Been pulled over once for passing a CHP motorcycle officer. Not speeding, just passing... in the passing lane. Told me to never pass CHP on the freeway and took off. I chalk it up to jealousy since he was on a Harley and I was on a Z H2.
Agree, with one caveat. Don't assume your bike will stop as fast as it starts. Make sure you know your bike's breaking distance. Some aren't that good.

This is so true, my 04 yzf600r brakes are terrible compared to my 08 fz6, when you ride it everyday you can get used to it but bike to bike can be completely different
3:27 It really doesn't matter what you were doing before hand, if you stop, the cops WILL pull you over and assume you're guilty. You could've been completely legal and safe the entire time. It could even have been a group that you just happened to bump into and rode along with for a few minutes. In a cop's mind, all bikers know and are buddies with each other. There's an infamous video where a guy stopped at a red light while everyone else around him blew it, and the cops pulled HIM over. I'm pretty sure most of us have seen it. This isn't rare, I've seen it happen too often. I even saw a guy get pulled over for the actions of the squids that were riding nearly a quarter mile ahead of him Tldr: Careful who you ride with, because the cops sure as shit won't care
That's why most riders have an equal indifference to cops. If that mindset wasn't prevalent, we wouldn't see so many videos of riders trolling and running from the cops. I myself aren't going to try to run, but I also have zero sympathy for Officer Barbrady and Chief Wiggum when they decide to let their egos get the best of them.
tbh this would be the perfect situation to be in. you could not only very easily get the charge dropped but possibly sue for the officers actions against you for other people's choices. if you weren't doing anything wrong at all and they ticket you for someone else you will have an extremely easy case to sue the department.
Never been pulled over on the bike. Closest thing was when I stood up to stretch my cramping legs when pulling off the freeway into the home stretch, and a cop blipped his lights and siren at me. Must have thought I was about to do a wheelie or something.
Honestly, if you are gonna do dumb stuff on a bike, get a naked bike. Supersport bias is 100% a thing. Been pulled over for plate a couple times, never got a ticket. 😂
I can't, naked bikes are just ugly in my opinion. Only naked bike I like is the XSR 900 cafe racer. And if I ever wanted to give up the sport bike life I would get a cruiser but never a naked.
@@M16xDr0pSh0tz naked bikes are only slower after 120ish. So unless you spend the overwhelming majority of your time past that, it's a non issue. They are also super comfy. It may not be your particular thing, but they exist and sell super well, so obviously there is a market for them 😂
In '86 I was riding in a fairly large city, and was following all traffic laws. Came off the interstate, double clutched and blipped the throttle as I came to a stop at the light, and one of the Boys in Blue, who was sitting to my right at the intersection, pops his lights and motions me to the side of the road. I was mystified, but of course complied. The cop saunters up while I turn the bike off, keeping my hands where he can see them. He of course asks to see my license, and then says, "Oh you DO have a motorcycle certification." I reply in the affirmative, inquiring as to why I was pulled over. He says, "I've never seen an SRX6 up close, and it sounds so sweet, I decided to pull you over and check it out." Then he laughed, gave me back my documents, and told me to ride safely. Always get your certification.
here's one: action cameras mounted on the helmet or facing the rider. Police will do an insurance check since they assume that if you have cameras mounted this way you're vlogging for youtube. Why do they do an insurance check? Because vlogging is deemed a commercial activity, and commercial activity IS NOT covered in normal SD&P policies. If you get pulled with a cam on and you let slip that you're recording for youtube you stand to have your bike SEIZED. Because you don't have commercial cover.
You can also not mention anything to do with commercial activity and just say you’re keeping the recordings for personal safety and documentation. I was asked by an officer once and I told him my Ace Pro was effectively mostly a dash cam fill-in and he actually agreed with the usage.
