I hope you're not paying $1000 a month for that type R bro? 😂But anyway congratulations
Can you roll race the two together please???
Hyundai lied about the HP numbers a Kona N with the resonator removed put down 274 at the wheels. The Civic is cool but that wing looks so aftermarket and out of place.
hey . why did you choose type R over Elantra N
Roll race the two?
My head says Type R but my body says Elantra N. That exhaust is everything
Got a 22 Elantra N DCT in Phantom Black, without any makeup. To this day, I never get tired of it.
I also got a 2022 it’s a beauty with power ❤
Has it broken down ? Any problems yet?
@@forceuser609chill daddy.
The civic type r is my dream daily, but after seeing markups and how long it would take to get it, i went with my Performance Blue N for $29,500. And at under 30k it was just not a comparison anymore, the small amount of performance gain i would get for another 20k is just not worth it.
How in the hell did you drag them under $30K for one of those?
@@ENIGMVTIK Me being friends with the GSM of the dealership helped me get it under MSRP.
damn what area did you buy yours in? i paid 3k over for mine
@@dylanb2142 was that $29,5 after taxes? Hyundais Z plan doesn’t put it that low
@@darienhaghighat6400 after taxes i paid $31,972
For me the clear winner is the Elentra N for the 3 reasons below:
1- Available to purchase at MSRP or below
2- Available to purchase at MSRP or below
3- Available to purchase at MSRP or below
Honda, doesnt care about their customers, half of the Type-R sold will be a garage queen. Hyundai built car for us to enjoy. That is why the lentra N is cleraly the winner.
skilled child labor,🤣🤣🤣
they forget why they became stans to begin with.. this very sole reason. Affordable enthusiast market was wide open for JPN car manufactures way long ago and they put out cars like S2000, EVO, STI, ITR all for a reasonable price. But axing enthusiast platforms and hiking the price. that's something id like to get behind.
I've had my EN DCT for a few weeks now. Did my first spirited drive through some Arizona mountain roads and was blown away. The thing is so much fun and so planted. Then on the way home I got over 30mpg. Couldn't be happier with it.
What area in Arizona do you live?
Why did you buy an auto?

@@LilScotty10 if driving a manual is an inconvenience then you are just lazy. I've daily driven a manual, even in stop n go traffic and its not a pain. The rest of you are just lazy, and it's sad tbh
@Jackson S that was just so sad to read, this way of thought Is the same reason why people don't even want to drive their own cars anymore and want the shit to drive itself.
I own a 2023 Elantra N and it's such a fun car and that stock exhaust is just insane for the price. Can't beat that price they're selling for.

The Value on the Elantra N is just incredible.
Short term yes. But still nothing beats the longevity of Toyota/lexus & Honda/Acura vehicles.
@@gallardo20000 that's true but with a 10yr factory warranty does it even matter?
@@305Nick I find the 10 year warranty hard to believe and there are some fine print we need to address. Why is it that Honda despite an excellent track record only provides 5 year warranty on the motor and transmission?
because of posts like yours that assume Honda is infinitely better reliability. It's Hyundai showing they stand by the car. Companies were doing this in the 70s and 80s to show that they stand by what they built. Subaru use to have a warranty like this as well. @@gallardo20000
@@gallardo20000 longevity on GR86? FL5 overheating on track days? ya buddy.
I just picked up a 2022 Veloster N for my daughter in Miami(a new one) three weeks ago and drive 1,110 miles home. I personally wanted EN but my daughter firmly wanted VN. The car is really nice and very fun to drive. Driving composure is superb and the car is very easy to toss around corners. What a toy!!! Quite comfortable on the road. I can't wait to bring this VN to track in May. Speaking of reliability I have Elantra sports for my commute car. I racked up 72,000 miles. I never had any single minor issues with this car. I only did regular oil changes. That was it. I drove Elantra sports on the track for about 12 days hard for fun. Still not a single issue. My 2007 Honda Odyssey? I have lists of stupid issues first three years including day-of-delivery problems. The paint quality was so bad, 10% of the paint is already gone and rust is seeping in(Famous for Honda). Honda and Toyota are not old-time cars anymore.
Was there a reason you drove so far to get one? Did you get a good deal? I live a few hours from Miami and I’m looking for an elantra n.
