I love this song, it feels very "Zen" to me". I have often quoted the verse that begins with "Need is a relative thing these days, it borders on desire" because I find it very relative in these times. It can be very hard at times to differentiate between what we need and what we simply *want* as there are so many "bright shiny things" that tempt you and distract you from what is truly important. I always felt that this song represented him taking some time to relax and get re-entered after all his adventures, trying to follow the equator to the "Far Side of the World." I guess now I'll never know if my interpretation was correct or simply relevant. But he said that the song tied the whole album together, so maybe my instincts are on track.
I just moved back to Pascagoula from the Eastern Shore (Weeks Bay of Fairhope) and tonight, I just need my guitar (and to get my taxes done). Thanks for posting Jimmy!
Every now and then a song comes along where, the first time I hear it, I have to just pick the needle up and put it back at the beginning (am I dating myself? Ok, press "skip" back to the beginning) and listen to it again. And again. And ... again. This is one of those songs. Love to see that guitar, btw.
If you're dating yourself, then so are those of us who understand exactly what you are saying. And there's nothing wrong with dating ourselves: It's just shows how strong we are and that we somehow managed to get past and escape all the foolish mistakes and escapades of our youth and lived to tell the tale. We're the survivors, and we have the scars to prove it!

miss you badly, Jimmy we love you madly, feeling so sadly since you've been gone...
One of my favorite songs! RIP Jimmy! Thanks for the music and memories!
“With my history of wrecks, I think it’s time to check, the crab trap of life once more”… one of Jimmy’s best lyrics ever! Great tune!
God bless you, Mr. Buffett. Your grandfather is so happy this evening...
Beautiful 😻 just Jimmy and his guitar
