2k19 & 2k20's story both have a problem with realism. Both in and out of the ring. 19's story saw someone debut and in their 1st year win most of the titles. 20's sees 2 characters who not only win most their titles early on in their career but hold them for longer than most, especially in red's case. They also shoot(?) feud with their Highschool bully and actually go to hell. At least in the previous modes, if I hold on to a title for a record amount of time, me and my character have earned it.
To be fair, the stories for the Day Of Reckoning and WrestleMania 22 games also made your character win a bunch of titles on your first year, one of the games even made a joke about it.

the main problem is that the last two "MyCareer" are just a story mode, like you said in the video, you can't evolve your Superstar like the previous WWE 2K with various personalities
Honestly whoever was in charge of that cringefest that is 2k20 My Player needs to be fired and banned from working on video games for the rest of his or her life.
So, the WWE itself, alongside 2K and Visual Concepts? 'Cause they're all responsible. The third one makes the game, the first one approves everything that goes on it and the second one oversees it and publishes it.
I'm glad I seen this because I agree because it can't be my career if I can't make choices that affect me. You did a great gm aspect for 2k22 maybe make a career one as well.
I personally prefer the way 2k19 and 20 have done it, ok the characters have designated names and personalities but it’s so much better than 18 by half way through I was desperate for it to end. All it was was run to the match making area do a promo or a match then go to the parking lot and go home and repeat it needed a story it didn’t have one. 19 and 20 have good matches interesting story and structure
Of course, my objection is that it’s not MY career. It’s theirs. It’s a Story Mode. Which people do like. I found it entertaining as well. But if they could have filled out 2K18 appropriately, made the right changes and triggered storylines, it would have been better.
VikingSizeGamer 2k18 was perfect just needed to unbug some of the quests have unique storylines that could trigger after u finish the main story and the option to go back to nxt (or even go to 205 live for cruiserweights)
this is such a fact . why the hell was red the badass and trey was the goofy punk . I’m not a fan of universe mode or showcase for that matter , so the mycareer sucking really ruined the game for me .
What I do in those situations is just remake my character and put him in universe mode. And then I just sim every match that he’s not in. Then I kind of just told play. I climb the rankings, jump people who beat me as they come down the ramp, try and form a tag team, etc. it’s not as fun as a my career mode could be, but it’s an okay substitute.
I feared for a second this was going to be a terribly pretentious video narrated by some smart-ass who can barely even construct an opinion properly across a video. Thankfully, this was direct and to the point. Perfectly straight-forward. Good job.
Good insight on this. It's so weird that you spend all this time creating a wrestler, with a character made through your own creativity, and then they decide to shove it with a nickname that doesn't match with your envisioned character. Happened for both 19 and 20, and for the latter, I felt like it was more than Red and Tre's story than whatever my character had, so it was difficult for me to invest in them. I liked the story, however. So yes, it should be called Story Mode then rather than MyCareer.
A good fix would be call it story mode, have six shorter stories like the old road to wrestlemania mode. Do 3 male caw stories & 3 female caw stories. Each story applies to 2 of the 3 create a move types (e.g. Striker & Showman get 1 story, Lucha & Technician get 1 story & powerhouse & giant get a story). Then rip up universe mode as is and have it as myplayer where you progress through with a male & female character (which can be caw or existing) and the computer books shows & GM mode where you book the shows.
I want a 2k my career where WE GET TO CHOOSE our career tbh 2k15-18s career wasn’t that bad if you think about it your name was your name not buzz not tre and I would be a heel I would try to be that top heel that everyone hates
It's kinda my personal thing but I HATE how performance doesn't reflect on the story, like I beat my opponent to red health while barely losing any of mine----but in the cutscene: Tre is basically dead and his opponent runs around like Flash
I agree completely I would have actually finished the mode if they gave me a solid pre-made set of models for the MyCareer that looked like part of the game instead of the awkward mess I do my best with then keep trying to change to match the characters It would have been even better if they had a few options but that might be asking a lot
No need... here's why: Promos with atrocious grammar, repetitive promos - meaning no dialogue variety - repetitive rivalries and cutscenes, only three rivalries at a time, lack of diversity in rivalry matches, glitched to the point where rivalries no longer trigger cutscenes and news, scenes will be completely wrong and characters will not be where they should, which breaks the game, lack of relationship between characters - I.e: being able to select if two characters are siblings or lovers/married - among other things...
