    Just get different types of beans and count how much protein is in each serving and have that many servings of beans per day. But it has to be different beans. Soy, kidney, black, please, chickpease. And seitan as well. And tofu. And miso. And quinoa. After you've tracked it for one meal, just eat the same thing every day but prepare it differently. Vegan foods can taste like literally anything you cook it with.

      @@jakestevanja1304 ok. Yeah he went to the Olympics and killed it. It's not that vegans can't do these things & possibly outperform their competitors. It's that there aren't many vegans to begin with compared to the meat eating population, which means there won't be many vegan competitors in these sports. So by the numbers, we won't see many vegans excelling in these sports. These sports are already very niche in the first place.

    It's obviously possible to be jacked and/or athletic as a vegan (even if it's suboptimal), the problem however is some overly zealous vegans are simply in denial. Some examples below:
    1. Some proteinaphobic vegans are proud to eat less than 30g protein a day claiming you don't need any (probably due to the the Mcdougall study on dietary survival). They fail to realise protein requirements to be optimal and athletic are going to be MUCH higher than protein required for mere survival.
    2. Many vegans simply don't track protein macro due to the assuming they are consuming more protein than meat eaters (usually due being told 100grams XYZ vegetable contains more protein than 100grams of meat). The problem with this logic is weight isn't the same as [calories:protein ratio] or protein per serving size (have you ever tried eating a kilo of spinach?). Typically these types end up consuming too little protein and too many carbs.
    3. Heaven forbid you tell a vegan to supplement. They often think their diet is the perfect holy grail and will refuse to even consider supplementation.
    ....the vegans that are jacked/athletic are the (few) sensible ones that take into account the obvious points mentioned.

    • @Theviewerdude
      @Theviewerdude 6 років тому +1

      Look up some research on the topic. I believe Aragon published some. ~50g of soy protein a day was shown to not increase estrogen. A few case studies show intakes very high above that do increase estrogen in men. No telling where the "breaking point" is. So basically, 50g a day has been proven to be safe. Any higher... they're your balls on the chopping block. Your risk

    • @GaryMalcolm
      @GaryMalcolm 6 років тому +15

      That's probably a reference the estrogen myth. Soy has some phytoestrogens, not much and it does not effect our hormones. Oddly this concern is not often expressed about milk and whey which as lactation products are absolutely PACKED with real animal estrogens. So there's that.

    Here’s the facts:
    Animal foods are superior sources of protein. It’s not even close. No matter what metric you use (Net Protein Utilization (NPU), Protein Efficiency Ratio (PER), Protein Digestibility (PD). etc), animal protein is more complete and more bioavailable.
    Animal products have additional nutrients unique to animals that plants lack - but we really need to thrive. DHA, EPA, B12, D3, K2, Heme Iron, Retinol (true vitamin A) to name a few.
    Plant sources of protein often come with carbohydrates (beans, legumes). So you end up consuming a large amount of carbohydrate and fiber just to meet your basic needs. For most people this is too much fiber and carbohydrate. Conversely, nuts are so high in fat (calories) that you’d have to allocate your entire calorie budget to nuts to use them as a main protein source. Tofu is the only plant source of protein that kind of mimics the macro nutrient advantages of meat and eggs - mostly protein and fat, low carb.
    Plant sources of protein also contain anti nutrients such as oxalates, phytates and lectins. These are poisons created by plants to protect themselves. They’re designed to irritate the stomachs and guts of animals and insects that eat them. Plants don’t want to be eaten. This is their defense. So plants need to be prepared properly to reduce or remove those anti nutrients - but you can’t get them all no matter how well you prepare. People with IBS, SIBO, candida, leaky gut, Crohns, and other autoimmune diseases really need to be careful with plant foods and carbohydrates. Unfortunately, this is an ever growing segment of our population, especially among vegans.
    Animal products, such as meat are hypoallergenic. They contain no anti-nutrients or fiber to irritate the gut or block the absorption of minerals. They are easily and fully digestible.
    This is why plant matter is not considered a serious source of protein. It can help prevent overt signs of protein deficiency, but it’s not an optimal choice.
    Literally every culture in the world has always known this just from generations of trial and error. When you are recovering from injury or illness, when you are feeling ruin down, if you are pregnant - basically any condition that requires optimal nutrition - animal products (milk, meat, eggs, organs, etc) are always the most coveted and prized foods. And for good reason - they are superior across the board.