I've owned 2 Sonatas, one reg gas and a hybrid, both cars did not have any issues, just regular oil change, they both lasted me over 90k until I sold them Btw brake pads at 45k and tires lasted me over 40k with regular rotation
Type R FL5 owner here. Love my Type R. Hate what I paid for it haha. But the way the Electra N sounds omg I love it. Wish Honda made the Type R sound like that.
Just bought the Type R- that’s the only thing that had me debating the Type S.
@@kblairp yeah same. But the reason why the Type R doesn’t sound like that it’s because Japan has a law banning loud vehicles. And since the Type R was built in Japan they didn’t add the sound. The Acura Integra Type S is American built and yeah we like to be loud af lmao.
Elantra N owner here - Super jealous of the FL5 owners but kudos to the amazing car. The value of the Elantra N is superb and I have so much fun driving it around everywhere. The six speed in the EN isn't as heavenly feeling as the CTR but a weighted shift knob seemed to fix the issue. You can't go wrong with either option as an enthusiast.
~Elantra n reasonably looks more aggressive than the fl5, with all the lines and angles reminiscent of fk8, even with the smaller wing..
~Fl5 has smooth body lines, which may make it blend into the crowd more.
~The Elantra sticks out like a sore albeit appealing thumb.
@@boosted_n I got the Billetworkz Fusion. The install isn't the easy due to the factory knob being pushed on. Billetworkz gives you an threaded adapter for their knobs so future removal/install will be a lot easier. The knob is 500g and makes the shifts are lot crisper.
A weighted mob makes the shift slightly smoother at the cost of having a little bit less feel. Personally I prefer lighter OEM shift jobs or nobs of similar weight. Feel > smoothness
I think you mean Nthusiast..... Alright, im done. But I love the Elantra N. I ended up buying a Kona N because My subaru decided to blow up half way across the country on a road trip, but I'm considering trading it in for an elantra N.
@Gary unless you have bought an FL5 or are a big mainstream reviewer then you will be lucky to even sit in the seat of an FL5. Mark up is $8k minimum from what I’ve seen online.
400 miles on my 2023 N and I can just say that no car has put a smile on my face like this one. It is just so much fun to drive.
But slow... must have low standards of performance
Would absolutely agree. A smile every time I drive it.
@@davothegreat9990 Tell me you know nothing about the Elantra N without telling me you know nothing about the Elantra N. Or ever driven one, let alone been near one.
@ZXΩ-39 well I drive a new rs3 currently but did have a modded fk8 ctr. Absolutely destroyed any modded N around a track..
@@davothegreat9990 Of course a car that costs more money would perform better than a car that's cheaper. That's generally how it works.
But at the same time, the value of the EN for the performance it gives is just amazing. Someone with a manual EN had nothing but a tune was able to get 3.6 second 0-60 and 11.9 second 1/4 mile. The car absolutely has the hardware to perform. By no means is it the best, but I would argue it's the best value performance car you can buy right now.
Just discovered your channel just now. I got a lot to look through. Keep up the great work and greetings from Minnesota to you. Can’t wait to see what else do you have in store
Every tester uses the manual EN, which makes sense bc the CTR is manual only, but I'm telling you, put 255-265s on a DCT EN and I guarantee you the performance / difference between both cars falls within fractions of a second.
Topher coming in hot with the Monday content! My dude
The TypeR and CGR are great cars but what the EN offers in terms of driving dynamics and performance out of the factory at that price point is what makes this machine so special.
If you're broke, yeah.😅
@@davothegreat9990where is your EN CGR 😂😂
Hands down, you are the best POV reviewer on youtube. Keep up the great work. I own an Intense Blue Elantra N DCT and love it. Now for the Elephant in the room. You have alluded to a price of $50K but what did you actually pay to take your Type R out of the dealership? Mark on Savagegeese recently got his 2023 Type R and paid $49K. Unfortunately, the masses are subjected to being told to bend over and grab their ankles and say Sir may I have another.
This is a great comparison in *almost* equal segments. The rarity and how much detail and quality and control the ctr has definitely gives it a natural advantage
definitely not worth the price tag though. I think that's the major point of the video
the issue is that its double the price.. type R is extremly over priced... you can get so much car for 50k USD...
@@ASecureLab The average price of a new car now is 48K. Tell me what you can get for 50k that feels as special?