Love the 86 Honda VF500F Interceptor @2:02, I had an 84 Honda 500 Interceptor as my first bike and absolutely loved it. Loved it so much that I bought the VF750F the same year. Great bikes. ❤
One funny helmet fact I know is here in Belgium we get a lot of Dutch people riding a low class 50cc without a helmet, perfectly fine in the Netherlands but illegal here and every time one gets stopped their only excuse is "it's legal in the Netherlands" completely forgetting they're no longer there
I have been pulled over on my bike once. I had been riding for three days and I was turning left onto a 4 lane road. Those lanes are really big when you’re on a bike. I managed to pull onto the wrong side of the road and was unable to get over as there was a concrete wall. Rode another 10 feet and there was a red light for the direction I was travelling. Pulled a right hand turn as soon as the crossing traffic allowed to get myself back on the correct side of the road but was lit up immediately. Pulled off into a side street took my helmet off and turned the bike off while the officer was still getting out of his car. Explained I’m an idiot that got lost. He was happy to tell me to be careful and continued on with his day.
Got pulled for going through a bus and taxi station at 3.30am to go get to work which saved me about 3 minutes on a 10 minute journey (because traffic light sensors are shit in England), made me go the long way round and followed me 😂 (also, was midweek, buses don't run after 8pm where I live)
in my area you are almost never pulled over for a loud exhaust due to the fact every Harley has one, so it's just become kind of a normal thing that motorcycles are loud. put a full pipe on my R3 2 weeks after i bought it and ive had it for 4 years. never pulled over mostly because i ride at a relaxed pace
Damn dude, your channel has gotten huge! I remember watching you waaay back in the day in 2015 or so when I bought my R3 and started riding. Probably found you as you rode one as well/reviewed it. Now 9 years later, holy shit! Well done on the channel
Pulled over for speeding in western Colorado. Cop say "bikes don't usually pull over" then proceeded to give the only bike stupid enough to pull over a ticket. Learned my lesson... Haven't been able to ticket me since
In Michigan you can ride without a helmet, but to do so you are required to carry an extra $40,000 in medical insurance for you and every separate individual that will ride with you. From talking to the Harley bros around here, most of them have no idea about that, they just heard "helmets no longer required" and stopped wearing them. Thing is that if you're in an accident, at the very least you now have a $40,000 deductible before your normal health insurance will kick in, and it's possible your liability and/or full coverage will deny coverage as well since you were "riding while not carrying legally required insurance."
Your correct I see all kind guys here in Michigan riding without brain buckets it their funeral. I've been in the street for 40 years raced dirt and I can tell you every time I crashed my head bounced off the ground. I don't say anything I just put on my modular bucket. I'm very comfortable with it.
Not active until next year, with plenty of stipulations. It is surprising however, that such things could ever get passed the legislature in such a left leaning government.
I got clocked at 87 in a 55 and thrown in jail on a bogus warrant from another state last August. Because I was able to clear the warrant and have the case dismissed in Indiana, the judge saw fit to reduce my ticket down to 80 in a 55. That meant no suspended license, 4 hours in traffic school cleared my points, and it cost me $215. I know most of the local police now, and the ones who ride watch my channel. They are not all out to get us.
One of the first life lessons any driver should get down solid. The words "Angry" and "officer" NEVER mix in the citizens favor. Sitting on the side of the road, with a squad car parked in back of you, the two biggest threats you have, are your own mouth, and your attitude. We ALL make mistakes. And, we all get caught doing them. Personally, I have walked away unscathed, for stupid mistakes that I fully deserved to be hammered for, simply by being honest, and respectful. He or she is only trying to do the most aggravating, thankless job in America. Getting them angry, is only going to cost you in the short term, and the long run.
Here in Australia they are starting to trial Noise Violation Cameras. Works the same as a speed camera but it measures the drive by decibels and then sends you an EPA violation. The police rarely care about it but the government see it as a great opportunity for revenue raising.
I read they tried this out somehwere and everyone in the neighbourhood took their bike right to the camera to see who had the loudest decibels. It didnt stay up for long
Around two decades ago, Florida used park trailers on the side of roads that displayed speeds. We used to go out and see who could post the highest score. I had a 700hp Viper, so the speeds got up there. 😂 They eventually set up so NO triple digit speeds would display.
In Denmark lanespliting is illegal. But is you hold at a red light and you se there is room between the car in front and the line to the left, you are allowed to pass without crossing the white line.
I was rolling into Carson City Nevada on my Victory Cross Country in the right lane going 5 miles[60 mph] under the speed limit. I saw in my mirror,a large black truck come flying up behind me and proceeded to tailgate me . [ No traffic around me,except the truck and me] so by instinct dropped a gear, and full throttle to 85 mph, then slowed down. It was a Nevada Highway Patrol truck! Nothing happened! He backed off and I continued on my way. WTF!
