This show was so much better in person. You can't tell from the video but they caught every baton the spun in the air or threw. At one point the main girl spun the baton on her elbow. Also, when the girl was on the platform she threw the baton to the guy 20+ feet away without even looking back. Sure the playing wasn't perfect but the general effect was amazing.
What an innovative show! Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think anybody has ever seen a show quite like this one. This is definitely a show that moves the activity forward into a new direction. I wouldn't be surprised at all if we started seeing more shows like this in the future, albeit ones with more marching with the harness, but regardless.
WHO: Aimachi Indoor Drumline from Japan WHERE: Dayton, Ohio, at WGI Championships (just ended yesterday) Drill designer: Michael Gaines, I think. Percussion arranger: I'm not sure.
i like it when these international groups come to wgi and perform. japanese drum lines maybe a different style than the drum lines in the u.s.a. it shows diversity and uniqueness.
Very true! This ensemble reverts to the the original heritage of japaneese teiko drumming, which relies on clarity of rhythm as it relates to the religous moment to be conveyed. What I'm hearing is a rhythmic book that is attainable by a very fine high school line. What is different about this ensemble is the professionalism of presentation.
wow....lots of dancing and sliding drums around. I don't particularly care for this. I get what they are trying to do, but it's just not working for me.
I remember seeing them in person, and no recording I've found has done the real performance justice. It was mind blowing.

Imagine Aimachi's visuals with MCM's pit and Rhythm X's battery. Unstoppable.
Their drums are tuned perfectly.

I bet these guys were really glad when their instructor told them they wouldn't need the carriers for this show...

My god that was so awesome.
What a show! Now if Aimachi could get the hands to go along with the visual fireworks they would be untouchable.
This is what happens when the equipment truck shows up in Dayton and they realize that they forgot to pack the carriers. :P