@@sharmilanraj So many option, especialy subjectively. To me the typeR is far from special as to me it feels HUGE and boaty. to me special/fun/sporty needs to feel small and nimble. For that kind of money you can have a bmw 440, mini JCW, Hyundai N products for half the price, fiat abarth for 1/5 the price.
The typeR is overhyped, its priced this way because they know fanboys will buy. I personaly would never pay BMW sportcar kind of cash for a glorified honda civic. Also lot of the options named are AWD and more confortable therefor they would also double as great daily and canadian winter cars.
@ASecureLab it feels huge and boaty? You're the first person I've heard saying that, and I've watched a lot of videos and read a lot of reviews. So, don't know if I can believe you there. Plus, I'm sure the handling and practicality of the civic type r is better than all the cars you listed, except for the electra N. Can't say much tho because I don't own any of them. In my opinion the interior of the ctr is the best looking out of all the cars you listed. The red just makes interior looks so good and unique. You make some good points tho. At the end of the day, it's really what you prefer in a car.
My 23 yr old daughter took delivery of her '23 Elantra N DCT in that light "graige" color (I don't know what it's called but that's what I call it) and it looks really good, handles and steers like a dream, and has good comfort all around. Very impressive car for the money. Fun fact - we were at the UT Auto Expo this past Fri and a small crowd had gathered around her E/N when she had to leave... With all of the far more pricey cars there, a group of guys "in the know" couldn't believe a petite 23 yr old girl somehow got her hands on one lol. She loves her car, btw.
Funny true story, my wife who is closer to 70 than 60 wanted to get one to replace her older Elantra. She just liked the new body panel shaping compared to her older one, should have seen the look on her face when we went for a spin in it. 😂 She said to the sales guy that “there is something wrong with the muffler on that car, it rattles like a tin can in a drum! “🤣😂
We ended up getting the new Sonata N-Line instead and love it.
@@markpaterson6024 That’s a great story 😂 Fun fact: my daughter with the EN originally thought about getting the Sonata N Line but it wasn’t sporty enough for her taste 🤷🏻♂️ I’d have gotten the Sonata just because it’s the more mature of the two and I’m 50 now so I’m not exactly trying to draw attention haha. Both are great cars.
@@mholmes9262i'm 30 and I got the N line one because the same reason 😂. I like the more mature looking cars(Chrysler 300, Accord, BMW series 5, etc). I'm glad I'm not the only one.
Very interested review. Enjoyed every second behind the wheel of both. 🧡
Cool video dude! I used to be into the little small fast cars for over 15 years but now I bought myself a '22 Tacoma manual & never even thought about looking back. I guess I missed going fast sometimes when I jump in my 95 GSR Integra but sometimes in life you need something practical. 🤷
Im a happy owner of DCT Elantra N, near a 1 year, in Feb 12. Is my daily driver car, sounds amazing special when the engine start to warm up, is fast, feel amazing in track like Road Atlanta, you can make great mpg I get between Cities 25-28 sometimes you can touch the 30mpg, in long trips I touched the 35mpg. For example I'm from SC when I go to Road Atlanta I get 380 miles from my house to Atlanta and come back with 1/4 in the tank and 70 miles to go all in 93 fuel. I love my EN. In two weeks I go to 24 hrs of Daytona so is a long trip, great for make better MPG.
Let me know when you want the keys to my tuned Elantra N for a track comparison. I actually have a set of 18x9.5 w/ 265's so it'll be the closest to an "apples to apples" setup as we'll get.
Heck yeah! Let's do Gingerman or M1 Concourse in the spring - we'll chat on ig about details. Really appreciate you letting me take it at M1 this fall, gave me a lot more context on the Elantra N's capabilities!
@@TheTopher Sounds good, we'll chat there. It might be interesting to use my timing equipment too. I'm kind of interested in seeing the time delta with the same driver with this new car.
Hey william I've seen your EN on some other videos. How did you fit 9.5 wheels on the EN? Any fitment issues?
@@vivalxd4668 18x9.5 ET45 is a direct fit with some front camber, which you should have anyways. Just get SPC camber bolts and max them out. The resultant toe change on Macpherson is not really enough to warranty an alignment, but feel free to check it.
Would the Elantra N still be reliable with a tune? That would void warranty? Yes?
I've been waiting for this!!!