When I was riding Harleys excusivly, I got use to being stopped all the time for my pipes, which while being aftermarket, did have decent baffels in them. One time I had an officer run his nightstick up them to see if I had baffels. Another time, the officer not only wrote me up for modified pipes, but took a glove off and ran his hand over the turn signals to see if I had DOT embossing on the lenses (I did not). This was a motorcycle officer and inside one of his bags, he had several abridged Harley Davidson aftermarket cataloges to reference illegal parts. The local Harley dealer wrote an open letter to the police department stating that he felt Harley riders were being targeted by the police. I now ride a 2016 Moto Guzzi V7 II Stone which is stock except for upgraded suspension. I don't the hassle of being pulled over just because I'm on a Harley.
You should come here to the Philippines. It’s a “free for all”. It’s like 30:1 MCs to cars. Stop lights are like the staring line of a sports race. Fortunately, most bikes here are under 200cc. Lane splitting here is expected. It’s more like, fill any empty space available until the traffic starts moving. Flip flops optional.
I live in a small town and my bike is seen at the court house sometimes multiple times a day. The cops know who I am, know where I work, and the older ones I probably used to work with at some point. Bottom line tho, is that if I'm feeling froggy, there are mountains, canyons, and pretty open desert highways within 10 minutes of town. So we are chill in town.
I was pulled over in Southlake, Texas, when my DesertX was around 6 months old. The LEO stated that the reason for the stop was because the license plate WAS registered to a different motorcycle. Found this odd because TDPS produced this plate and assigned it to my new DesertX at the time of purchase from Dallas Ducati.
I saw a video recently where a guy in California was given a citation for having a gopro on his helmet. The cop said it comprised the structural integrity of the helmet. Gave him a ticket and made him take it off.
Got pulled over once for riding my ninja 500 in the bicycle lane.... by a cop on a bike. Luckily i was doing less than 5mph and traffic was stopped. Dude let me off with a warning after thoroughly lecturing me about "just because people call them bikes doesnt mean you can drive in the bike lane" lol
I'm glade I found your channel. I've been riding since 1965. I really enjoyed you video. I passed a long line of cars one time, because the front car was only doing 35 in a 55 zone thru a few miles of no passing zone. Now back then I was riding my 1976 H-D Superguide FXE, Well when we approached a passing zone and no one was going to pass the car, I let the old shovel head have all the throttle I passed all 14 or so cars and trucks. when I passed the slow car and just made it in time for the no passing zone but I was in my limits. So I'm cursing up the road pretty good now about 55 - 60. Next thing I know is a state trooper is pulling me over, The trooper was saying I exceeded the passing limitations of the passing zone. I said I'm sorry Sir but I cut back in with two lines left, He said it didn't look that way to me. I told him I guess not you were 6 cars back in the traffic and there was no way your could have seen exactly where I cut back in at. When the trooper came back from his car, he handed me a warning ticket. Wow what a relief that was. The funny thing is , the cop was in a unmarked car, and I had no idea he was in the traffic or 6 cars back.

I got pulled over for doing 120mph in a 60mph zone in he UK a few years back. (twice the speed limit AND over 100mph=both jailable offenses) Lucky for me, all four cops in the unmarked cop car were wearing motorcycle leathers, and I got away with a slap on the wrist. Definitely luckier than winning the lottery on that particular day
My state has a law that allows bikes to actually run red lights if the light doesn't change for over 120 seconds and it's safe for them to proceed. I never thought I'd have to use it till one day I went to visit my mom on a Sunday in the middle of nowhere. I'm the only vehicle that comes to a red light and wait 5 minutes despite knowing that law just cuz I wanted to see if it WOULD change to green. It didn't, so I said " Fuck it, the law lets me do this, and if a cop sees me and stops me I got a camera on my helmet to prove I did it legally"
In Australia we are expected to walk over and hit the pedestrian button. Some cars park too far back as well. I had to get out and tell a lady that she was not close enough. She looked at me like whatever D Head but still moved forward. We got the next green.
