Have you ever tried the furminator? I’ve been looking at it, but some say it actually cuts the hair? So might not be the best tool? How often does a Samoyed deshed? Should you brush and deshed so often? Thanks in advance!
Sammies shed everyday. They go through coat blows, where it’s more shedding than normal, twice a year. DO NOT use a Furminator. They are absolute garbage and will destroy a Sam’s coat. It breaks their fur, splitting it, giving it split ends, breaking it in half. If it’s a very cheap product, made extremely cheaply. It will remove any life from your Sam’s coat, destroying it, making it look unhealthy, no shine, because the fur has been broken.
You should use multiple brushes of various sizes. I really like Chris Christensen tools because they have rounded tips and are so gentle, yet super effective on your dog’s coat. They were designed for show dogs. I would get their rake, Oval 35mm, their Big K, their Big G and the 505 Buttercomb. Use them in the order they’re listed. Widest spacing, down to most narrow. Use Chris Christensen’s Ice on Ice spray during the brushing, to help melt mats and provide a conditioned surface for grooming. You should never brush a Sammy without it, because their fur could easily break. I have all the products linked in the video’s description. Another good product I would recommend and I’ve used on Yeti, but I don’t have linked, is Greyhound Combs has some rakes. My personal fave is the rake with smaller and longer tines. It’s like a comb, but on a rake handle, which makes it easier for me to handle. I like using that rake as one of the first steps in Yeti’s grooming. It works really well in deshedding and will easily cut through mats, with the aid of Christ Christensen’s Ice on Ice grooming spray.
I have had 3 Samoyeds in my life so far all boys Snowball, Rebel, & Saber, best dogs ever I have severe allergies & asthma and all three of these dogs I could bury my face in with no reaction. They are the most loving dogs & so protective. I agree with you brushing them is a long process but it's worth the bond you build with your fur child. The sheet you were using was the color of our carpet for years and when any of the 3 had a bath or there coat would blow out it always looked liked in snowed in the living room, bags of fur, I wish I had saved it to donate it to have the hats, gloves, scarf's, or sweaters made. We are originally from New York and lived there and New Jersey perfect weather for Samoyeds when we moved to North Carolina our Samoyed Saber did fine here.

Yeti goes through phases like that too. Sometimes on his front legs, under his knees. Other times, could be on his snout, back legs, belly, or other areas of his body.
I am curious how to properly bath a Samoyed. Should the dog be rewarded with treats as it is rewarded for other training? I would love to watch your video with tips and tricks for bathing a Samoyed and I would also love to see how you bathe Yeti :) I had a problem with my late German Shepperd. Scooby was afraid of the shower and the only way to keep my buddy clean was to clean him gently with a sponge by pouring small doses of warm water and a little bit of dog shampoo.
I actually don’t bathe him. My bathroom doesn’t provide a proper viewpoint for the camera. My camera is expensive and I wouldn’t want to damage it with water. For bathing a Samoyed, yes, you’d want to give treats. I give Yeti treats whenever I groom him, because he’s so good. You can place some peanut butter on your bathtub, that your dog can lick. Distractions help a great deal. Sponge baths wouldn’t work on a Sammy. Their coats are much too long and thick. Their entire bodies must be wet. Keep their heads dry, until the very end. It’ll take a Sammy a full 24 hours to dry, if you don’t use a doggie blow dryer. People hair dryers won’t blow enough air and the air gets too hot. You could use a people hair dryer, on low heat, but you’ll be using it for a long time.

This grooming, actually shocked me. Yeti has gotten more comfortable being groomed, over the past few months. He’ll be 5 years old December 3. I normally groom him in our tiny bathroom. Gives me more control, less space for him to struggle. Yeti still occasionally eats his brush. What helps, is getting some peanut butter and putting it on a wall, while you brush her. Or, get a nice bone for her to only chew when she gets brushed. I would start with the peanut butter. Keep her grooming sessions short. Provide plenty of praise and treats. It takes time for a Sammy to get used to being brushed. Xena’s a good name for a strong, powerful Samoyed, Nicolle.
A few times per week. You don’t have to use all the brushes with each brushing, but at least twice weekly, use all the brushes. The other times, you can use just the slicker brush. I had let Yeti go for a week and a half to do this video.

