5 crays in one net! Catching Murray Crayfish with chicken necks
Вставка
- Опубліковано 8 вер 2024
- I had a very successful open to crayfish season, even if it was 3 days late due to travel restrictions. My only regret is not arriving earlier in the day! Chicken necks proved to be the bait of choice by the local crayfish population, only 2 crays were caught on dog food tied into stockings. Most of the catches were between 8 and 10cm carapace length, with 1 of them being just legal, but all crayfish were safely released.

Awesome work mate. 5 crays in 1 net is a bloody good effort, well done.
Thanks heaps Robbie, I reckon it was a record for me haha
Great catch, 5 crayfish in one net at once. Bravo.
Thanks 👍
Great stuff Rowan. Chicken necks rule. That's all we use for crays and yabbies.
Thanks Craig! That's the first time I've used them for crays but I've used them for yabbies in the past. I'll be using them in my cray nets more often now lol
Wow cantik betul udang lobster air tawar nya 😍
Great way to start your season Rohan. 5 Crays in that net is something to remember, it doesn't happen often.
Thanks so much Robert! Yeah I reckon that was the best lift of a crayfish net I've ever had haha. It's going to be hard to top
Only ever seen a Murray Cray in the watts river in Healsville good job mate!
Thanks so much mate
Awesome specimen really good job
Cheers buddy
Great video mate love it
Thanks so much mate
5 in one net. Nice!
Cheers Trevor!
Gotta love getting 5 in one net 👌🏼 good work
Thanks heaps Mark
Good to watch
Thanks Alan!
Pork chop bones work well on cray fish here. Great video and thanks for showing us.
Thanks so much! and thanks for the tip about pork chop bones, I'll have to try that sometime.
Great work mate, hope they let me loose so I can have a crack lol,
I've got the biggest Crayfish on the Goulburn River but up stream at Thornton..
Thanks so much Jim, here's hoping mate! I'm keen to give Thornton a crack actually, good to hear there's some big ones around there!
Great to watch great to see that quantity of Crays
Thanks so much Peter, it was certainly more than I expected to catch!
Awesome video Rohan, what a great result.
Thanks so much Glen, glad you enjoyed it mate.
Well done Rohan great catch of Crays. 👍👍🍻🍻
Thanks heaps Julian
Nice one Rohan 👍🙂
Thanks heaps Starks
i like the slow walk release
Haha thanks John! I had to speed it up about 16x or we would have been there for hours watching them walk away lol
good stuff rowan
Thanks Billy!
Good job Rohan 👍🏻
Like the T-shirt as well.
Thanks so much Chris. Haha yeah my daughters got me that shirt for fathers day a couple of years back, I love it lol
Great work and fun to watch. So many questions, but the one i have to ask, what kind of damage can they do on fingers?
Thanks so much Larry. I've never been nipped by one but I've had a few close calls haha. My mate Robbie got pinned by one on his finger last year, the video is on his channel over at robbiefishing if you wanna check it out! The big ones can most likely severely cut you and break your bone, if not take a finger off completely. I'm hoping to never find out haha
@@RKJFishing It looks like they could do some damage, was just wondering because of their size. Thanks!
Dang Ro! Those things are huge!!
haha yeah, and these were all below the legal size limit lol
5 crabs in 1 pull isn't a bad effort! By the way, LOVE your shirt, mate!
Haha thanks mate
I can't get over how large the crawfish are over there. I've eaten lobsters smaller that that!
haha yeah they are pretty crazy! Especially considering these were all undersize haha. I pulled out a mammoth one last year that was oversize lol!
What a day!!! Loved the video
Thanks heaps Brayden
Good on ya mate👍
Thanks 👍
Nice work mate. 5 in one lift is a pretty good result.
Thanks Ross 👍
Great session Rohan. I see lobsters for sale here of a similar size! 🇨🇦 👍🏻🦞
Thanks so much Alan! It's crazy to think that these were all under legal size as well haha. I'm hoping to catch a monster like I did last season, fingers crossed!
winner winner chicken dinner. wow that elevator music really makes them move👍
Hahaha yeah it sure does mate! They hear that music and they do the salsa lol
Great work Rohan. Mate the chicken necks are always my go to bait for yabbys. They are cheap and they work
Thanks Adrian! That was the first time I'd used them for crayfish and I was expecting most to go for the dogfood to be honest haha. I'll make sure I always pack some chicken necks in the future, they seem to love em!
First to here
I think you were first with your other comment, but 3rd with this one lol
Cracking effort!!
Thanks mate
You mean you guys in Australia were prevented from traveling in your country? I live in America and i drove wherever i needed to go. 😢
Yes it was terrible, the leader of our state was a dictator, even changed laws so he had more power. We weren't even allowed to leave our house for more than 1 hour a day at times. Broke all trust I had in the system, and they'll never get it back.
Well done 👍, that was a good first Check 5 in 1. Doesn't matter if you fish from the bank or a boat you'll always get ya net snagged. Have a pet one that I caught year's ago that was heading for the pot with another one once they were home didn't have the heart too do it (soft moment), unfortunately the male got out and died cracking it's shell last summer. The female is starting to get over size. Most likely to be released in the coming months.