Just on looks alone, I think the Elantra N is the best looking car out there.
As always, the most honest, true to life review on UA-cam! As an Elantra N DCT owner, I can say as much as I love my EN, it’ll never have the brand respect and pedigree Honda or the Type R nomenclature has. And as much as looks are subjective, I think the FL5 is an amazing looking car. I’ve learned to love the Elantra N’s looks, but there is a lot going on styling-wise. But one thing about me is I’m cheap and always looking to get the most bang for my buck, so there’s no way I’d pay $50k for a Civic. But I wouldn’t pay $50k for any car lol. So for $35k, which I can stomach, the Elantra N is the most entertaining car I could get. I’m 6 months in with 10,000 miles and zero problems. If the FL5 was priced what the FK8 was originally, I’d probably be trading the EN in right now!
Adjusted for inflation the FL5 is priced in line with the updated FK8. Shame its still so expensive though
Never is a long time. The major thing the N models have against them is the impending switch to EVs. Right now, there's no differentiator between electric motors. Of course, some are more powerful, some less, but the high revving, and charasamatic engines of pre turbo Honda's are special and hooked plenty of enthusiasts. Will there be something to differentiate EV motors? We'll have to wait and see.
Honda definitely has the pedigree and the street cred, but Hyundai was brilliant in bringing Peter Schreyer from Audi and Albert Biermann over from BMW M Division to work on the N. They did a fantastic job of making a practical car that you can actually track and have loads of fun in, all while being at an accessible price point. It really does kind of feel like a no-frills passion project.
@@ShaiyanHossain true, but add the dealer market adjustment onto that and you have a $50,000 price tag, and some dealers are adding even more.
@@kevincrockett5155 good point. Have you seen their concept car the RN22e? It’s essentially an N version of the IONIQ 6. If they make that a realty, I’m totally on board.
Great to see such a fair comparison, they really are apples to oranges when you consider the price and the availability. If you want a DCT or a hatch, there is only one choice LOL. I much prefer the look of my EN over the last gen CTR, but the new CTR is my favorite of the three. The base model Civic costs 25% more than the base Elantra, while the base CTR is only 32% more than the base EN. Yes, cars at those prices don't actually exist, but its interesting to see that the MSP differences are about what you'd expect for the step up in performance and interior quality.
Need more video like this ! Great
Great video, heated steering wheel in my N up here in Canada 🙏. Congrats on the type R.
Elantra N Is my favorite choice. For having a 17' Hyundai Elantra sport. I'd say that Hyundai is improving dramatically compared to the early 2000s.
They even have one of the best infotainments ever
I have the same tires on my FK8 in 18”. They work wonderfully in a Midwest winter. I actually leave them on until summer and have no regrets. Excellent choice.
Great video! How does the GR86 steering feel and throttle response compare to the Type R and the Elantra?
I LOVE the Type R interior. I wish that the old generation had that interior.
Disagree with 3:20, and I think most general public non-car guys will agree with me.
✅✅Elantra n reasonably looks more aggressive than the fl5, with all the lines and angles reminiscent of fk8, even with the smaller wing..
Fl5 has smooth body lines, which may make it blend into the crowd more. The Elantra sticks out like a sore albeit appealing thumb.
If the Type R actually sold for the 43K MSRP, it would be the (slightly) better deal. The fact that it’s being marked up to 55K means the Elantra N is by far the better bargain. You get the second fastest front wheel drive car ever built for 35 grand. That’s a steal.
The DCT is faster than the type R.. don't get why Topher keeps talking about horsepower deficits..... On a Dyno this thing is the same as the type r
Idk how 11k more for the Type R is a slightly better deal lol, if it was still just under 40k like the FK8 maybe, but Honda has lots its mind, but they know fans are braindead so they'll pay up.
Renault Megane RS is the second fastest FWD hatch btw but not sure Americans get it.

The horsepower deficit you talk about is on paper only...put the Elantra N on a dyno and it's almost identical to what you'll see on the 2023 Civic Type R. As much as the Type R is good, I would never pay the asking price for very close to identical performance !
Congrats on the new car ! Cheers.

Agreed , the DCT is quicker than the honda type r
@@mharro88 only in a quarter mile not in a longer race or from a roll
That's because Albert Biermann from BMW M designed it and BMW does the same thing with their cars. Bloody brilliant man

No one is talking about the fact you can get the Elantra N for msrp. You can not get the type r for msrp. For the price you can get a type r for you can get a way better car. So 35k vs 60k+ you cannot compare that.