10:01 Also know that if you don't look like you belong on the bike you are on, some of our friends in blue will be unfairly sure it's not your bike, and try to get it returned to the owner before you strip the parts off it. At the very least it's an invite to be stopped and asked some interesting questions.
Hundreds of times ! We believed as kids that if your bike was going faster than traffic then you could not get hit from behind . we chased the temptress of speed untill the bikes got fast enough for us to see reason !
After many many years in law enforcement i can say that a lot of us just looked for obviously issues, helmets, plates visible, insurance requirements, all the lights work and no extra crap like underglow
Lane-splitting is one thing I have just accepted as something I don't get to partake in simply because of the vehicle I've chosen. Currently riding an ADV bike so I'm too wide to split or filter usually. I also don't get to enjoy remote start because I buy manual cars and trucks, and I don't get to enjoy 20+ inch wheels because I like ride quality and I can't be bothered to baby my vehicles around potholes.
I feel like I seen a video or two from PA where they've been pulled over solely for having a cam on the helmet. Like no other moving violation, just a reason to right tickets.
Got pulled over with a modded exhaust on a metric cruiser quite a few years back. Cop apparently had his wife run off with a biker because my exhaust was legal (baffles installed). He gave me "what for" and I did what I shouldn't...I argued right on the side of the highway. Gave me a warning after I told him we could argue more in traffic court because I was going to fight it. He got fired for harassment a few months later when he did the same thing to a group of out-of-town lawyers.
Been riding since 1978; still. No “Hardly” shit either. My rules for success: practice panic braking more than pulls. Practice slow speed. Don’t trust any vehicle. Brake/evade first…horn second. TAKE CLASSES. AND- Avoid riding while drugged, drinking, drowsy, late nights/early mornings, group rides- AND….That will eliminate about 75%!
Never been pulled over while riding... I keep the trips up to triple digits to just a few seconds (about as long as it takes to get there), then coast back to normal driving speed (usually about 5 to 10 over the limit like all the other traffic does).
I ride my dirtbike on roads here cuz im not old enought to have a road bike, i get hot in my gear but i always wear a helmet, knee and elbow pads, bike shoes and of course a helmet, doesnt matter how hot it is.
Only ticket I ever received was for 64 in a 35 on a Triumph Rocket. Not in the city, this was in the twisties going up 89A to Prescott Arizona. I never realized how much of a speed trap that road is till I got nabbed. It’s a cash cow for the city.
4:07 the city i live in has a decibel law specific to motorcycles, any motorcycle with a 3 or 4 cylinder engine cant be louder than 92Db at idle AND 100db at 5000rpm
In Britain most criminal motorcycling is now thieves on small scooters, so if you want to be left alone you're better riding a big bike especially ones with luggage boxes as they usually shout experienced legit rider
Videos like this make me think that motorcyclists are horribly discriminated against in the US. The rules and things that can get you in trouble seem crazy! I've been driving / riding for 20 years in the UK and have literally never been pulled over or had any police interactions... Is it really that bad there?
Most of the time, no, they're fine. There's always the chance you come across one having a real bad day who decides to take it out on you. Motorcycles draw more of this aggro than cars do, sportbikes most of all. Certain agencies also deliberately encourage cultures of being nit-picky tightasses (California Highway Patrol, Massachusetts State Police, etc.) which means at least half of them are always having a bad day.
@@pg.travels Gotta remember that even if the "gross"/total incidents filmable are higher, the USA is a vast and populated area compared to most countries, let alone european ones, so the online presence can feel oppressing completely separate to the actual percapita incidence. Most people aren't filming themselves interacting with police, let alone posting it to the internet. And, ofc, why would someone post (or you watch) some normal ass traffic stop? The internet specifically selects for the outrageous, whether in police interactions or cat videos.
Got a minuscule number plate on my 750 and on my scooter. Never got stopped on the 750 but dozens of times on the scooter. Got 2 tickets for my number plate, by the same cop in 8 years of riding. In the UK they don't really care about exhausts, if they wanna nick you, they go straight to your tyres and insurance/mot/tax
I get pulled over less not having a license plate. They think I’m just going to run. Just have everything on ya when you do get pulled over. They are usually chill.