Sammies are great dogs if you have experience with dogs. You stated you don’t have experience, so here’s a game plan. Watch all of my videos. Get good grooming brushes, highly recommend both Chris Christensen and #1 All Systems as they’re gentle and do a phenomenal job. Sammies are velociraptors between 4 months and 2 years of age, every single day, unless you understand they need a LOT of daily exercise. Having kids will help. You need to walk them distances at least 3x per day. They’re working dogs with a lot energy, that lasts throughout their entire lives. That’s why a lot of daily activity, playing with kids (they adore kids and are gentle around kids), plenty of long daily walks helps eliminate the velociraptor. Training isn’t as simple as sit, stay, come and down. The more simple the command, the more bored and least likely to listen they become. It helps to do a few games of fetch first, then involve the training through multiple methods. Keep training short. You can bring a Sam to puppy training, more so for socializing to other dogs. They’ll be super distracted by all the other dogs, won’t focus on the simple commands and you could feel frustrated. Instead, tire them out before bringing to puppy training. Lots of walks, games of fetch, hide and seek, fun things Sams like to do. Immediately afterwards, bring them to puppy training. You’ll wonder how the heck your Sam has so much energy. They were bred for that. When you listen to their breeding instincts, of being a working dog meant to pull heavy equipment through deep snow and herd reindeer, and do things to replicate that (they love herding kids and their parents) you’ll have a great dog.
@@YetisPlace Ah thanks so much for the advice. This will help me a lot. Plus our family goes outside a lot and we also go on walks, like 30-40 minutes or maybe an hour at least. Would that be enough? And yes I’ve watched some videos for the past three days and keeping notes now.
My baby boy (samoyed) unexcepectidly passed away on halloween. I have been a wreck and miss him a lot. He is a baby and should have had so much longer here. He is still with us in spirit and maybe he visited yeti. I miss him a lot and I love him. We are going to adopt his biological brother next time they have a litter around spring so we will have a piece of him physically with us again. In case you were wondering he ran out of our gate to fast for my dad to catch him. A lot of people speed down are road and someone sped didn't see him and hit him. I was not home I was at Pet Co picking up his food and shampoo and toothpaste. We rushed to the hospital but they couldn't do anything because when my dad got there he had lost his heartbeat. He passed peacefully in our neighbors arms in the back of the car. The only thing that is ok that comes out of this is they are going to finally install a speed bump near our house so the cars have to look in front of them. It could have just as easily been a kid crossing the road. Im sure Boe Boe is with us through his spirit and will come back to us hopefully through his brother.

I’m glad you’ll get his brother, from the same Mom and Dad dog. Going through the loss of a pet, is just as difficult as losing a loved one. Sammies are quick, happy, excited dogs. When Yeti was little, he could fit in-between my backyard fence boards. My first Sammy, would sometimes escape too, even while an adult. I remember how excited you were when you told me you were getting him. Arya, yes, Boe Boe lives on and is watching over you. Our hearts go to you during this difficult time.
Would you rather use a swivel head or the cc brushes. I have been grooming a samoyed for over 3 years he is my bosses so I cannot brush in between . Just saw your other video with cc brush
Much prefer the CC brushes. At the time of this video, I didn’t own a CC. I now have a bunch of them. You saw my pics of them on Facebook. CC products are far superior to any other tool I’ve used in the past. They’re extremely durable, they smooth through a Sammie’s coat like butter. The other cheap brushes that I’ve had, scratch the dog’s skin, hurting them. Cheap brushes cannot get through their hair without breaking the hair strands. I’ve been grooming Sams and American Eskimos since I was a teenager. Not professionally, just as an owner. As an owner, we normally groom them everyday, or at least every other day (except recently for me, due to a spinal injury). I struggled with cheap brushes. Their fur/hair never looked smooth, shiny and stunning while using them. The dogs would get scratched, shy away from being groomed. That was because of the rough tips. All CC brushes have rounded tips, with curves in the right areas. The bases are flexible, cushioned rubber. The long, tined bristle brushes, that look like human hair brushes, are able to stand up to the thickness and length of a Sammy coat unlike any other. I use them as a first step. I finish my grooming using the CC Big G slicker brush. Yeti’s coat is so soft, smooth, looking like he was airbrushed, with a brilliant shine. Yeti hasn’t been bathed in years by me. His coat is stunning. The CC helped me groom Yeti so well, coming off my spinal injury.
Other equally good brands that many Sammy owners like, are Greyhound combs and Ashley Craig brushes/combs. Both of those brands and CC, are grooming tools of choice by professional breeders. They like using them to prep their dogs for show.
Xiomaa doesn´t get brushed that often... I don´t get the time. She is such a free spirit and not at all girly and the savage look suits her. She can get filthy and muddy on her morning run and by the afternoon it is all gone..... all over my floor. She began blowing her coat just over a month ago and there were clumps of fleece all over the house. It is more or less done now thankfully.

