@@gaberobison680 with all due respect because I do not personally know you. This is a flawed stance. Games are meant to be fun, and that fun is what feeds into the escapism someone experiences. If grinding is fun for you, then you will enjoy that aspect of a game or playstyle. Whereas someone who doesn’t invest as much time into gaming but still enjoys a few hours on the weekend may want an easier approach. Or someone rather enjoys the narrative but finds the mechanics to be overwhelming, and can’t be asked to spike their difficulty. The notion that in order to be a “real gamer” you have to make gaming less fun for yourself is wrong. I personally enjoy a good challenge but I don’t believe in pushing that onto others

The amateur run where the first time player thinks part time jobs are the best way to raise money, avoid grinding, and either forgets or ignores most of the useful mechanics or has no idea those mechanics exists. A part of me wonders if Atlus thought of runs like this would be done by amateurs which is why this game is so easy, even on hard difficulty the further you get. The only part that is inaccurate is doing the palace in one day. You do the palace one day per saferoom.
I seriously doubt it. If the game doesn't challenge you on harder difficulty, it defeats the purpose of that difficulty. They have found a nice difficulty curve in original P3 and P4 and started adding mechanics to that curve without balancing around them.

Yes persona 5 royal is easy as sin, but persona 3's most challenging points are minibosses who have excessive mechanics that are just irritating to deal with and not exactly fun (also I played it on the portable version with direct control because not controlling the party members was just irritating). The major bosses were all very easy Persona 4 has the least creatively interesting bosses of the three games. The last 4 ish maybe 5 felt almost exactly the same to fight and not very difficult to deal with. Just all magic type skills and almighty special attacks with negligible mechanics. This made fighting them feel repetitive Persona 5 is easy, but the bosses all felt like they had interesting variety (kinda like P3). This may be from baton pass, because I feel like that mechanic alone makes the encounters feel more interactive The issue with the big three persona games is that they give all the strengths to a main character who gets overpowered fast. Past the first or second dungeon the MC will have several very strong multi element covering personas and buffing skills and then the game is over other than dying to enemies that you don't know the weaknesses of (or in persona 3's case instant kills skills not fucking working on dark and light weak enemies)

Just finished the video, what a great challenge run! I've been doing a similar one with slightly less restrictions, that Okumura fight was insane itemless and never even thought Madarame would be possible without revives. Super excited to see what videos you come out with in the future!

Honestly, I love the difficulty, it let me experiment and screw up and make janky builds, so when I go play the other SMT/Persona games I know what I'm doing. (Not to mention, I loved the theme of rebelling against society, even if it could've been handled a little better)
The biggest achievement here was managing to finally pronounce Scathach and Cu Chulainn correctly. Great job btw, I'll be waiting the next challenge run!

1:16:04 Futaba says "Hehehe, I love that reference!" which she only says when Ryuji and Makoto use their Showtime attack. The fight would've been possible regardless by doing the reflect strat, so this is really just a nitpick more than anything else, but it's something that caught my eye.
Random tidbit of advice to cheese sae's boss fight that I discovered in a challenge run of my own, sae's almighty phase is a complete and utter lie nearly all of her attacks are either physical and gun and I only discovered this after a REALLY long fight (i barely did any damage due to my ruleset) and getting critted near the end, obviously something you can't do with almighty, my frustration with getting cheated by a crit was soothed by being able to cheese that phase entirely with ghrim
The first time I went against Sae, Haru had a physical reflect wall up on everyone, and when it hit almighty she used a full party physical attack and one shot herself lol
What I find most interesting is that in a run that "bans everything useful" you restrict Tetrakarn and Mamarakarn but you allow personas that Null/Repel physical. While I have never done a challenge run with quite as many rules as you had, anything that could Null/Drain/Repel physical was the first thing I banned for my own challenge runs.
Love the concept but I see a flaw right off the bat.... techincally speaking the most useless way to spend your time in persona 5 is using every available day to go into the palace, do nothing and then return to the real world.
In my opinion the mementos requests and the requests for confidants should have been allowed, so you could progress them more. Not grinding in mementos of course but I feel like that would still be in the spirit of the challenge

On akechis first phase with the ads if u can down both shadows before u kill them u can all out attack and it skips to akechis last phase but idk y it does this
I like howin 5 Royal, even after defeating Maruki, Joker's morals as one of the Phantom Thieves of Hearts, do not waver. He goes out of his way to save Maruki who intends to die as things collapse. But Joker refuses to let Maruki die like this. Truly a pure hero. Not even letting the main villain die when he could've easily turned away as Maruki's reality collapses, and have the excuse that he didn't kill him, and that the ground collapsed below him and he fell to his death. No, Joker's morals will not allow any Palace owner to die if they can help it. Plus, although he was a villain, all Maruki wanted was the best for everyone, and was willing to abuse his powers to give what he felt would make people happy. He even befriended the Phantom Thieves, Joker wasn't going to allow his friend to die, even though Maruki became a villain that was defeated by the Phantom Thieves. The Phantom Thieves are truly heroes. Not even letting their targets die if they can help it. Back at the first Palace, Ann could've easily killed Kamoshida to end his evil for good. But, she didn't let her grudges and hatred of him take over her morals. She spared him, so that he could face justice for what he did. The Phantom Thieves may technically be criminals who use morally grey methods to stop evil, but they aren't killers
Will Seeds are not the only way to restore SP in Shido's Palace. You also restore a very small amount of both HP and SP when eating the caged cheese in mouse form.
I've always had a challenge run idea, beating Persona 5 royal without baton pass. Obviously it'd be incredibly easy compared to something like this and I'd argue not even worthy of a challenge run, I just think it would prove my point that Baton Pass is kinda busted and poorly implemented. In the previous games getting an all out attack wasn't that frequent because you couldn't pass the 1 more to a teammate, so there was more strategy and thinking, and since in P5 the enemies can't baton pass and they don't have dedicated counters to it (you can't baton pass if you are downed or if you have a status effect but with how fast you wipe enemies out it isn't much of a challange), so I feel it was kind of shoved in without much thought. I beat Kamoshida's palace this way and the combat was rock solid this way, since they took P4s combat and just added the mechanic without a counter it means it can be ignored altogether and the result is a much more strategic combat, you should at least give it a try
@@furiouscorgi6614 yeah, so it makes ambushing way more desirable since now you are guaranteed to have the initiative, because if you forego the baton pass not getting an ambush means you are most definitely gonna get hit, which means there's a constant drain of your resources, pushing you to make more intelligent decisions in battles
@makiiavely there's already a constant drain on resources, only it's SP and not HP. Otherwise, you can traverse way too much through hiding spots, which guarantee ambushes. And the Grappling Hook upgrade from Yoshizawa rank 5, which gives ambushes from range when not hiding. Even with Shift and Baton Pass, I'm still going to go for ambushes anyway.

This reminds me of this one youtuber, that play this game blind and just refusing to use the game mechanics (such as the velvet room cuz he hate the twin, refusing to catch persona and let the ai control the characters and only block with joker). When he beat the game, he juat say how much he hate the gameplay but love the story, kinda funny but also frustrating to watch

I feel like I'm in the minority where I enjoy the fact Persona 5 is easy. I grinded to level 99 for Maruki and it was a lot of fun.
Persona games are as easy as you want them to be, which is something I really like about them.

This reminds me of this one youtuber, that play this game blind and just refusing to use the game mechanics (such as the velvet room cuz he hate the twin, refusing to catch persona and let the ai control the characters and only block with joker). When he beat the game, he juat say how much he hate the gameplay but love the story, kinda funny but also frustrating to watch