MCPunk55 - 2K20 was my 1st WWE game in years. After months of getting the game ready to play universe mode, editing entrances, CAWs, rosters, I started universe mode. Within days I gave up due to constant crashes & bought 2K19 last week. I'm now starting all over again in the hope I can finally get the full gaming experience I was hoping for first time.
MCPunk55 - Nooooo, please don't say that, it's the only thing that's keeping me entertained during this lockdown, preparing my roster in the hope I can actually play universe mode!
@@steveh4290 Just being realistic. If you owned a XBox360 or PS3, I'd suggest WWE13. It's the best so far, and works flawlessly. Or if your computer can run their respective emulators, you can play it that way.
You're absolutely right, it was like a Road to WrestleMania mode. I think WWE 2k16 had a good MyCareer , although it had limited voiceovers ...it was a MYCAREER
I completely understand what you're saying and I agree, they can't really call it mycareer when It's about someone else's career with you just altering their movesets and appearance etc. However I've really preferred and enjoy the modes in the past two games, especially since I used to get bored of the older mycareer modes (that's a personal problem though). The story and characters made me want to come back and play more. Whilst I do prefer the story driven modes, it would be good if they added that as a separate mode and had the more simulation like mode as the mycareer mode. Obviously that would be a lot harder with the time given and the fact that they need to update the engine and so on but that's just my thoughts
That’s why I’d prefer a true MyCareer and change this to Story Mode or something else. I’m working on a video to show what a true MyCareer could look like.
I didn't mind the career modes the last two years but like you said it was tough not being able to do your own thing. Would be great for them to have a 3 year or something between games so you could develop your character over time. Like you can have your own sort of career but they can send some sort of storyline package you have to complete if you want get the full experience of the game
WWE 2K19 My Career was where 2K peaked. WWE 2K17's My career was terrible, it was literally just Universe with your own CAW in it and it got so boring so quick.
Ngl, I picked up 2k20 after taking a break because of all the bugs that seemingly never got fixed in 2k17. I hoped on MyCareer ready to see how much better it got from the pretty great one in 2k17 and low and behold it's a poor mans Road to Wrestlemania.
makes sense if you put it that way, I would've loved the old my career but with tons of stories to play through, like in old svr games, not only authority or heyman's one
Wow I’ve never thought Of it the way u broke it down just now .. I’ve played 19 my career I didn’t get far but I really enjoyed it ... I keep putting of 2k20 even tho I wAnt to give a chance ... I have 18 I’ve never played the career but now I’m finna download it thnx man
I know exactly what you mean and what I hated most about these game modes had to do with the fact that you could only do what the story called for so if the story said to win you had to win the match no matter what I hate that you can’t just lose and go into another branch of a story
And this is why I cannot stand MyCareer Mode these days, I prefer wrestling games where you have the freedom to create characters and give them the look, gimmick and styles that you yourself wanted, having a preset character with an already established personality takes away from what I intended for my character, my wrestler has always had the gimmick of a wrestler who is a werewolf who taps into that power at big matches (like Demon Balor and Kishin Liger) and I want to reflect that in my moves and personality of my wrestler, I cannot do that when I'm being told by the game that I'm a bumbling idiot who decked it over a dinner tray or some dweeb who lives in his dad's van, even when I was being referred to as Jacob Cass it didn't feel right, I wasn't being my character, I was playing as some guy who seemed to have been possessed by Austin Aries.