I use a small amount of people hair condition, that’s white in color. I put 1/8 human hair conditioner in a spray bottle, the rest filled with water. Then I shake to mix.
It looks rough on camera, but it isn’t rough in real life. The camera exaggerates it. Since this video, I’ve found grooming tools that work much better, go through his fur like butter. They’re Chris Christensen tools and #1 All Systems. They’re found in my description below the video. They work like a dream, much better than what I had been using.
Oh, no problem. I wanted to show different products for grooming. I sell the products, which are linked in the video description. Providing options for grooming, depending on what works well. New Sammy owners can be overwhelmed by grooming, so my breakdown helps.
I just got a Samoyed pup! I started grooming only a little a day for her to get use to the brush. However she never sits still because the brush’s top is wood. So she tends to get distracted and try to bite the comb. How do I get her to sit still and stop biting the comb?
I also have so many toys and a bone for her but she always gets so BOREDD of them. Especially during her teething times rn she chooses furniture and my family to bite aggressively on instead. How do I make her stop biting us and to bite the bone/toys instead? (I’ve tried putting the lemon from ur other vid on the furniture but for some reason she LICKS IT and continues)
She isn’t getting enough exercise. Walk and play with her more. Brush in a smaller location, like a bathroom, or on a grooming table. It takes Sammies awhile to get used to being brushed. Distract with peanut butter placed on a wall. Give treats.
My first Sammy, got used to and enjoyed lemon. I changed it up to a few different types of no chew sprays. Samoyeds need to involve you when they play with a toy. Throw a ball, hold a toy, play tug, make them chase a toy, while you’re dragging it. Bring them on a few daily, long walks. Tire her out. When they’re tired, work on training.
Never ever trim a Sam. They’re bred to work in the north of Siberia and Antarctica. Their coats are thick for that reason. A Husky’s fur, is just as thick and double coated like a Sam’s, for those same reasons. If you want a dog with a thin coat, don’t get a Sam. You cannot change nor alter genetics.
Never ever trim a Sam, because their skin isn’t meant to endure the hot sun. They get serious sunburns and the heat of the sun, can cause heat stroke if they’re shaved.
Are samoyeds good with cats and small dogs/animals? I've heard that they're really gentle and sweet but I've always heard they have a strong prey drive
Both are completely true. Supervise your Samoyed when you introduce to your cats and small dogs/animas. Cuddle with those other pets in front of your Sammy. Tell them they’re friends. Encourage friendly behavior, with treats and praise. Always supervise during the first few months. They’ll eventually understand these animals are their buddies.

Yeti always enjoys chasing after and hunting bunnies. Bunnies are like squirrels to Sammies. I would always be with your Sam when they’re around your pet bunny. Birds can fly away, so they would be ok.
I read that you can't use a slicker in Samoyed. is it true?they say that the slicker takes off the undercoat that protects their skin now I don’t know what it can or cannot do.
I use slickers all the time on all Sammies I’ve owned and been around. The more expensive slickers, like Chris Christensen brushes (you can find them linked in the description), are really good and work very effectively. Even if a Sammy is shedding massively, there’s no way they’d be without their undercoat. The brush you’d never want to use, is the Furminator. That brush is terrible and will ruin a Sam’s coat.
In the video’s description, I have a list of grooming tools. When you click it, it brings up all the tools I use and love. I highly recommend Chris Christensen brand brushes and #1 All Systems. They have rounded tips so they won’t hurt your Sam. They also do most of the work for you. You simply need to guide the brush.
At least hour per grooming session. I normally spend an hour and a half to 2 hours grooming Yeti each time he gets groomed. So weekly, it would be around 6-9 hours spent grooming.

