It's Little Richard. 1964 UK TV Show
Вставка
- Опубліковано 29 жов 2013
- Recorded in Manchester, UK in November 1963 when Little Richard was invited into the Granada TV studios to tape this special while headlining a UK tour featuring, amongst others The Everly Brothers and a virtually unknown band at the time called The Rolling Stones.
Probably the best live performance ever recorded. Commencing with a storming version of William tell overture by Sounds Incorporated, Little Richard then opens with Rip It Up, after which The Shirelles sing two numbers and then join with Richard for the gospel number Joy, Joy, Joy.
Part 2 is all Little Richard, getting more frantic with each number as he storms through Lucille and Long Tall Sally. The soulful, Send Me Some Lovin' follows before Richard sets the studio alight with, Whole Lotta Shakin Goin On, Hound Dog, Good Golly Miss Molly, Tutti frutti, and finishing with a stomping version of Jenny Jenny.
Originally transmitted on 8th Jan 1964.
Enjoy.
The real king of rock'n'roll!
LITTLE RICHARD - - A THROAT OF IRON - - A HEART OF GOLD !
II`m so glad he came to our planet.
I am equally sorry he left it
Don't forget about the guiding hand of Esquerita, another gifted and wonderful visitor to our planet.
Little Richard did not need an engineer or mixer the man has raw talent period
He needed producer, Otis "Bumps" Blackwell. He told me his self!!
I love Little Richard. May his soul rest in peace
the best part ,i was there,,,what a day.
Richard is just amazing.
Lucky!
Lucky man!
Well, then you know I love you. I saw Sound Incorporated in '65, opening for The Beatles, Hollywood Bowl. Man oh man, rip it up.
Nice! Wish i was.
Praise God this bit of film has been preserved, as a showcase for this magical bit of modern music history, that it is.
Saw it at the time as was a big fan of Little Richard; great show (wasn't this set up by the great Johnny Hamp?)
I can't help with that, sorry.@@wendylewis4508
And that is why he is a Legend. The band backing him ain't so bad either.
THAT BAND NEVER MISSED A BEAT. DID THEY REHEARSE THIS CONCERT??? INTERESTED TO KNOW?
I saw Sounds Inc. open for the Beatles B4 I was 5. Always thought they were the epitome of square.. but now that Im older & bolder I can hear how solid they actually were.
P.S. Thee Shirelles kick good booty on this one!!!🎉
What a showman. He started with a bunch of kids tapping their toes to the beat, to full on rocking the house to the rafters.
Those Shirelles are gorgeous.
Definition of Rock n Roll
I was agog in 1964 and I'm still agog in 2022. The greatest Rock n Roll show ever!
I remember like it was yesterday, the whole school was talking about it the day after!
Simply a magical performance by all. Little Richard; the King of Rock n Roll.
R.I.P. Little Richard !
God has blessed with so talents....the one and only Little Richard.
God has blessed Him with so mush talents....the one and only Little Richard.
MY GRAMPS MET HIM AND HIS BOYFRIEND AT AT NIGHT CLUB 😊😀😄😄
I love listening to him, the young Little Richard and the Older Little Richard.
And that lead singer with the shirelles has an amazing voice!!!
FANTASTIC !!!!!!!! How dare one man have that much talent. Blessed is right.
This is giving me goosebumps…we’re not worthy! All hail King Richard 🙌🏾
What a master at his craft. Godspeed Little Richard.
He took everyone to church and then hit the keys. Oh my, ohhh my. Only once in our lives comes along a Little Richard to change music, no matter the genre, and gave his gift freely. Oh, a talent, his likes never to be seen again.
Probably the best live performance ever recorded. Right enough.
R.I.P. Little Richard. What a showman you were!
The Originator and King of rock and roll, rest in peace, 5-9-20.
One of the BEST! Still gives me goosebumps & I just turned 70!
This ...Ladies & Gentlemen, is the essence of Rock`n`Roll !!!
Where? I just see a cover artist
@@haitiansouljadex3186 SEE AN EYE DOCTOR!
RIP to The Innovator, The Originator, and The Architect of Rock and Roll
No way
To James Fitzgerald, hope I've spelt that right , it doesn't seem to be a native American name,.But then again America doesn't have a true history without the true native Indian. And the people of your land. It doesn't belong to any of us. It belongs to the universe, we are supposed to look after her. Which one do you think Will win? It's usually the one that's been here longer.
In those days, the Shirelles ruled!!!
Little Richard is a supreme talent, but that backing band is amazing as well. These arrangements are top notch.
LOVE LITTLE RICHARD!
Best rock concert ever televised.
How? He just cover songs and make them last 6,7 minute
@@haitiansouljadex3186 his energy, the power behind his voice, his influence, EVERYTHING
@@gaveeen3800 bullshit😂 the jerry lee lewis one was better
@@haitiansouljadex3186 Ha, most rock and roll artists of the time did this.
Fantastic
Not only did he have a ton of talent but that smile is amazing.
I'm back again, this show is incredible, I'll always keep watching it. Little Richard puts so much joy into it, this is the best Rock n Roll of all, the real nitty-gritty stuff. Everyone there in the studio must feel the same way - people in the audience, Sounds Incorporated musicians, cameramen, the lot must surely regard it as a great highlight in their lives. Lucky devils, wish I'd been there!
The Ramones commented favourably on Little Richard. Raw music back in the 50s, 60s, 70s. Lou Reed a man and just his guitar. That’s my philosophy.
Cheers.
Watching this over you really realise how awesome Little Richard really is, this has to be the most powerful concert. My head almost came off when he started and didnt stopp till the end.
What a voice!
The Shirelles THE ARTIST EXCELLENT BEAUTIFUL
One of the few artists who makes me so happy, I cry.
Little Richard was my dad's favourite artist. Dad used to throw the collywobbles at my choice of music. "Turn that bloody racket down!" I was listening to metal. Overkill by Motorhead always was played at full blast. Now that (former Hendix roady, Hawkwind bassist and founder of Motorhead) Lemmy has died. I decided to watch Lemmy, The Movie. Surprise surprise!!. Listed amongst Lemmy's heroes and inspirations was L R. Along with Jerry Lee, Elvis and The Beatles. Lemmy always signed off a show with Overkill. The shows finale; but before that inimitable, ball busting double bass drum and Lemmy's rickenbacker bass thundered in, he would always say " Thank-you, good night. We are Motorhead and we play rock and roll" Long live rock n roll! This show was filmed in Manchester too. The greatest city in Britain. Sod London!!!
SIMPLY THE BEST ROCKnROLL ever he passd away 2 year ago RIP
wow Little Richard is 82years old now Happy Birthday so nice in person we see him all the time out here in Nashville
one of the nicest men I have ever had the opportunity to meet, had a fling with him in 1989 in Reno during Hot August Nites rod run