Thanks heaps Craig! I really want to bring one home to keep as a pet but I'm worried that I wouldn't be able to look after it properly, I have a big tank but no filter and no other accessories. If you release the female once it's over legal size then it should be free to live out the rest of it's life in the river helping populate the next generations which is really cool!
That seems fun!! Those little buggers look mean, I wouldn't like to a clip from them 😅
Haha yeah, and the spikes are all razor sharp as well. I came home with very sore fingers!
You should do a catch and cook, wow you got 5 in one net
I might do one in the future! Thanks Hayley
good video a feed of them would go down nicely and i see your on the Goulburn river did you go to go fish nagambi?
Thanks so much John! Nah I didn't make it this year but hoping to get to it next year!
❤❤❤❤❤👍👍👍👍👍👍
Waiting half an hour is showing 25 mins more patience than Robbie.
hahaha, on the 1st check I reckon you're right mate. He always sneaks that impatient check lol
Wow that was Crayzee
Haha yeah it sure was Gary
Great stuff mate you done a excellent job I've been waiting for this video since I seen you lol
Haha thanks heaps Chris. Glad you enjoyed it mate. Hopefully the first of at least a few cray videos this season
How far is it from the airport thinking about doing a trip just to catch some of these for a video
I haven't timed it but I reckon about 3 hours
@@RKJFishing See what happens but I would love to go down and make a video on this stuff it’s only a flight in a higher car when does the season finish
Season is open at the start of winter and closes at the end of winter
Nice catch Rohan, but I didn't think any of the cray had chicken necks .....
hahaha thanks Frank
Nyimak kawan
Nice work looks like you had fun except for destroying one net. Hopefully you'll get a feed next time cheers
Thanks so much Robert
Great job mate ! Haven’t had a chance to give the crays a crack but definitely will soon.
What part of the Goulburn were you fishing ?
Thanks so much mate. That's the lower Goulburn
Looks like a absolutely awesome day 👍 please do a clip how to cook them ❤ to know legend
Thanks so much mate! If I end up keeping one this year I'll considering doing a catch a cook for ya mate
Why do they have white claws? Good open on them
Thanks James! Murray Spiny Crayfish have those iconic white claws, but I'm not sure exactly why to be honest. Gippsland Crayfish have similar claws that aren't white
hey mate whats the biggest cray you have ever caught
I caught it in a video last year, it was 14cm from the eye to the top of the tail
Enjoy your well earned dinner.
Thanks Vincent, I didn't keep any but the chicken and vegetables that my wife prepared were lovely
@@RKJFishing sounds like a good woman. I'd love to eat a few of those lads.
Someday when this crazy world settles down, you will mate.
Great vid I could be wrong but isn’t it meant to be in the eye to the back of the head?
Thanks mate! The official measure is from the back of the eye socket to the back of the carapace, which is where the tail meets the main body
Aren't crocodiles 🐊🐊 in that water? 👀
No thank god!! I'm in the south east part of Australia, all the crocs are up north
hey mate im new to cray fishing what traps would u recommend and are kmart traps worth buying
In that video I'm using hoop nets that are available in most fishing stores, but the hoop nets they have at K-mart work just fine as well! Just make sure the nets you are buying meet the rules and regulations for your area, certain waterways don't allow the use of the pyramid style nets for example. You can check up on all the rules about nets on the Victorian Fisheries website here: vfa.vic.gov.au/recreational-fishing/recreational-fishing-guide/fishing-equipment/permitted-fishing-equipment/using-equipment-in-inland-waters
@@RKJFishing yea thank you what camera do u also use sorry about all these questions im tryna start my channel up because i just brought a hero 3
Hey mate ask as many questions as you like I don't mind at all! Sorry for the late reply I've been really busy. I have 2 cameras, my main one is a GoPro hero 8 but I've also got a hero 5 that I use as a backup. Some of the first videos on my channel were filmed with a hero 3 they are a great camera, they should help you get some awesome footage.
Were did u catch there
In the Goulburn river Kerryl
@@RKJFishing thank u. Id luv on for mum. Grew up in riverland.
May i ask where this is?
On the Goulburn River mate
@@RKJFishing thanks
What location?
Goulburn river in Victoria
No crocodiles around ??
No mate the crocs are all up north. I'm safe down here in Victoria
@@RKJFishing
Good deal. Those are giant crayfish compared to the ones in the states !!
shame they wernt big enougth for a feed , better luck next time.
Thanks heaps Mick, I still had loads of fun and got some good footage so I can't complain hehe
First
I reckon you were a close second place mate, but still very quick!
You done better than Robbie
I just got lucky with that 1 net check haha. I reckon Robbie will catch heaps more now that he is allowed to travel!
I once got pinched on the nipple by one of them as a dare. I will not be doing that again. EVER!
haha I can imagine that hurt. Did you need stitches?
@@RKJFishing No actually, but the pointy tips of the claws did make two painful holes
Are you ok … sounds like you’re out of breath.
Yeah mate I probably was, it was a very steep slippery bank lol
Great video mate 👍👍
Thanks so much Riley!