NO! Never ever a shave a Samoyed, because their body temperature will not properly regulate and they could suffer heat strokes as a result. The only thing that can help an Arctic dog in very hot India, is if you have central air conditioning. If you don’t a Samoyed would not do well in hot India. You need air conditioning for them to survive.
I’m sorry if I came off as harsh. I didn’t intend on being that way. Sammies are beautiful dogs, who need a lot of exercise and plenty of playtime. If you have air conditioning, they will be most comfortable sitting right in front of the vent. Please don’t shave a Samoyed. Due to their thick, double coat, their skin is very pink, burns easily and doesn’t allow them to cool properly. They need their full coat.

TikTok has been having problems in the US over the past few months. They could be taken down, due to political pressure. That’s why UA-cam now has Shorts. They’re quick, vertically filmed videos, that are 15-60 seconds. I did a few Shorts when they first came out. Trouble with Shorts, is they can hurt an established channel, because of the shorter average view duration. Yeti and I have Instagram, Facebook and now a website. That’s a lot while working full time. The content that does well, is Samoyed educational videos. Viewers normally expect the same type of content from platform to platform. With only around 20 - 60 seconds to work with, it’s a bit tricky to get our content into TikTok. We did a few UA-cam Shorts, that did well and gained a few subscribers. It just isn’t the content my audience prefers. Great question though Hobs.
You could probably do Shorts on UA-cam for your channel. Shot vertically, like TikTok. Quick, 15 - 60 seconds videos. TikTok has had some hacking in the recent past and has had other issues, including political push back. I don’t have a TikTok account and won’t get one. UA-cam is the world’s second platform, being its parent, Google. UA-cam will be around for awhile.

Hey Ma'am. Please read and reply😭😭😭. I want to get a Samoyed puppy. I have done lots and lots of research and got to know that Samoyed best fits our needs. But I am really really so scared of being cheated by the seller. What if he gives me a spitz instead of a Samoyed??? They look exactly the same when they are puppies. Spitz are the cheapest breed available at my place and I don't want to give away money for a spitz thinking it is samoyed. I am gonna travel 500 kilometres for the puppy and if I get cheated, I will literally die. Please help me how to check if the puppy is a samoyed. (Btw I am talking about Samoyed and Indian spitz) please help
Samoyeds are larger as puppies and adults, than spitz dogs. Sammies have almond shaped eyes, not round. If you’re paying for a Sammy, you want to be sure it’s the breed you’ve been promised. Personally, I wouldn’t buy a puppy, unless I saw the parents, met the breeder face to face and agreed upon the puppy I would receive, with a downpayment.
I don’t have a grooming table large enough to properly fit him. Grooming tables of the correct size, would give me access to his butt. Since he lays down, it’s a difficult area to clean. Therefore, Yeti has dried poopy butt. I’ve tried brushing the area, but he moves away. If their poop is solid, it shouldn’t get everywhere as easily. Normally, brushing of their butt, would remove it.
Yeti and my first Sammy, didn’t like it much when I started. Now Yeti doesn’t mind. It helps if you get brushes and combs that feel good on their skin. I personally use Chris Christensen brushes. They don’t pull their hair, have rounded pins and feel really nice. Their combs and brushes, should feel really nice on your head of hair too. If they don’t, you need to invest some money into comfortable ones. I know Chris Christensen, Greyhound are expensive. But, when you consider the amount of time and years you’ll spend using them, they’re worth it. Before grooming, bring them on a longer walk, play a bunch, wear off some of their excess energy first. That’ll help bunches. Start grooming them in a small area, Jennifer. I groomed both of my dogs in the bathroom, which is a tiny, little space. Involve treats and groom for only a few minutes at a time. Use encouraging words, a gentle tone of voice, give lots of praise. Eventually they’ll feel more comfortable with it. Grooming tables also make the job easier. They’ll be more likely to stay put.
I'm not a fan of the shedding blade, I don't think it's good for their coats ... If you want to get all the lose hair out of them, esp when they shed ... use a dog waterblower (outside) and you'll just use air to blow it all out instead. When they have mats use coconut oil and work it into the mat, then brush it out ...
Coconut oil is a good idea. Most of the time, I don’t use the shedding blade. I’m unable to use a blower outside, because it’s cold where I live and gets dark by 4pm now. We have snow on the ground for about 6 months and it’s too chilly to use a blower outside on him. He blows his coat, in January, when it’s way below zero Fahrenheit.
Exactly! Perfect climate for Yeti. He gets really warm while on a walk when it’s comfortable outside in jeans and sweatshirt. He’ll whimper on the way home, because he’s too warm. I filmed an episode in February, when it was -25 Fahrenheit. I had him outside and he was loving the cold. Me....not so much, but I enjoyed filming him.
I thought he would’ve wandered away or played keep away. But, he knows when there are lights and the camera, it’s time to film. He’ll have one on one Mom/Yeti time and he’ll get a lot of treats. He was surprisingly very cooperative.