The comparison we’ve all been waiting for. Thank you topher!
As a proud Kona N owner, I salute you fam. Thanks for the shout out.
Saw my first Kona N in Ventura CA and i fell in love; especially since low cars hurt my back and i still have that need for speed....
I’ve had my N for over 6 months and it’s hard to believe that Honda is charging almost 20k more for like 10% performance gains. You have to really be a Honda fanboy to justify it. Interior wise I don’t even think it’s close. The EN clears it
I agree, i think the en interior is better, if it had wireless android auto and a heated steering wheel, it would be out of the ctr's league. Throttle house lap time difference of the 2 cars is about 1.1sec, that's like a 1.4% time difference, and this is not using the dct which is faster, consider a tune and now the en dct is faster than a ctr. ua-cam.com/video/C_BAr5B6Tc4/v-deo.html
@@promobius4603 the lack of wireless CarPlay is weird especially since the lower tier Elantra gets it.

Nicely done comparison, You where non biased even though you own a type R, Good job!

Great review. How do the stereos compare?
While i was a salesman on a dealership i drove a LOT of cars . sedans suvs trucks and the smoothes ride out of all of them imo was the sonata . So i decided to get the N line. Im in love with this car.
I’ve had my EN since April and it’s been amazing at everything from hitting a backroad to driving my family around town!
I love my ‘22 Elantra N. I have the DCT and it just rips.
Man our roads suck here! Great comparison video.
From a Kona N owner, I do like the Elantra N as well. I like the idea of a type R but that price tag and the markup in some cases kind of pushed me away. i think at 50k that prices out a lot of people, IMHO. Thanks for picking the Kona though, I can't tell you how much fun that car is, I have about 6k on mine now. I put on some Yoko tires on it for the winter, I'll switch them out in the spring.
Elantra’s n out here and the fact that the type r doesn’t have a hand brake says it all . 41k but no hand break is WILD
Loved the video! I'm so happy the Kona N was mentioned so highly 👀 I chose my KN over the EN bc it's a hatchback and the short wheelbase (it's shorter than even the Veloster) makes it feel so agile. A lot of enthusiasts overlook it bc it's DCT only and a "SUV" but with just lowering springs or coilovers it becomes a hot hatch. I also have the DWS tires and they've been great
I got a EN but have same thoughts on the KONA N, I never hear anything bad about the DCT people actually say its better than the manual in the EN, I feel like for a daily the KONA N wins, it just gives you everything, even more comfortable seats. However, i hope my EN can make up for it on track days
@@BostonT_ can confirm the KN seats are comfy even after 2 Detroit to Chicago road trips :3
absolutely love my KN. most fun car
I don’t think the Kona N is comparable to the EN I just don’t think your going to have the same power transfer and is not going to be that same Corner rascal as the EN or VN.
I ended up going with a Golf R over a Kona N because I wanted the AWD that is offered on the Golf. I'm kinda surprised that Hyundai doesnt offer an awd system on the Kona N, considering they offer AWD on the non-hot versions of the car, including the N-Line. I definitely agree though, throw some lowering springs on the Kona N and you absolutely have a hot hatch, not a "subcompact SUV" or whatever its officially classified as
Hey Chris this is sorta unrelated but if you could daily one car for the next few years would you do it in your Type R or GX 460? I love both cars but can't seem to pick if I want a fun hot hatch with a manual or something that's gonna be bulletproof reliable. I have one kid so far and don't use the cargo space for grocery runs and the occasional wheel and tire hauling
Honestly the N is just better value. You're getting a cheaper bmw m2 for it's price engineered by the same team.
Costs AUD 54k in Australia, 72k for a civic
They're neck and neck on track
Personally I think the N is a better daily. More comfortable suspension.
Comes in DCT
The looks are the only thing that goes against it
Why would you bother paying 18k more seriously? Unless you're a rusted on Honda fan boy who froths at manuals.

Hyundai kia is really doing good cars. BUT . . . Honda civic type r is the pinnacle of FF
The mk7 and mk8 Golf R have ACC with the 6 speed manual. Great video!