A great musician and a greater entertainer as well as the architect of rock and roll
What a star he is and what a backing band........................awesome
At first they were very restrained, as he went further into his show, they lost all control. This is an entertainer!
Man, he just keeps bringing it and bringing it. Just pure energy. Love it, love it, love it.
Oh, my soul !
RIP, the greatest rock and roller of his time. The world will miss you
Of ANY time
I'm so glad we didn't lose these records to time. And the fact that the majority of them have been restored!
Little Richard was a perfect show man and musician. It would be great if someone could colour the film through deep learning.
So glad to find this one on this night that he passed. Goosebumps for me during WHole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On... RIP Little Richard.
A kindly person commented on an article in the London Review of Books about Little Richard and included this link. Considering the success they had in introducing Americans to American music, I guess it's only fair to get this link from a British publication.

Absolutely brilliant
LITTLE RICHARD, LONG LIVE THE KING!!!!!
great show! the king of rock n roll !
I remember Little Richard with all of these songs on the radio and juke boxes as early as 1956? 1957?
These people all.polite, seated & quiet, by the time Little Richard was finished with them---the place is jumpin!
I remember watching Little Richard in Lewisham. Just insane! An amazing memory. The police finally came in on mass and pushed the audience out of the theatre because they were worried about a riot. Great times.
about thirty years ago I tuned on PBS.and saw this concert an encore performance from England .what can I say. just the best. I love the kids in the audience.they looked pretty mod.
Groundbreaking performance! The Architect of Rock n Roll🤘❤️🇨🇦
Little Richard Is The greatest performer
I always keep coming back to little Richard and I wonder why ..oh yeah because he is the God of rock n roll
6 hits lol
more like 8 or 9, but you see Elvis was white and had better representation then LR or Chuick Berry, which is why he got so famous