It’ll take a Sammy a full 24 hours to dry, if you don’t use a doggie blow dryer. People hair dryers won’t blow enough air and the air gets too hot. You could use a people hair dryer, on low heat, but you’ll be using it for a long time.

This grooming, actually shocked me. Yeti has gotten more comfortable being groomed, over the past few months. He’ll be 5 years old December 3. I normally groom him in our tiny bathroom. Gives me more control, less space for him to struggle. Yeti still occasionally eats his brush. What helps, is getting some peanut butter and putting it on a wall, while you brush her. Or, get a nice bone for her to only chew when she gets brushed. I would start with the peanut butter. Keep her grooming sessions short. Provide plenty of praise and treats. It takes time for a Sammy to get used to being brushed.

you probably said it somewhere and i didnt hear it, but how often should you brush a sammie?
A few times per week. You don’t have to use all the brushes with each brushing, but at least twice weekly, use all the brushes. The other times, you can use just the slicker brush. I had let Yeti go for a week and a half to do this video.

Sammies are great dogs if you have experience with dogs. You stated you don’t have experience, so here’s a game plan. Watch all of my videos. Get good grooming brushes, highly recommend both Chris Christensen and #1 All Systems as they’re gentle and do a phenomenal job.
Sammies are velociraptors between 4 months and 2 years of age, every single day, unless you understand they need a LOT of daily exercise. Having kids will help. You need to walk them distances at least 3x per day.
They’re working dogs with a lot energy, that lasts throughout their entire lives. That’s why a lot of daily activity, playing with kids (they adore kids and are gentle around kids), plenty of long daily walks helps eliminate the velociraptor.
Training isn’t as simple as sit, stay, come and down. The more simple the command, the more bored and least likely to listen they become. It helps to do a few games of fetch first, then involve the training through multiple methods. Keep training short.
You can bring a Sam to puppy training, more so for socializing to other dogs. They’ll be super distracted by all the other dogs, won’t focus on the simple commands and you could feel frustrated. Instead, tire them out before bringing to puppy training. Lots of walks, games of fetch, hide and seek, fun things Sams like to do. Immediately afterwards, bring them to puppy training.
You’ll wonder how the heck your Sam has so much energy. They were bred for that. When you listen to their breeding instincts, of being a working dog meant to pull heavy equipment through deep snow and herd reindeer, and do things to replicate that (they love herding kids and their parents) you’ll have a great dog.
@@YetisPlace Ah thanks so much for the advice. This will help me a lot. Plus our family goes outside a lot and we also go on walks, like 30-40 minutes or maybe an hour at least. Would that be enough? And yes I’ve watched some videos for the past three days and keeping notes now.

