t have the one closer to the center.
It will eventually pop. They are hard to remove, mine was the same way. Make sure the puller is on straight and even pressure is being applied. If you have the puller attached to the wiper arm it will not damage the splines.
Just spitballing. I figure this is similar for the 2004 Touareg. Got an auction unit on the cheap. 100,000 miles, smooth run but tons of tiny problems. The passenger wipers stay in place, the bushings appear to be toast. The driver's wiper works but only when you get to 10mph. So sitting at the intersection, your windshield fills with snow or whatever and you can't really see until it gets going. I've seen posts that claim this is intentional. But I'm sure NTSB would not let VW allow wipers to stop working just because its stopped. So I figure the electronics in the wiper motor are bad. I have fixed bad electronics in other cars I've owned.
Mark, if it were me I'd buy a good used wiper motor and throw it in there. The wiper motor and brain (electronics) are a all in one package. If one is bad, you will have to replace the whole unit. It also sounds like your "wiper transmission" is bad -- this is the metal bars that connect the driver and passenger side wipers together. Good luck!
Just happened to me today. I called a reputable German motors repair shop and they told me that it could be the linkage mechanism. I’m taking my car in tomorrow so we’ll see.
13 ft/lbs is what Porsche specifies. Yes, I had the same problem as you! I guess you didn't see my other video regarding this? ua-cam.com/video/d88057FLPMk/v-deo.html

Saved me headache, time, and money. Thank you for your detail.
I'm about to do the wiper motor on my '05 S...I also couldn't believe the price of the motor. Absolutely ridiculous.
Great video!
Thanks Brian! I hear ya! Good luck with it!

Wow! Love the narration hahaha! Super informative but also crude :p Love the video! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Kevin!
Awesome stuff Dan, I have the wiper linkage to replace this month and the big rear boot struts, not the window struts 😌👍🏻
Can you do a video on replacing all the boot struts at all ?, it would be much appreciated then you can buy a couple of beers and send me the bill 😅👍🏻

Worked great. Had to remove it to replace the passenger side air bag as the rear strut bolt is under one of the ECUs in the cowl (Touareg v10).
VAG Porsche engineers Sur window how to make a simple job more complicated than necessary. Good Lord! Thanks for sharing!

big help ! for my cayenne GTS

Another great video! Thank you.
Once again you've shown how great an asset you are to other Cayenne owners. Is this also a common issue on the cayenne???
Thanks! I appreciate the kind words. From my research it seams the wiper motors are rather weak in these cars.
WOW! DITTO to remarks about the NEED TO CLOSE THE HOOD! -- you can do a separate video with ONLY that info! THANKS! SERIOUSLY!
I mention the hood needs to be closed in order for the wipers to work at the 6.50 mark. Glad the video was helpful David! You're very welcome!

My wipers stopped working, but I can still hear it as if it’s stuck and can’t move do you have any idea what that problem is ??

Hi KamD450, sorry I don't know the part number for the plastic cover under the wiper arm. I would call the local dealer for that. Good luck!
It is a wonderful movie!!! It was very useful. I can challenge.
Thank you! Glad to hear it helped you! :) You can check out my other Cayenne repair videos by clicking the playlist link the description.
Did you have to code in the new wiper motor?
No. It is plug and play.
you're the Man!
My driver side wiper arm is stuck on. PB blast didn't work, puller tool was going to destroy the spline if I pulled any harder. What can I do??
It will eventually pop. They are hard to remove, mine was the same way. Make sure the puller is on straight and even pressure is being applied. If you have the puller attached to the wiper arm it will not damage the splines.
It is a RHD vehicle so it is the double linkage bracket.

Probably the wiper transmission is broken. Its a pretty common fault on these.

my passenger wiper hardly touches the screen and no one seems able to make it any better
Nice job! Hope my wife's lasts a bit longer than that.
Thanks! Yea, I hope so too!
Sorry but the torque for the 13mm nut it not 13 ft/lbs, it's not enought. I need to remove all again. Can you change this note please?
13 ft/lbs is what Porsche specifies. Yes, I had the same problem as you! I guess you didn't see my other video regarding this? ua-cam.com/video/d88057FLPMk/v-deo.html
Will this motor do ? www.autozone.com/electrical-and-lighting/wiper-motor/cardone-reman-wiper-motor/270484_140631_0_2805
The connector is all wrong. Have you figured out if you have a early or late wiper motor assembly? The change occurred sometime in mid-2005.
no, how can i see that? do i need to take the motor out to see that ?
