- Watch this short film to learn about the Nikahnama.
This 3 minute film explains the rights that may be conferred to the bride via the Nikahnama: what is given in the Mehr, the right of divorce (Talak), and even the right to a predetermined monetary allowance the husband gives his wife every month, etc.
The video includes contact information for various helplines, counseling services, and legal support services available to people who may have questions about their Nikahnama.
Aagahi is a public service campaign by SOC films aimed at informing women in Pakistan about their legal rights. These films are available free of cost to all media outlets for distribution across Pakistan.

The state should add NIC no. N copy next to name. N also blood test result should be included. It has happened to my friend who was married off to man had hiv. His family helped him hid this fact until after the marriage. With blood test not only hiv can be prevented but also other dieases such as aid n thalassemia. Do you understand English? You can make your own nikahnama. The contract in this video is specific for Pakistan and under Pakistani law, *but* you can be inspired by this and use it to create your own contract. You can also insert extra clauses, for instance what happens in event of divorce, alimony, financial support/maintenance from the husband to the wife and any kids they may have, assets division.

You are correct, ordinarily a woman cannot give her husband a verbal talaaq, UNLESS, as stated in this video, she stipulates that she wishes to have the same right to give talaaq, and her husband will also see this and sign if he agrees. Marriage is a partnership, both should work together for their success, and understanding a womans rights as well as a mans is necessary. Many don't explain to women what the nikah nama is, or create arguments if she wishes to add anything. Islam gives this power to women and most people have the clauses crossed out before she signs it. All should educate themselves before signing anything, as protecting yourself and stating conditions is a right given to you.