What have I learned? Don’t go 90 in a 65 if you don’t want your mirrors full of Dodge Charger lol. But it ended well, Between a license and insurance and finding the right words to use, I was able to talk my way out of it some how. While speeding is not a problem I generally have, as I told the officer I really needed to blow the carbon out of my carbureted bike and I haven’t worn a young man’s clothes in 40 yrs , so he realized he wasn’t dealing with the run of the mill juvenile lol Be Safe out there kiddos, Don’t ride like Grandpa!
In New Zealand cops pretty much leave bikes alone unless your doing something pretty stupid. In the near 15 years I've been riding I can't think of anyone I know that has been pulled over by a cop.
Oh, my yes - but waaay back in my youth. S Fl in the 80's were great! Empty in the summer months and I'd get stopped all the time, BUT I literally knew all the cops personally in Broward & Palm Beach counties. Ah, the good 'ol days...😎
Luckily there are literally two motorcycle dealerships on the highway exit i live near. So i live in a motorcycle town. That helps a lot with not getting pulled over. I always see at least two or three more bikers on any given average ride that lasts 20 minutes or longer.
What's with the ADV rider hate? They tend to be some of the best riders out there and understand that the engine cage, fog lights, handlebar guards are there for safety and protecting the bike when you inevitably drop it because it's so top heavy.
Yammy might know the area but 290 out to lake Somerville is an amazing road. I passed a trooper who was going 75 in a 65, I was only going 80. As long as you aren't being psychotic here in Texas, most law don't care
I last got a ticket in 1973 on a 68 bsa441 Victor. And i ride a LOT. But i have always been really cautious, stay within a reasonable distance of the speed limit and don't stunt. Everywhere i have lived has been a "no helmet"state so no problem there. But! If you are within 5-10mph of the speed limit, wear a helmet and aren't being a jerk on the bike. Ie: just being a part of traffic, you are covered with what i call a "SEP" field. (Some body else's problem) of course i also don't ride a bike that looks like a Superbike that escaped from a road race somewhere. General rule, if you cut your mufflers off and put "go faster stripes" on something.. police notice. Too. Not just the cute honeys on street corners. After all that's what you want, right? Attention? Don't complain if it isn't the kind you want.
3 years road riding here on 4 different bikes. About 50k miles in total. So far as I can tell the cops basically ignore Baggers, classic cruisers and ADV bikes entirely unless they are doing something really stupid and outrageously dangerous. They don't even look at me wearing dad leathers riding my Vulcan. Similar for my "safety dad" reflective gear. It more or less makes you "invisible to cops"... they see you still but you don't trigger their "douche-o-meter" so they ignore you. Sport bikes give them the "ick" though... straight up... and the more "sport bike guy" you look, the more it seems you trigger their "douche-o-meter". A hot bike with a loud exhaust and wearing a track suit and race boots, etc. will get their hackles up. Same with squid stuff like shorts and flip flops or your girl friend on the back with no gear. Their hackles go up immediately when they see bare girlie legs on your sport bike because now you are making bad decisions for 2 people not just 1. Bottom line... the stealthier you look and act and the stealthier your bike looks and sounds... the more hooligan stuff you can get away with. Choose when to hooligan wisely friends! Ride safe!
in our country you're required to wear a helmet but any helmet would do as long as it's not a full on bike helmet. I you're by yourself you can do away with a nutshell type helmet. but if you have a pillion rider you are required to wear a half face helmet while your pillion rider is required to wear at least a nutshell. Most traffic enforcers don't really care. you can just put a carboard box on your head and they will probably ignore you unless you do something dumb.

naked bikes are just dumb. pay more to go slow
It may not be your particular thing, but they exist and sell super well, so obviously there is a market for them 😂
@@ChadrikThunderCaulk mt09 is slower than a 636 lol

I was asked by an officer once and I told him my Ace Pro was effectively mostly a dash cam fill-in and he actually agreed with the usage.
thats nothing more than legalized highway robbery
That is the dumbest crock of 💩 I’ve ever heard.
@@NendoCrescendobro is tryna ride in north korea😂
Super thanks for the heads up on this. Had no idea. Thanks man.
always happy when my sv650 gets a lil shout out
absolute champion of a bike!
Still ride my sv 650 every day. Its seen better days but still gets me to work on time :) love my sv
I have had two. Great bikes.
Haven't been able to ticket me since
So you are the, do you know why I pulled you over? Cause I let you, guy.