@@scienz Yeah, sorry...I was preparing a thing on Richard and went with the timings I had...
Always thought Sounds Incorporated were rather underrated. They were great musicians and really complemented Little Richard.
I remember watching this as a teenager, it was a revelation, it fired me up, and the rest of my generation like illegal substances do today for the unfortunate musical excitement lacking youth of today, I can still fell the music inside me, and I am now aged 72, great days, great memories, great artists.
I am 46 and I can relate to your words' of wisdom...I lived my teens through the1980's and spent most of it recreating this era of music...
Great music, mind blowing performer ...the man built rock music. Yet I find your comments pretty funny. Penniman was a very heavy drinker and at time a coke addict. And you're extremely naive thinking drugs were not part of the lives of musicians and some of their followers in 1964.
Your comment that music today lacks excitement is farcical beyond compare, and leads me to ask when the last time was you attended a concert by musicians born subsequent to say 1985.
I'm an old guy of 60 and I get it. Too bad as it seems you once loved modern music and have missed out on so much great stuff overt he decades.
plus he was gay to boot!!
That drummer is fucking amazing. He's equal parts clean, precise and best of all: fucking loud.
Lenny Shelby That, Sir, is Tony Newman, who played with the Jeff Beck Group and T.Rex, amongst others!
@@UglowD Thanks for telling us his name. I became a T. Rex fan kind of after the fact. Great Performance!
I wonder if any of the Beatles, Robert Plant, David Bowie or any of the other countless British musicians who admired and site Little Richard as a major influence were in the crowd during this performance? Never has one musician influenced so many, yet received so little recognition for it as Little Richard has.
I believe the Brits were the first to welcome black artists. They recognize great talent. Please Mr. Postman was first sang by the Shirelles and then the Beatles really made it a hit. Sad though many black arts were ripped off when it came to doling out the cash. Brunswick Label in the US (a recording label) ripped off artists big time. Jackie Wilson made them millions and when he died he had no health insurance, no headstone for his grave. It was truly sad what happened to him.
_ black girl rocks eria
David Bowie was at one of Little Richard"s London shows supported by The Rolling Stones and Bo Diddley in 1964.
Keith Richards' autobiography has lots of great anecdotes about this time and how fast the influences were coming at them and how fast they were then turning them around.
Totally Bowie and Beatles / Lennon. All the way
What a performance! One of the great live performers, one of the Greats, whose career encompassed fine early 50's Jump Blues/R&B, R n' R, Gospel and Soul-his mid-60's Okeh sides have rightly enshrined him for all-time as a Northern Soul hero here in the UK,just as his 50's Specialty /UK London classics made him a hero of the Teddy Boys. An all-time hero to both the Teds and the Soulies-not many could claim that! We'll always love you Richard-thanks for the music.RIP
Incidentally at 16.37 we see Jimmy Savile (cringe) and sweet Jenny Moss (Coronation Street actress and Joe Meek recording artist) and at 21.43 them again, dancing with (right) Jenny's Coronation Street co-star Chris Sandford ,who was, also,a short-lived Pop star at this time
Rock 'n' Roll doesn't get any better than this. I saw Richard and Sounds Inc. several times on stage in the UK and they were fantastic. At one stage Richard pretended to faint and collapsed on the floor. The Safety Curtain was lowered. Announcements were made to enquire if there was a doctor in the house. When the Safety Curtain was lifted Richard suddenly jumped off the floor and roared into 'Good Golly Miss Molly'. He then announced 'You think we're tired - well we haven't started yet". They don't make entertainers like that anymore.
Well, I knew James Brown was a Little Richard fan, but I never knew he stole that schtick from him too :)
Very interesting thank you. I also never knew JB stole that from him.

bomfpofavel very good
Brian Quinn
James Browne did a version of that later with the Cape thing....
Thinking of the young David Bowie watching this live at Brixton and thinking 'this is the future of music'
Then his wife gives him a special present, a coat of Little Richard's. David said Little Richard was very big. The jacket was so big for him. A treasure, though.
Just a great show! Blessing to you, Little Richard

Electric atmosphere by the elite entertainer who embraced the moment and emerged inspite of you name. What a terrific testimony of greatness!
Brilliantly backed by Sounds Incorporated. A joy to watch and listen. Better than anything that may be on the TV.
Sounds Incorporated were the friends of the Beatles' whose sax section played on the Beatles' "Good Morning Good Morning."
Pure Rock and Roll. The Great Little Richard.
One of, if not the most impacting and influential artists of the 20th Century. And what a stage presence and stage performer.
THE KING !! THE LEGEND IN THE MAKING FROM MACON, GA.!!
Wow he will always be a legend! I’m honored to know he was my cousin...I wish I could’ve met him before he passed... RIH family..
Smiling through the tears. He had them in his power, what a powerhouse.
Your spirit will live on
Peace...Richard ❤
I saw him live about 12 years ago . Best performer I ever saw and the nicest. He came outside and signed autographs and talked with everyone after for as long as it took. I'd been to that venue a lot and never saw anyone else that genuine. He also brought a box of prayer books for anyone to take free who wanted one. And the administrators of the venue said he was very easy to work with. (Unlike Diana Ross who was one of the worse)
Lil Richard is the true originator/creator of R&R. No doubt about it.
@@aarondigby9859 he also adopted a baby boy that was left at his church.
Best live performer ever
Amazing entertainer. I'm lucky to have seen him live when I was a child.
I watch Little Richard doing Whole Lot of Shakin' and I am just swept away with the song, always leaves a smile on my face. The backing band are having as much fun as the audience! Good music never dies and what an entertainer he was. Love it.
I watched him live in The Domino Club on Grey Mare Lane Manchester twice, both times the audience would not let him off the stage, I later seen him in two other Venues in Manchester, he was magic & will never be matched as an entertainer & great musician.
Little Richard is a bad ass. He was born + grew up in my hometown of Macon,GA. He put Macon on the map. Greatest black rock + roller of all time. Period.