SnipingIsFun Yh 2k20 story was the shittest story of all of the wrestling games as it was feminism all over the place instead of building both characters as legit superstars it made one look like a joke made u hate red for lying to tre and the ending wasn’t satisfying as Samoa joe still is champion(like he wanted) and Brooklyn still ends red and tre’s career(like she wanted)
he's got a valid point which is why personally 2k18 had the most relatable my career mode I don't like the fact I got a new name and story that I wouldn't want for my created character and that we should have got a main protagonist to play that character as well as a separate my career that was more like 2k18 problem solved
I think for attributes they should make it like pokemons LVL up system example if u wrestle Ray mysterio u get speed if u wrestle show u get strength or if u wrestle nakamuru u get grappling
What ruined it was when in 2k19 they started to have you do weird sci fi stuff with the Matt Hardy things, then in 2k20 it's not YOUR career, it's THEIR career and doing things like fighting in the snow and fucking dance off. It's ridiculous now
Everything he is saying is so true and I agree with him on every singleexcept I wish they could make it where you could go to different companies so you can make your own company and put it in my career your friends could join your MyCareer and being that company or you could go to evolve or something like that
Suprised they didnt have you beat undertaker at wrestlemania as red. But then again I dont want to give them any ideas in reality. That would just be an insult to his whole legacy
I admittedly DO enjoy the story modes we’ve had, and I wouldn’t quite want them to go away. I think what I’d prefer however is allowing a little more choice in them, and not ASSIGNING a personality to your character outside of maybe some more general aspects. I’m aware that for there to be as entertaining a story mode as these can be, you can’t COMPLETELY have freedom... But if it could work at all like the old Season Modes from SVR 2006, 2007, or hell even 2008, where you basically have a bunch of storylines that you could get into depending on how your career was going (whether you had a title, made certain choices, were a certain wrestler), I think it would be way more entertaining. Give me a looser narrative, but don’t get RID of the narrative entirely. As much as I enjoy the random storylines of HCTP, I’d much prefer something like the SVR games had for a time, perhaps a set of storylines that all kinda loosely connect to an end point, so you can replay it and see all the different things that can come to be. Like a more expansive, longer reaching version of 2006. EDIT: Oh yeah, and the old Day of Reckoning games pulled off REALLY fun story modes that didn’t really force your character to have a particular personality, outside of some more general concepts (you start off as a rookie and because this is a STORY MODE and you’re the PROTAGONIST you’re auto face, but hey, fair enough). Why can’t these career modes be like that? DOR2 was slightly less accessible but it WAS a sequel to the first game, so it was just continuing the fairly interesting plot the first one gave. Albeit forcing you on raw instead of letting you choose between raw or Smackdown.
2k18 was going in the right direction except they had the loot boxes and forcing players to go online to continue improving... People really wanted voice in their games, which is cool but it has the problem of making games very linear and short. I'd lile something like Shut Your Mouth! where you can walk around, ask for title shots, and basically earn your way to the top with near endless options for rivalries
Just make MyCareer about the player, not about some guy named Buzz, or two friends named Tre and Red. I'd rather make the game have no voices, but have compelling, actual storylines and different feuds similar to HCTP, and SvR season modes, rather than a really linear storyline where it just gives you the illusion of free choice.
The real kicker is that the story based versions are way more fun. Those 2K15-18 “season” modes were fucking boring. There hasn’t been a good season mode since than Here Comes the Pain, maybe SVR
I have played both. 20’s was god awful. I have never played a story mode that was written so poorly. The animations to were embarrassing. I have never played a story mode where I wanted to punch both of the main characters in the face by the end of it. 😂😂 You’re right it wasn’t our story, it was our characters following a story given to us.