My baby boy (samoyed) unexcepectidly passed away on halloween. I have been a wreck and miss him a lot. He is a baby and should have had so much longer here. He is still with us in spirit and maybe he visited yeti. I miss him a lot and I love him. We are going to adopt his biological brother next time they have a litter around spring so we will have a piece of him physically with us again. In case you were wondering he ran out of our gate to fast for my dad to catch him. A lot of people speed down are road and someone sped didn't see him and hit him. I was not home I was at Pet Co picking up his food and shampoo and toothpaste. We rushed to the hospital but they couldn't do anything because when my dad got there he had lost his heartbeat. He passed peacefully in our neighbors arms in the back of the car. The only thing that is ok that comes out of this is they are going to finally install a speed bump near our house so the cars have to look in front of them. It could have just as easily been a kid crossing the road. Im sure Boe Boe is with us through his spirit and will come back to us hopefully through his brother.

I’m glad you’ll get his brother, from the same Mom and Dad dog. Going through the loss of a pet, is just as difficult as losing a loved one. Sammies are quick, happy, excited dogs. When Yeti was little, he could fit in-between my backyard fence boards. My first Sammy, would sometimes escape too, even while an adult.
I remember how excited you were when you told me you were getting him. Arya, yes, Boe Boe lives on and is watching over you. Our hearts go to you during this difficult time.

Would you rather use a swivel head or the cc brushes. I have been grooming a samoyed for over 3 years he is my bosses so I cannot brush in between . Just saw your other video with cc brush
Much prefer the CC brushes. At the time of this video, I didn’t own a CC. I now have a bunch of them. You saw my pics of them on Facebook. CC products are far superior to any other tool I’ve used in the past. They’re extremely durable, they smooth through a Sammie’s coat like butter. The other cheap brushes that I’ve had, scratch the dog’s skin, hurting them. Cheap brushes cannot get through their hair without breaking the hair strands.
I’ve been grooming Sams and American Eskimos since I was a teenager. Not professionally, just as an owner. As an owner, we normally groom them everyday, or at least every other day (except recently for me, due to a spinal injury). I struggled with cheap brushes. Their fur/hair never looked smooth, shiny and stunning while using them. The dogs would get scratched, shy away from being groomed. That was because of the rough tips.
All CC brushes have rounded tips, with curves in the right areas. The bases are flexible, cushioned rubber. The long, tined bristle brushes, that look like human hair brushes, are able to stand up to the thickness and length of a Sammy coat unlike any other. I use them as a first step.
I finish my grooming using the CC Big G slicker brush. Yeti’s coat is so soft, smooth, looking like he was airbrushed, with a brilliant shine. Yeti hasn’t been bathed in years by me. His coat is stunning.
The CC helped me groom Yeti so well, coming off my spinal injury.
Other equally good brands that many Sammy owners like, are Greyhound combs and Ashley Craig brushes/combs. Both of those brands and CC, are grooming tools of choice by professional breeders. They like using them to prep their dogs for show.
Xiomaa doesn´t get brushed that often... I don´t get the time. She is such a free spirit and not at all girly and the savage look suits her. She can get filthy and muddy on her morning run and by the afternoon it is all gone..... all over my floor. She began blowing her coat just over a month ago and there were clumps of fleece all over the house. It is more or less done now thankfully.

Samoyeds should never be shaved, nor trimmed, except for medical procedures.

I use a small amount of people hair condition, that’s white in color. I put 1/8 human hair conditioner in a spray bottle, the rest filled with water. Then I shake to mix.

It looks rough on camera, but it isn’t rough in real life. The camera exaggerates it. Since this video, I’ve found grooming tools that work much better, go through his fur like butter. They’re Chris Christensen tools and #1 All Systems. They’re found in my description below the video. They work like a dream, much better than what I had been using.
Quick question on why you use two slicker brushes.
I would only use one. The sound of new brush, that sounded like walking in flip flop shoes, didn’t work for filming, that’s why I changed brushes.

