Samoyeds as a breed are talkative, loving, attached, calm, and gentle pack animals. Here are some of our favorite highlights about samoyeds. When picking the right breed for you, it's also really important to consider both pros and cons of a breed and your life style!

Our Sammy does everything the same as yours, except he doesn’t like mud or water. 13 years of fun with him so far and still looks 2 years old. Thanks for sharing your lovely dog with us.

Ours is pretty much the same, except he doesn't like to go back inside too often. He's only 6 months old right now so subject to change

You have caught them brilliantly. Wish more people understood the breed. I’m constantly getting told what my dog should be like, and I say she’s a Samoyed and behaves just like she should, plus she’s the friendliest dog I have ever known! I love her to pieces. ❤️
My first Samoyed, Chewy, used to carry a toy whenever he went outside.
They are so affectionate as well as very gentle with kids. And they always smell clean!!!!
Wow, I remember when I met "Balto", a funny and very energetic Samoyed that a neighbor gave my grandmother because he had so many ticks. My cousins made him bite, run all over the house and dig in the plants, anyway I had a great time with him. Weeks later, Balto's owner came to the house and had to take Balty (as I like to call him), I had been a little sad that he had to leave. Putting that aside, it was fun while it lasted
And... I translated "balty" on Hindi and it means "Bucket"
Edit: I live in mexico and it's so rare to find Samoyeds

Yours loves baths! Good god you hit the lottery jackpot! One of my samoyeds literally hides from me in my wife's walk in closet, and the other sulks for the entire day after.

Mine absolutely adores being groomed in any way shape or form. Brushes, pets, blow dry, bath, anything.

our sammy has a stuffed emotional support fish instead of a ball lol she literally cuddles it on the couch and carries it with her when she walks around the house. all day all be cleaning listening to the squeaker in that thing lol

And they are definitely the most stubborn and hard headed dogs I have ever met. If you want a puppy or expect your dog to do what you want, that breed is 100% the wrong dog for you! They are beautifull and like their people, but if they dont like sth there is little you can do to convince them. And they want to be involved in almost everything you do, they really need to work. I had my Niki for 17 years and she was the boss for sure. Never calmed down after 4 years we were like what is this she is still a puppy. BTW totally failed obedience training. She was so awesome when she had to go I turned into a cat person. She was not replaceable..

I’ve got a Samoyed who’s turning to 6 this year, she is super energetic and strong.. she pulls leashes real hard and it’s not possible to train or control😞

Yh don't try the prong collar. Tiring her out first then practise leash walking as once a dog is mentally and physically exercised they are more likely to listen.
Once you've tired her out, ask for a sit or lie down then hold a treat to her nose then lure her into standing next to you. Also if she pulls then make sure to guide her towards the opposite direction as to say"if you pull ur not going anywhere". I hope this helps!
Orlena Chan prongs arent cruel, but i do think you should try a slip lead or a martingale before. martingales tighten when they pull, so pulling is uncomfortable for them and so in order to relieve the discomfort, they’ll walk back to you and naturally heel.
omg Momo is so cute! I really want to get a samoyed soon! Can I ask a few questions: Do samoyed bark a lot? I've read a few things and watched videos saying that they do, but can you train them not to bark? Also, besides during shedding season, how much do samoyed shed?
A.A.O you can definitely train them to not bark but it takes a LOOOONG time and it takes a LOT of work. Definitely will take MONTHS. Momo is a good boy and doesn’t bark a lot but he’s abnormal for sammys.
He sheds all the time lol I can’t wear black and I sweep the floor everyday regardless of shedding season or not

For your second question they shed a LOT and it's normal for them to have a lot of fur because since they come from Siberia i think, they needed a lot of fur in order to stay warm. Also in the summer/spring they have they're own built in AC!

My parents got a Samoyed in 1962 at a pet store in Coney Island. I was 13 at the time and was so excited. The males were $50 and the females $45. We got a male and my mother named him Frosty. At that time no one had this breed or if they did we never saw another. A week after we got him he became deathly ill and the vet didn't think he was going to live but after a month and lots of TLC by everyone in the family he was great. This is really a wonderful breed. Sweet and very intelligent. We had him quite a few years

I had a samoyed named silver she was light tan with silver on her eartips. She passed away in 92. She wasn't i miss her

What’s it like to take your very first Samoyed puppy home? Like for example are they scared, shy, or happy and curious?
I love Sammies - I've had 4 of which I currently have 2. I agree with everything except "loves baths." Mine hate baths, but love being toweled off. When they come in from the rain, they love being rubbed all over with a big towel.

I’ve just got Samoyed yesterday. He’s only 2month and half but he literally funny and play a lot. So may I know what kind of foods that he likes and what kind of foods or drink to avoid? One more thing is how many time do we have to shower him?

I like fluffy dogs, one day I would like a Samoyed, but it is harder to keep larger dogs happy in an apartment with no yard, so just a pomeranian for now. They are like mini samoyeds, with a napoleon complex. I love her stinky noisy face.

One should also know that Samoyeds have very long fur. Sometimes their poops get stuck in it, and you may have to assist in getting it out 🤢. Also, in the summer time they need to be trimmed unless you plan on keeping them in doors 24/7. They seem pretty miserable in the heat.

Voguedoll X they’re super affectionate, loving dogs. Not a single mean bone. They go wherever you go and cannot be left by themselves.
Agreed! They follow you everywhere but this can lead to (sometimes severe) seperation anxiety. They are HUGE pack animals. Momo does not necessarily like to sit with my on the couch or on my bed, but he doesn’t mind if I go to him to cuddle. He will not come to me to cuddle though

Brittany Chan, Yeti also doesn’t come up for a cuddle, unless I go to him. Although, he does come up to tease me. Yeti walks up to me while I’m laying on the couch. He’ll put his head right in a special spot. The moment I begin rubbing his ears, he knows he has my attention. He’ll back up and away, start barking, asking for treats and playtime. Crazy dog!

We are researching this breed. Do they have to always have someone at home? How long can they be left alone? Also, is a fenced yard necessary?
Jennifer Pizzarello I don’t have a fenced in yard and he’s fine. They don’t always need someone at home but he has SEVERE seperation anxiety. They’re 100% pack animals and I have had stories of them destroying walls and doors when left alone. I usually keep momo in a crate while I’m at work, but I have him build relationships with my roommates