I got my 2015 MK7 Golf R DCT brand new. It included the DCC/Nav/upgraded stereo and sub package. But it was actually hard to find one that didn't have that DCC/Nav package. All in all, the car was $38,910 before taxes.
Unfortunately, it was only in 2016 that it had a Driver Assistance Package that came included If you got the DCC/Nav package.
That driver assistance package included Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Forward Collision Warning and Autonomous Emergency Braking (Front Assist), Lane Departure Warning (Lane Assist), Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Traffic Alert, and Park Distance Control.
My 2015 didn't include any of that except for a standard backup camera and forward collision warning with simple beeping If I was parking and getting too close to the front curb for example.
When I read your post mentioning that My car had active cruise control I started freaking out that I had it for the last 8 years and never knew about it lol.
Jumped online and figured out that I was a year too early for all those safety features.
Great comparison video, would love to see one between the Type R and the GR Corolla (you’re probably tired of hearing that request)
Too bad they want 60k for a type R on Long Island. It’s a special car but for now might grab the EN. Very aggressive, pure no frills fun, good display, more features, the exhaust sounds and how you can change settings. 2 great cars. Wish they would beef up the SI a little bit to compete with the EN. Type R is definitely a cut above but impossible to find at MSRP right now.
Buy a USED one
Apart from driving dynamics, which the N has 90% of what Type R has, it's more modern, better exhaust, better infotainment and gauge cluster, comes with a DCT, and has heated seats for just around 35k. It's suspension is also more compliant for city driving. You're paying that markup close to 60k mostly for the red honda badge.
In circuit, N is 110% of CTR
@@bryanliu727according to who?? Where did you the 110% from? Just made it up like everything else...
glad to see someone else's winter tires are high performance all seasons like me
Thanks for your unbiased review. Imma go get myself a Kona N lol
Had one since July 22, I know you're going to love it
Wow that CTR was tossing the driver around in comfort mode on a normal bumpy road. EN was very well controlled on the rough surface. Iono CTR seems like a track machine only lol getting tossed around everyday can wear you out!
I would be a bit scared driving those Pilot 4S tires around at that temperature. I have a Veloster N and run 18" all-seasons during non-summer months. The Elantra N really takes the N cars to the next level. I love my VN, but the EN is really the next level with the N cars. I have not seen one in the wild yet. A number of CTR's in my area though.
Nice, fair review~
How would you compare the clutch feel?
Thanks for making this comparison despite the cars being in different price groups.
Considering MSRP on the Civic Type R and the guaranteed markups, I think the Elantra N is actually a better car for myself as a fun car that's efficient on the highway for road trips.
I have the fk8 and the elantra N i would say the suspension or build, because the type is built stiffer than the N but dam its very close if not the same as the type r its obvious that the type r is a better made car it has more engineering put in to it for circuit racing thats the difference other than that the N is in every way the same , and i know the fk8 and the fl5 are the same thing only that the fk8 in my opinion if a more track focust looking car ,the fl5 is to bland thats why i kept my type r and just got me the Elantra N it has more tech and the interior is nicer ,it has more to it than the red seats on the fl5 the way the dash is displayed to the driver the seats has the N logo that lights up and its has Alcántara suede in the rear seats , as a Honda owner the interior on all the hondas ive had are not top quality and i know that for a fact anybody that has a type r and saids it doesn’t rattle like crazy is lying the elantra n rattles but i guarantee you its way less just being onest for those that cant test both cars before bying
@@opadilla123 If your comments about track focus were true why isn't honda ctr winning in TCR like they did before Elantra N was released? Seems to me the EN chassis might just generate more mechanical grip. I say that based on the fact that EN (street car) is faster (than fk8) at shorter more technical road courses. Even though the fk8 clearly enjoys not only a tire and braking advantage but HP and certainly a top end power advantage as well. Not so sure about your "built stiffer/better made" comments. Do you have any actual information to back your comments up or is this just opinion?
even though im very heavily considering the elantra n as my next car especially given the price, i am still glad to see it being compared to the type r. both are amazing and honestly i think the elantra n deserves more recognition. hyundai did a great job with it and the fact that its great performance for only 33k starting price is just fantastic. cannot go wrong with a type r though, i have always loved that car. i just wish it wasnt so much. always enjoy your videos man, congrats on almost 500k
own a elantra N, would go with the N. Super fast for the class, amazing on the track, sounds good. can adjust exhaust output, suspension stiffness, sterring stiffness, etc all with heated seats base and yada yada. pretty solid car!