I just got a Samoyed pup! I started grooming only a little a day for her to get use to the brush. However she never sits still because the brush’s top is wood. So she tends to get distracted and try to bite the comb. How do I get her to sit still and stop biting the comb?
I also have so many toys and a bone for her but she always gets so BOREDD of them. Especially during her teething times rn she chooses furniture and my family to bite aggressively on instead. How do I make her stop biting us and to bite the bone/toys instead? (I’ve tried putting the lemon from ur other vid on the furniture but for some reason she LICKS IT and continues)
She isn’t getting enough exercise. Walk and play with her more.
Brush in a smaller location, like a bathroom, or on a grooming table. It takes Sammies awhile to get used to being brushed. Distract with peanut butter placed on a wall. Give treats.
My first Sammy, got used to and enjoyed lemon. I changed it up to a few different types of no chew sprays. Samoyeds need to involve you when they play with a toy. Throw a ball, hold a toy, play tug, make them chase a toy, while you’re dragging it. Bring them on a few daily, long walks. Tire her out. When they’re tired, work on training.

Can we make a samoyed have VERRY VERRY thin fur like huskys or is it bad for them? Or at specific times can we trim them?
Never ever trim a Sam. They’re bred to work in the north of Siberia and Antarctica. Their coats are thick for that reason. A Husky’s fur, is just as thick and double coated like a Sam’s, for those same reasons.
If you want a dog with a thin coat, don’t get a Sam. You cannot change nor alter genetics.
Never ever trim a Sam, because their skin isn’t meant to endure the hot sun. They get serious sunburns and the heat of the sun, can cause heat stroke if they’re shaved.

Are samoyeds good with cats and small dogs/animals? I've heard that they're really gentle and sweet but I've always heard they have a strong prey drive
Both are completely true. Supervise your Samoyed when you introduce to your cats and small dogs/animas. Cuddle with those other pets in front of your Sammy. Tell them they’re friends. Encourage friendly behavior, with treats and praise. Always supervise during the first few months. They’ll eventually understand these animals are their buddies.
Mine was best buds with a cat, and a toy poodle for 15 years.

Yeti always enjoys chasing after and hunting bunnies. Bunnies are like squirrels to Sammies. I would always be with your Sam when they’re around your pet bunny. Birds can fly away, so they would be ok.
I read that you can't use a slicker in Samoyed. is it true?they say that the slicker takes off the undercoat that protects their skin now I don’t know what it can or cannot do.
I use slickers all the time on all Sammies I’ve owned and been around. The more expensive slickers, like Chris Christensen brushes (you can find them linked in the description), are really good and work very effectively. Even if a Sammy is shedding massively, there’s no way they’d be without their undercoat.
The brush you’d never want to use, is the Furminator. That brush is terrible and will ruin a Sam’s coat.

In the video’s description, I have a list of grooming tools. When you click it, it brings up all the tools I use and love. I highly recommend Chris Christensen brand brushes and #1 All Systems. They have rounded tips so they won’t hurt your Sam. They also do most of the work for you. You simply need to guide the brush.

At least hour per grooming session. I normally spend an hour and a half to 2 hours grooming Yeti each time he gets groomed. So weekly, it would be around 6-9 hours spent grooming.

NO! Never ever a shave a Samoyed, because their body temperature will not properly regulate and they could suffer heat strokes as a result. The only thing that can help an Arctic dog in very hot India, is if you have central air conditioning. If you don’t a Samoyed would not do well in hot India. You need air conditioning for them to survive.

I’m sorry if I came off as harsh. I didn’t intend on being that way. Sammies are beautiful dogs, who need a lot of exercise and plenty of playtime. If you have air conditioning, they will be most comfortable sitting right in front of the vent.
Please don’t shave a Samoyed. Due to their thick, double coat, their skin is very pink, burns easily and doesn’t allow them to cool properly. They need their full coat.