I was never a fan of my career mode, as you said, because there was no good my career in wwe 2k games. They always say their main focus in games were my career while it has always sucked. And there was Universe mode which had so much potential to be a upgraded version of GM mode, but they seem to just not care at all. WWE shouldn't have worked with 2k from the beginning. Those Road to Wrestlemania modes were really exciting and unpredictable since it wasn't copied from the past like showcase or it wasn't a stupid story of a stupid person who wants to be a wrestler in wwe like in 2k19 and 20. Even the Universe mode had more cut scenes and variety back then. Screw 2k, they just want money.
this is how I feel smh and this is why I don't understand how 2k developers don't understand what my career mode is supposed to be like lol it should always be about your chooses in ever cutscenes it's your journey not 2k LOL but every year its 2k journey on what they want us to experience. smh just like universe mode no cutscenes should always be lower chooses smh
...Even though it wasn’t MY Career. I liked the 2k20 story. Although, REFRAIN FROM MAKING TRE your namesake.😂 Red was a wrestling focused hothead and Tre was an entertainment focused doofus. But I actually enjoyed the story.
It doesn't help that not only was it their career, but the characters Red/Tre are completely played for laughs with the personality of a bad rom-com movie. Had it been written with something grounded in reality with Red not coming off as a bit of a loony and Tre with an IQ of 1, I might've enjoyed the game even with some of it's bugs, lol.
Buzz was at least likeable. Red's just a Mary Sue and Tre's basically every feminist's wet dream because he's a failure and always second best to a woman.
I may be wrong but 2K18 was the real start for this personally. Did you want to cash in and win? Too bad triple H screwed you. Want to win the Royal Rumble? Too bad another cutscene of the Rock tossing you over. Not to mention it introduced loot crates and numerous bugs that made basic story sequences make no sense.
They changed because the loudest voices said "We want Story Mode back". But 2K needs to keep that micro-transaction patent so... we call it My Career now... and instead of getting the best of both worlds, we got the worst. Because we're talking about 2K... a company that can't even optimize a video game for the PC properly. But what you said is just "me me me". So it's an opinion, not an objective thing, which makes the entire thing misleading and pointless. Yeah, strong women exist, as well as goofy men. While it's true they could've been written for something other than promoting a Feminist agenda, Brooke Von Braun is a well written heel, as are most of Tre's rivals, minus Samoa Joe... his role makes him look like someone with severe mental issues. People are wanting the story mode back, not the My Career mode. In fact, we want a lot of things back... we want the THQ games back, not the 2K ones... the Create a Story mode with all the cheesy romance, epic fighting and attack scenes and hilarious banter scenes, the Create a Finisher, climb certain arena structures like the Smackdown fist, and I personally want a Universe mode that's written by people who know how to speak proper English... 'cause the grammar in Universe mode promos is atrocious. But people really aren't asking for more "My Career". That's why they changed it. The name is irrelevant.
Didnt play 2k20 but 2k19 was cringe . From the story itself ( a random guy who does not lose a single match even handicaps ) to dialoges . And you are right its a path you cant change and you have to go through it . I want to lose some matches , i dont want to be a super ultra babyface . Also i hate my character because of the story 😂
It’s simple, it’s not a “career mode” It’s a story mode. Which isn’t what we want. Yeah cutscenes are cool, but the voice actors they pick sound like high school kids going through puberty. They give you stupid ass nicknames (much like nba 2k my career.” You’re presented with choices in the cutscenes and just when you think “oh hell yeah I finally get to have some freedom.” nope, it makes the choices for you. I just dint get how hard it is to make a good my career mode. 10 years ago sports games my career modes were fucking awesome. It’s the only mode of ever play in them. They’re so ass now because they’re just half assed story modes.
18 had the best out of all the WWE 2k career modes but 20 is garbage for me and 19 was alright I guess but I got bored with it. It’s goofy af these days
2K18's mycareer was one the low tier in career mode history there were only 2 starts to a main roster debut (as far as I seen) either your jobbing or you are a champions hencemen. You didnt really have much choice on what championships you go for. Backstage was bland and so interacting with anyone backstage. With 2K16 it was you decdeing weither to side with the authority or go against them with some points to either turn on them or join them. And you have the choice to go after whatever title you wanted with little limitation. 2K17 had a very good build up. You had the performance center group that were involved and the option to become a paul haymen guy. 2K19 Buzz's Career was great and somewhat relatable but 2K20 the characters of Red and Tre are unlikeably espcially Tre. I know the Women having a MyCareer mode was cool and all but they didnt have to make Tre a huge joke. Also the way the told the story wasn't really good.