The Elantra N should really be compared to an SI. That is Honda's price bracket competitor, not the "R". And an Atlanta area Honda dealer just quoted me, $39k+ drive out on the SI !!! Lot of mark up!
Can’t wait for you to review the ioniq 5 N
I just lost my 2.0 MT Accord in an accident and I'm having a hard time finding comparable powertrain for under 30k. I'm trying my hardest to wait for the Interga type s to drop before I go shopping, but I need to be mobile ASAP. Any other suggestions to replace the grown man CTR around 30k?
You have to be a UA-camr in order to get the Type R for MSRP, so that definitely gives some points to the Elantra
i actully like the EN better , it feels more aggresive from this vedio
My 2023 civic sport dash is the same honeycomb love it
If the elantra had a lift back and actually looked good, I'd be saving up for one right now. Might consider getting a used Veloster N, but they haven't depreciated at all and are super hard to find. You're basically paying MSRP for something with 25,000 miles, and mechanically inferior to the elantra at that... I wish they had updated it instead of discontinuing it 😭
I have VN and it's not mechanically inferior, the only difference is that it has slightly bigger turbo, digital dash and shorter NGS cool down if you go for Dct
@@i.d.6492yes it is. It's a different platform.
I just have a hard time justifying the 50K+ for a Civic Type R..... At the end of the day, they are both econo boxes with a sporting flare. There are too many other vehicles in this price range that are far more functional and will leave the Civic in the dust. But obviously, a lot of people like them, so good for them, and Honda.
Chris, it would be a nice comparison to test both cars on the same off the shelf tire (read not bespoke) and similar size and wheel weight. I'd venture the EN chassis is able to generate more mechanical grip than fk8/fl5 as outlined above. A couple of EN pilots going high 12s and ~110MPH on a prepped surface with an aftermarket wheel/tire combo as the only modifications. I was surprised to learn the OEM EN wheel is ~30 lbs each... that is heavy. I get why Hyundai went that route (think C7 GS wheel issues) but a 30 lbs forged wheel really?
How can you get the elantra n below msrp? I'm having trouble finding them without markup. Still not as bad as the type r
In case no one has mentioned it, Hyundai worked with Michelin to produce a specific subset of the pilot sport 4s coded as HN. So it may have a positive impact on noise reduction.
It's also better built in terms of sound insulation. Remember it's heavier.
Are these tyres available at a shop or do you have to buy them through the dealer only?
@@shivamarya5225 dealer. They're also back-ordered so might take a while to get them.
@@meCmoni that's f'ed up because dealers sell them at full price and charge more labor too
@@shivamarya5225 Tire Rack sells the HN Pilots
I have a 22 WRX, but that Elantra N looks pretty nice. I really like the digital gauge cluster area. May need to test drive one. Type R is just a pipe dream at this point.
Edit: a few hours after this, my local dealer called me to tell me they're getting a Type R in a few weeks (I inquired about one recently). The Markup is $10k, so yep, pipe dream. Lol
Same here. I almost cancelled my WRX order when I saw the Elantra N at the car show but wanted to try AWD and all Hyundai dealers near me were marking up the EN to over $40k.
@@John-vh1fk crazy. In my area, they’re going for pretty much msrp
@@peterjazii6925 same here in new york/new jersey area which is a suprise
I actually owned a VB for 4 months as well. In my opinion, the EN just feels more ready from factory versus the VB. The VB does drive really well and I really liked the car but the infotainment was not my taste. The brakes are also a weak point as mentioned by almost everyone. Stock Dunlops are meh too.
The true value of the VB lies in the tuning potential and their availability. Lots of tuners are able to push 350+ whp/wtq on on platform with just 93 octane tunes which is crazy. Going to be fun to watch for sure. Enjoy your 22 WRX! I think it is overall a really solid car from my experience.
Shame you're not a UA-cam influencer
Hello, awesome review. Does the elantra N have brake hold function?
Yes. I own the 6sp N. It has brake hold.
And which do you prefer between your subaru brz or civic type R?