Ever thought about doing a Yeti’s Place Tik Tok?
TikTok has been having problems in the US over the past few months. They could be taken down, due to political pressure. That’s why UA-cam now has Shorts. They’re quick, vertically filmed videos, that are 15-60 seconds. I did a few Shorts when they first came out. Trouble with Shorts, is they can hurt an established channel, because of the shorter average view duration.
Yeti and I have Instagram, Facebook and now a website. That’s a lot while working full time. The content that does well, is Samoyed educational videos. Viewers normally expect the same type of content from platform to platform. With only around 20 - 60 seconds to work with, it’s a bit tricky to get our content into TikTok. We did a few UA-cam Shorts, that did well and gained a few subscribers. It just isn’t the content my audience prefers. Great question though Hobs.
You could probably do Shorts on UA-cam for your channel. Shot vertically, like TikTok. Quick, 15 - 60 seconds videos. TikTok has had some hacking in the recent past and has had other issues, including political push back.
I don’t have a TikTok account and won’t get one. UA-cam is the world’s second platform, being its parent, Google. UA-cam will be around for awhile.

Hey Ma'am. Please read and reply😭😭😭. I want to get a Samoyed puppy. I have done lots and lots of research and got to know that Samoyed best fits our needs. But I am really really so scared of being cheated by the seller. What if he gives me a spitz instead of a Samoyed??? They look exactly the same when they are puppies. Spitz are the cheapest breed available at my place and I don't want to give away money for a spitz thinking it is samoyed. I am gonna travel 500 kilometres for the puppy and if I get cheated, I will literally die. Please help me how to check if the puppy is a samoyed. (Btw I am talking about Samoyed and Indian spitz) please help
It’s really important that you visit and get to know a breeder prior to paying for a puppy. If you have doubts, don’t go to that breeder.
Samoyeds are larger as puppies and adults, than spitz dogs. Sammies have almond shaped eyes, not round. If you’re paying for a Sammy, you want to be sure it’s the breed you’ve been promised. Personally, I wouldn’t buy a puppy, unless I saw the parents, met the breeder face to face and agreed upon the puppy I would receive, with a downpayment.

Do you clean the butt area after yeti poops? If yes how?
I don’t have a grooming table large enough to properly fit him. Grooming tables of the correct size, would give me access to his butt. Since he lays down, it’s a difficult area to clean. Therefore, Yeti has dried poopy butt. I’ve tried brushing the area, but he moves away.
If their poop is solid, it shouldn’t get everywhere as easily. Normally, brushing of their butt, would remove it.

Yeti and my first Sammy, didn’t like it much when I started. Now Yeti doesn’t mind. It helps if you get brushes and combs that feel good on their skin. I personally use Chris Christensen brushes. They don’t pull their hair, have rounded pins and feel really nice. Their combs and brushes, should feel really nice on your head of hair too. If they don’t, you need to invest some money into comfortable ones. I know Chris Christensen, Greyhound are expensive. But, when you consider the amount of time and years you’ll spend using them, they’re worth it.
Before grooming, bring them on a longer walk, play a bunch, wear off some of their excess energy first. That’ll help bunches.
Start grooming them in a small area, Jennifer. I groomed both of my dogs in the bathroom, which is a tiny, little space. Involve treats and groom for only a few minutes at a time. Use encouraging words, a gentle tone of voice, give lots of praise. Eventually they’ll feel more comfortable with it.
Grooming tables also make the job easier. They’ll be more likely to stay put.
I'm not a fan of the shedding blade, I don't think it's good for their coats ...
If you want to get all the lose hair out of them, esp when they shed ... use a dog waterblower (outside) and you'll just use air to blow it all out instead.
When they have mats use coconut oil and work it into the mat, then brush it out ...
Coconut oil is a good idea. Most of the time, I don’t use the shedding blade. I’m unable to use a blower outside, because it’s cold where I live and gets dark by 4pm now. We have snow on the ground for about 6 months and it’s too chilly to use a blower outside on him. He blows his coat, in January, when it’s way below zero Fahrenheit.
Would love to use a blower, but I let professional groomers use that on him.

Exactly! Perfect climate for Yeti. He gets really warm while on a walk when it’s comfortable outside in jeans and sweatshirt. He’ll whimper on the way home, because he’s too warm. I filmed an episode in February, when it was -25 Fahrenheit. I had him outside and he was loving the cold. Me....not so much, but I enjoyed filming him.
Your not done but he is lol.
I thought he would’ve wandered away or played keep away. But, he knows when there are lights and the camera, it’s time to film. He’ll have one on one Mom/Yeti time and he’ll get a lot of treats. He was surprisingly very cooperative.