Now I universe mode for "MY-CAREER"
the main problem is that the last two "MyCareer" are just a story mode, like you said in the video, you can't evolve your Superstar like the previous WWE 2K with various personalities
@@MCPunk55 Every fucking body
Fucking everyone..my career mode is trash
Just looking at the trailers makes me not wanna buy the game, I'm tired of this feminist propaganda in wrestling
@@chikowashere just making sure
This is why they called it "my player"
I'm glad I seen this because I agree because it can't be my career if I can't make choices that affect me. You did a great gm aspect for 2k22 maybe make a career one as well.
Already have!
I believe it was Life is Strange 3 : WWE edition
Life Is Strange Is Better
Funny you should say that. Red's voice actress was also Rachel Amber in _Before the Storm._
@@Mysticmaster106 2k18 spent half of the career in the car park
this is such a fact . why the hell was red the badass and trey was the goofy punk . I’m not a fan of universe mode or showcase for that matter , so the mycareer sucking really ruined the game for me .
was great for me
What I do in those situations is just remake my character and put him in universe mode.
Good job.
No, thank YOU for watching.
No story branching/freedom case CLOSED
I agree completely
I would have actually finished the mode if they gave me a solid pre-made set of models for the MyCareer that looked like part of the game instead of the awkward mess I do my best with then keep trying to change to match the characters
It would have been even better if they had a few options but that might be asking a lot
Do a video on Why Universe Mode Failed Please
No need... here's why: Promos with atrocious grammar, repetitive promos - meaning no dialogue variety - repetitive rivalries and cutscenes, only three rivalries at a time, lack of diversity in rivalry matches, glitched to the point where rivalries no longer trigger cutscenes and news, scenes will be completely wrong and characters will not be where they should, which breaks the game, lack of relationship between characters - I.e: being able to select if two characters are siblings or lovers/married - among other things...
@@steveh4290 You won't. It crashes all the time too.
I actually prefer 2K19 and 2K20's story mode over the previous MyCareers.
Doing both would be best
Facts. The earlier ones were so empty and boring like there was TOO much freedom
@@VikingSizeGamer i'm looking forward to that video 😊
2k19 has an awesome my career
I actually liked losing matches in 2k18 because it was like being a actual wrestler, actual wrestler get telled to lose matches it part of life
I didn't mind the career modes the last two years but like you said it was tough not being able to do your own thing. Would be great for them to have a 3 year or something between games so you could develop your character over time. Like you can have your own sort of career but they can send some sort of storyline package you have to complete if you want get the full experience of the game
2K19 and 2K20's MyCareer mode is like story mode. But I'm gonna go with 2K19.
This is..... The best explanation of
Career Mode downfall
You say nba 2k20 prelude but that still gives you a lot of freedom
Wow I’ve never thought Of it the way u broke it down just now .. I’ve played 19 my career I didn’t get far but I really enjoyed it ... I keep putting of 2k20 even tho I wAnt to give a chance ... I have 18 I’ve never played the career but now I’m finna download it thnx man
The fiend should it be the final boss of 2k20 my career
MoonlightStrider I agree
Atleast the WWE2K20 has a great story line
19 does. 20 not so much. How they handled Tre and Red was stupid.