The Elantra N is just flat out an amazing car. Hyundai finally did it and now that they said it’s here to stay I can’t wait to see the refresh for next year❤️
What do you mean finally did it? The Veloster N has been out for a few years my dude and it too is a phenomenal piece. Looks better than an Elantra N to boot lol. But that accord type r is sick though lol.
@@slimv3.162 the veloster N was just lacking so much. But still a good looking car.
@@nmode22 just curious of what you think it’s lacking so much of?
@@slimv3.162 interior design… Awful! When I went to go test drive one I was very disappointed in the lack of the interior but I was in love with how you could customize things to your liking. Exterior was pretty nice but the three door thought was just way to odd for me. The Elantra was just a big upgrade and when I test drove it I was sold! Will love to see what this next gen brings.
@@nmode22 I’ll give you the simple interior design but I heavily disagree with you on the 3 door design. Here’s why, it’s a performance car that is designed for the driver that also caters to passengers. 1 big door for the driver and also 2 doors for passengers. I can’t stand driving a car that has a little door and has the pillar right by my head. To me having a big door is a huge factor. I used to have a charger then went to a challenger and the difference between doors and driver comfort was night and day for me but the lack of passenger doors killed it too. So the Veloster n imo is a perfect balance. I don’t think I could go back to a sedan ever again. Oh and that Death Star on the left side of the steering wheel on the Elantra n is just baffling stupid lol. Great performance though. Just not a driver focused car.
The only thing that the CTR has over the Elantra N is the huge community behind it.
…..and the looks, reliability, racing history, aftermarket parts, resale value, etc. Hahaha
@@JCizzleSoCal I mean some of that is true because of how new the EN is, 2022, it hasn't had time to mature. In terms of resale value, good luck getting anywhere close to your 60-70k that you're paying for a Honda hahaha
@@JCizzleSoCal Lmfao race history. how about the present ?
@@JCizzleSoCalit has those because of the community lol
The N is such a good value for your money up front, but its lacking on reliability, track history, heritage, resale value and breaking necks!
Which one has less rev-hang?
finally saw a Type R on the road last night .. loved it in person.
What mpg are you getting from the Type R? Also, I think the grey/alloy wheels are better than black 👌🏻
Also think it just looks better on 18s
Thought I'd check Autotrader Canada to see if there were any new Type Rs listed. Two came up, one for $81K and one for $89K, healthy markups over the $52k CAD MSRP.
Weird, cause I just checked and I see zero new Type R's and 7 used ones. The best price being a 2020 at 47k.
@@vroomgc My results brought up 78 cars with the only 2023 Type Rs in Abbotsford and Richmond.
The way you drive that Elantra N makes me buy one
how reliable is the elantra n motor ? does the turbo tend to fail, does it have transmission issues?
I got a Veloster N 2022 in November and i think it's better, the Type R is too expensive for what it is, with 20k more i could get a used Porsche so... I think i am pretty covered with my VN, the Type R is one of my dream cars, but man i don't get those prices, the Elantra N is pretty dope but i don't like the weird left "-" thing on the dash lol
Yeah... that's the problem with the Type R - Markup makes it not worth it (in my opinion). If I could get one for really close to list price I would for sure get the Honda but the N model Hyundai's make it a hard pill to swallow.
Plus, I'd rather have an SS 1LE camaro (or used porsche) for the 50-60k Honda dealers want for the Type R.
I would like to have @thetopher insight on fun/$ basis between stock Elantra N and stock BRZ. I don`t have the budget for a CTR but either a 2023 EN or BRZ are on my list. Looking at smile per mile here.
EN for sure. BRZ /GR86 2nd gen is a rip off.
Still I can't belive that export version of Elantra N doesn't have exterior vent, stearing heat and other nice options which we can choose in Korea. 😮💨
I was gonna ask when he was gonna break the type r in, I figured that out within 30 seconds of the pov drive😂
I appreciate what Honda has done with this car from an engineering standpoint. That said, I still enjoy driving my k series civic si more than these. That classic high revving Honda motor just does it for me, not to mention it weighs less as well.
I actually like the look of the SI better than the Type R just wish it had a bit more power
Nothing can beat a classic screaming 90s Honda Civic
Elantra N is a really nice car and for the price it comes is absolutely bang for the buck.
lol, you and tedward got the new Type R? who hooked you up? please let me know.. thanks
This is by far my favorite class of enthusiast cars. I'm so happy I managed to snag a Veloster N last year.