"Squids are gonna squid" - no truer words
Hence: Squid!
In minnesota A lane splitting law has just been passed, to make it legal in MN, which is pretty awesome.
They eventually set up so NO triple digit speeds would display.
I had one pull over for soeeding. I was on a dorky KLR 650 going to a rally. Got a verbal warning. Being older, on a dorky bike helped, IMO.
I love your content dude, keep it up.
I lane split past a Houston PD officer and got a talking to. He was cool about it but I wouldn’t say TX cops are never going to bust you.
Agreed be safe, remember speed doesn't kill, it's those dam sudden stops , be safe
Once: 75 in a 45 w/o an endorsement. Speeding ticket and rode away. He was a pretty nice cop.
Yams is hilarious. This felt like a comedy special
Master of discretion right here✋✋✋
I appreciate the Hawk GT at 09:50.
And thanks for the common sense info.
Got pulled over many years ago doing 115 in a 35 learned how to control myself now
The land of freedom my ass
Try China or North Korea then see what happens when you steal a poster.
You can buy a Hayabusa at 18 and ride wherever you please. Can't do that anywhere else
I had a 1980 Suzuki with an on and off switch for the headlight. I was riding with the light off and got pulled over in Washington State.
That Honda interceptor 500 is sweet
I ride my dirtbike on roads here cuz im not old enought to have a road bike, i get hot in my gear but i always wear a helmet, knee and elbow pads, bike shoes and of course a helmet, doesnt matter how hot it is.
6:15 Boi NEEDS a new back tire
New Jersey did away with inspections I don’t lane split it’s a little harder with a cruiser with batwing fairings and crash bars
In South India Especially on "Kerala" , we get tickets for using helmet mounts or action cameras mounting on helmets on most circumstances..
Anything and everything about a motorcycle can get you pulled over in NJ!
Car? Yep, a few times down through the years, couple of tickets.
Motorcycle? Never, not even a scare.

In Britain most criminal motorcycling is now thieves on small scooters, so if you want to be left alone you're better riding a big bike especially ones with luggage boxes as they usually shout experienced legit rider
Last time the police pulled me out was because they have never seen a BMW R18.
I'm waiting to get pulled over. Pennsylvania with a tucked plate on my MT-09. Although it is bent vertical and has a light.
Videos like this make me think that motorcyclists are horribly discriminated against in the US. The rules and things that can get you in trouble seem crazy! I've been driving / riding for 20 years in the UK and have literally never been pulled over or had any police interactions... Is it really that bad there?
In traffic cases the Police don't need to prove anything so they can and do cite anyone that pisses them off.
I have been riding since 1990 here in the US and have never been pulled over. Been riding a 1000sx for the past three years.
@@Lemmon714_ I think all of the police interaction videos have just given me a negative impression...
6:17 does anyone know what kind of bike this is?
It's a Derude Sandstorm
I'm from Macedonia and lane splitting here is not legal as it falls under reckless driving ( up to 2000 euro fine ) :D
Content continuing to be excellent, though if i were to offer critism I miss the intro, especially with newer riders being the audience.
Ride safe!
Florida legal to do 85mph on I95 but illegal to sit at a stoplight without eye wear.
I need the story of why that jeep has a bush in it's tire.. at 8:59.
in our country you're required to wear a helmet but any helmet would do as long as it's not a full on bike helmet.
Remember everyone,by riding a bike, were doing everyone else a favor. 😂
The good ole days, when helmets were optional in my state.
Got pulled over after months of my small town cops not saying anything for glasses didn’t enforce helmet law for permit just wanted glasses
Lane split right past a code in SC. Just a warning.
Clicked away as soon as asked to join
I'm from Macedonia and lane filtering is not allowed, but i don't think anyone got fined for it.
Cheers.
I got a speeding ticket on my r6 for like 15 over a few years ago but that's it for 15 years of riding.
In my country I can just speeding since police here usually ride 150cc motorcycle or Honda Civic
What those gonna to do to a sportbike? 😂
Honda civics are no joke
Yeah in some states in the US they just shoot you if you run.
Remember that the lawyer who was pushing to repeal helmet laws died in a crash where a helmet may have saved him.
im on a grom, and even i accidentally speed sometimes