Definitely gotta say Day of Reckoning has the right idea
What ruined it was when in 2k19 they started to have you do weird sci fi stuff with the Matt Hardy things, then in 2k20 it's not YOUR career, it's THEIR career and doing things like fighting in the snow and fucking dance off. It's ridiculous now
The fact that we cant do anymore matches like in 2k19 they should have kept that
Everything he is saying is so true and I agree with him on every singleexcept I wish they could make it where you could go to different companies so you can make your own company and put it in my career your friends could join your MyCareer and being that company or you could go to evolve or something like that
I was so mad when tre was the comical goofball and red was the “strong and independent woman”
I would like to have story designer return instead and go back to separate road to wrestlemanias
WWE 2k17 had the best mycareer mode imo
It would have been better if the separated the stories of the male and female and have more choices.
its more of a storymode lately not a mycareer mode
edit: oh wow nvm he also said it
The real kicker is that the story based versions are way more fun. Those 2K15-18 “season” modes were fucking boring. There hasn’t been a good season mode since than Here Comes the Pain, maybe SVR
Honestly just go back to Road to Wrestlemania, SvR 12 had a perfect one
I have played both. 20’s was god awful. I have never played a story mode that was written so poorly. The animations to were embarrassing. I have never played a story mode where I wanted to punch both of the main characters in the face by the end of it. 😂😂 You’re right it wasn’t our story, it was our characters following a story given to us.
It failed a long time ago. I’m not buying another wwe game without a gm mode
2K19 had the best My Career Mode. 15, 16, 17, 18 felt the same. At a certain point, you are going nowhere lol.
Wwe 2k20 my career was kind of rushed.
This is all true I want all the good things back without the career
Being forced to lose in the game is boring. Just book me as the winner even if it’s not my character
We want Road to Wrestlemania,my career mode is not a fun mode in 2k..
I wish they would let you pick whether you want to play as a guy or a girl
Well let’s hope that can happen on WWE 2k22 where we can play a male MyCareer mode or a female MyCareer Mode instead of playing as both
I just want my GM mode back
this is how I feel smh and this is why I don't understand how 2k developers don't understand what my career mode is supposed to be like lol it should always be about your chooses in ever cutscenes it's your journey not 2k LOL but every year its 2k journey on what they want us to experience. smh just like universe mode no cutscenes should always be lower chooses smh
...Even though it wasn’t MY Career. I liked the 2k20 story. Although, REFRAIN FROM MAKING TRE your namesake.😂 Red was a wrestling focused hothead and Tre was an entertainment focused doofus. But I actually enjoyed the story.
2k18 caree mode was by far the worst
The journey was the best I finished all
Wwe 2K my career should be like nba 2K neighborhood u can walk around and play other players in a match
It doesn't help that not only was it their career, but the characters Red/Tre are completely played for laughs with the personality of a bad rom-com movie. Had it been written with something grounded in reality with Red not coming off as a bit of a loony and Tre with an IQ of 1, I might've enjoyed the game even with some of it's bugs, lol.
also awesome channel dude :D love your videos so far. Definitely subbing.
They should do a gm career mode
2k16 was the best 2k carrer mode i think
In my career mode I’m stuck on money in the bank match with red
IMO 2k19 MY CAREER WAS THE BEST OF NEXT GEN CONSOLES!
er...no
gamers best you don’t know what IMO means do you. In My Opinion. I didn’t say it is the best I said In my opinion it is. It’s the best to me
er....
no
Buzz was at least likeable. Red's just a Mary Sue and Tre's basically every feminist's wet dream because he's a failure and always second best to a woman.
I'm still trying to figure out why every Toni storm attire I download she has no hair in her entrance🤔
Right? I had to give her a weird hooded cloak for her entrance to hide that. But it ended up looking pretty cool anyway. :)
@@SeanPfordWrestling oh nice! I might try that :)
My career is so boring even in 2k19.
We still facing the same issue in My rise ..., Go play wrestling Empire
Didnt play 2k20 but 2k19 was cringe . From the story itself ( a random guy who does not lose a single match even handicaps ) to dialoges . And you are right its a path you cant change and you have to go through it . I want to lose some matches , i dont want to be a super ultra babyface . Also i hate my character because of the story 😂
2k19 in my opinion has the best story
2k just getting worse with each game every year even nba
Ilike the rtwm stories ifbthey want to do linear stories do that.
My career needs to be open
2k17-19 was awesome
Eh I found Tre’s antics to be amusing
best wwe 2k game? 2K18? or 2K19?
