Omg when I was 4 months in the 12 of chemotherapy, my body DEMANDED certain foods to counteract the poison. Key detail I wasn’t supposed to have sugar. One week I needed freshly squeezed orange juice -I hate oranges. I needed apple cobbler-not normal. And to my astonishment I needed spaghettios-I hadn’t eaten them for 30 years! As it turned out that was my last hurrah before everything tasted horrible. Btw I won and the cancer died!
With some jarred pasta sauces approaching $10, why isn’t everyone making homemade sauce like this? Quick and easy, adjusted to your own tastes for half the cost. A winner. Oh by the way I haven’t eaten spaghetti O’s for 55 yrs. 😎. Thanks for the vid and the memories.
I always make My own pasta sauce & pizza sauce. I can make enough sauce to fill 4 jars for about $10.00 give or take some change. Plus the only thing that goes into it is what I put into it, not what some schmuck in a sauce factory decides to put into theirs.
I want to make that dish on Wednesday, please divulge the name of the store in Little Italy so I can find some without driving from store to store. Little Italy’s just 5-ish miles from home so it’s not as if I need to saddle up a caravan to buy some pasta.
Definitely agree with you. Always make your own sauce from scratch, and that means using fresh tomatoes and other ingredients you want in your sauce. The quality of the canned tomatoes has also plummeted while the price has soared, so I try my best to not use them, and it has been several years since I have used them. I see the price at the store and I’m always wondering who would buy them!
I love the editing in this video! The dramatic shots are so fun. And the pseudo record scratch when the bowl slips. Nice job. Great video... I love how this channel is real cooking with good techniques but you guys don't take yourselves too seriously.
We call them Spaghetti Hoops in the UK - and as a kid having them on toast (like we have beans with thick bread and lots of butter) after being out in the cold is a great childhood memory - may have to try and make my own now, cheers Sam (and Boys).
Sam, when I saw this title on youtube I said ya gotta be kidding me. As I watched I thought hay this could actually work for the kids. And the basic sauce is great. Well Done
Fun fact! Not really but my opinion 🤣 there's no difference between the meatballs and the franks in the spaghetti-os! It's the same thing! I don't think i can bad mouth either. I grew up on them. It's not great but its kinda edible. Only now i get major heartburn just opening the can!😂👍 Im old!😅
Awesome, going to try this. We have been doing the same thing, we started making our own Beefaroni in the pressure cooker, great late night snack. We also make our own version of Hamburger Helper.
Blast from the past! I grew up eating Chef Boyardee’s meal kits - my mom liked the shortcuts it afforded her. We were ecstatic when the Pizza Kit came out, as there were NO Italian Restaurants or Pizza Parlors in the NC town I grew up in (at that time). I’m sure homemade tastes infinitely better, but that iconic taste is very nostalgic!
I can’t wait to see what you do with this! ❤❤❤❤❤ long time viewer here and I have notifications on so I can watch everything I haven’t binged yet 😂 love you all and love the sons of Sam one too. Plan to meet you some day lol I live in Texas.
You have to make your own O's by slicing cooked penne` pasta. Chef boy-r-dee adds cheese powder to their sauce. (1 can Campbell's tomato soup concentrate + 1 pkt kraft mac & cheese powder)
I can honestly say I never saw those in the pantry in my house growing up. I do remember how they smelled and that was enough for me. Mom's leftover spaghetti rocked hot or cold. I liked the spaghetti and meatballs that were in C-rations in my army days.
Night before last, we made meatballs (mixed pork and beef), mashed potatoes and gravy. We had 8 meatballs left over and decided to make meatball sandwiches with the tomato sauce recipe from this dish…it was so delicious! Thank you!!!
The only thing I disagree with is sugar in tomato sauce. I'm not sure why in America, people think this is normal. You could do a soffrito to balance out acidity, or toss in a carrot and remove it towards the end. And that would be way more natural.
I love SpagettiOs!! I haven't eaten them in forever though. Your's look delicious!! I didn't know you could buy the O pasta. We live near Little Italy in San Diego so I'm going to check it out 🤩 My boyfriend loves Mongolian BBQ. Could you please make it so we won't be intimidated to make it? Thank you for encouraging us all to cook more at home 🥰
Your spaghettiOs look so good! The way they should look. Haven’t had spaghettiOs since my teens! I’d smother mine with cheese after I scoop up a bowl, though. I have a thing for cheese. When cooking the pasta I almost always add some garlic, crushed or powder, and some diced green onions with a little onion powder. If you like your food spicy add a few pinches of cayenne pepper powder, red chili seeds, or diced jalapeños to the water you cook the pasta in. That helps to flavor bland pasta as it cooks. Thanks for the recipe, Sam!
When you're mixing the spaghettios with the sauce alone and the filter on the video turns greyish, that must have been the least appetizing thing i've ever seen in a cooking video. Grey and red 😂
And the blasting bass music that kills my ears because I'm wearing headphones, then when I get it turned down I miss Sam's next 2 sentences 😂. Who ever thought this was a good video idea 🙄
If you want better meatballs. You need to cook them on a rack with baking dish, parchment paper to catch the drippings at 350 until done and browned all around. So much tastier...
I just made this for dinner, except with linguine, because I’m an adult. HOLY F@#% was that sauce fantastic! Best I’ve ever had anywhere. Never buying jar sauce again. Thanks Sam and crew.
I worked as a district sales representative for Campbell Soup, which means Franco,American too I got free samples of everything we made, but I couldn’t eat SpaghettiOs without doctoring them a bit At least I got all the soups for cooking. I had cases of them.
I have found that any little pasta shapes made from Italy with just flour and water not egg always take longer then the egg pasta. Are those noodles made either egg or just flour and water? I found some online that I wanted to order

Canned tomatoes are ridiculously priced as well. Depends on how much time you have.

Jarred pasta sauce is nowhere near $10 in my area.
Flying to San Diego from Boston to have Not Not Tacos and Samburgers today! My wife and I are beyond excited. Thanks for everything you guys!
You will not be disappointed.

Looks amazing! The only thing I would do differently is liquify the sauce to match the texture of Spaghettios. Definitely inspired to try this out.
Franco American was better before Campbells bought it.
the mac n cheese was bad
@darcydeming8565 all mac n cheese is bad.
It is my firm opinion that the meatballs in canned Spagettios is actually used kitchen sponges soaked in bouillon. Yours looks fantastic!
Lol
Yeah, that would be legal.
You think they're wasting good quality bullion on people who eat canned spaghetti?
@@kurt3543 homie we ain't in kansas no mo. they don't care about legal.
Easy and flavorful. That's what I'm looking for. Good comfort food to remember childhood meals. 😎

Spaghettios is a very cheese forward sauce. Most of your sauce is good. Add a cup or 2 of cheese to that and I think it would be very rich.
