Osama is BABAR SHER !! I lost 15 years of my life to this, I was a runner and a footballer, from a upper middle class family, went to the best schools of Lahore, and at last month of my active addiction I was found Od'ing on Canal Road two years ago. Osama's story made me relive the horrors of that life. this was more than just a podcast for me. I'm very grateful for a second chance life gave me. I'm clean for a year, working out 5 days a week, loving this life! thankyou for this podcast shazad bhai!

Shahzad... I will be 80 years old in 9 months. There have not been too many people i have admired; most have let me down eventually.
I admire you tremendously. I understand that as a young man struggling in a world where the weight of one's purse sets a persons worth, you must face a lot of frustration. But, my child, remember that money can be made overnight but Respect takes a lifetime.
I share your podcasts with friends and family; i want to see you successful in every sense of the word; but please dont lose your passion for the Good Fight. I am rooting for you!! ❤

His description of withdrawal is so familiar to me. I feel like i crave unconditional love or may be validation and that is like a drug to me, the people who have the supply of it know the power they have over me and use it, i do anything to avoid the withdrawal of my body and mind throwing tantrum to get a little bit of affection.

Someone I loved with all my heart said to me icily, “I know exactly what you want but I will never give it to you” - Those horrific words never leave me- when u love and crave for that love and attention and you give it all to a relationship yet you are attacked is something I learnt the hard way - it’s difficult to cut that supply of love but the sooner you do it the better you are for your mental health in the longer run.

Correction: Narcan is naloxone.. which comes in a nasal spray or given as an IM/IV injection … to reverse an opioid OD.
    .
Naltrexone .. which Usama was taking is a similar medication … but doesn’t completely block opioid receptors ( as does narcan)… it prevents the opioid “high” from being achieved .
As a psychiatrist , I really enjoyed todays podcast ( as I always do all of yours)… Kudos to Usama for so articulately telling his story… he resonated with addicts and their loved ones in 2 hours in ways that most professionals cannot after weeks of treatment .
    Bravo 👏🏽 👏🏽👏🏽

The whole idea that if you don't follow a narrowly defined idea of what a Pakistani is you will be cast aside which is so disillusioning and polarizing for everyone and no side wants to sit and talk under the guise of mutual understanding. Top drawer stuff

    Dear Shehzad Bhai,
Thank you so much for this podcast . It truly changed our minds and approach towards people struggling with drug addiction. Understanding the struggles they face and what they go through, without knowing this, we were unfairly forming a mindset that considered them as lesser beings.
I request you to continue creating more podcasts like this, so that the general public can become aware of taboos that are often too difficult to discuss openly. I truly enjoyed every minute of it.

This is such a great podcast and glad to see these conversations taking place in Pakistan even if it is on social media. I was a full blown alcoholic for the majority of the ten years I drank while living in Pakistan. I feel like I wasted my entire 20s drinking and struggling to function. There was no help or outlet in the end my doctor helped scare me to death on what I had done to my body and myself and I quit cold turkey its been almost been 10 years of sobriety now. But man the lack of understanding and compassion towards addiction in Pakistan is a massive issue and subsequently there are zero facilities or doctors that specialize in this field. Another issue is that often times mental issues are confused as drug problems and people are incorrectly treated.

Osama - I don’t know the circumstances and the reason behind which brought you to drug addiction but buddy hold it together now that you’re out of it. Don’t let yourself or your family down. There are people out there who need your invaluable experience to bring them out of this mess and misery
Shahzad - I know you should have million+ subscribers by now. It hurts when you put so much effort yet hardly any monetary reward but if you do something for long enough you will reach somewhere very very significant. On top of that, what is success to you? Making money? Or a driver of change? Let that decide if you want to do sponsorships of 5-10 lac

Honestly this episode had quite an emotional impact on me. Hope this opens the minds of people in power to what the true struggle in society is a class division that the 1% Pakistan never addressed

This is a whole new topic I learned about today!! Wow the insight. Loved it. Learned a lot. Your point about being made to feel about just our existence and Osama's point about politics at the end were sooo relatable. I am definitely a person who questions each and every action/thought of mine as am I going against Islam?

This most important line of this whole podcast, “drugs say nahi, ghur waloon say”
The importance and understanding the science of substance abuse is finally coming into importance. This is a huge podcast with critical discussion. It shouldn’t be taken lightly.
Hats off to the podcast host for discussing critical topic. However, there’s time and place for jokes and although you’re utmost aware most of the time, it is imperative to further practice the sensitivity of the topic.

@@ThePakistanExperience I didn’t think my response would’ve been reviewed by tue podcast host. But since it did, I’d like to add couple more suggestions. I listen to it from U.S. and only because you tackle some important topics that influence all walks of life. So great work on that.
I’d suggest including another platform such as Spotify, (again, im not familiar if it’s available in Pakistan).
Do more podcasts that are directly related to social issues of Pakistan and beyond.
Lastly, if you’d like, I can invest in your audio equipment to further enhance listeners experience.
      Thank you,
