What is kinda terrifying is having recently learned how incubators have developed. Between improvements to help increasingly premature infants and biologist making incubators so they can visually observe zygote development, some are estimating we could incubate a human being from conception to birth in about 8 to 10 years. All a government would need to compete in a supersolder arms race is quietly obtain donated eggs and sperm and raise batches of experimental humans in secret. Of course this is still lagistacly difficult to do in secret, but the fact that it entirely possible in the next few decades is insane.

Every war, every dictatorship, every unfair law and the laws that create monopolies, every problem today is politicians fault. Both, left and right problems, are just politicians fault.

There's just one tiny problem with the supersoldier stuff.
I understand that for that to work you'd need to edit the embryo, so then, you'd have to force a bunch of people to be soldiers from birth, and subsequently having other roles and "classes" imposed from birth.

honestly, as impressive as genetically enhanced super soldiers might be, I'd be more worried about cybernetically enhanced super soldiers, since GESS are still limited by what DNA could do, where as Cyborgs could do things that are outright beyond biology, the GESS has super-dense muscles taken from gorillas/chimpanzees capable of lifting almost 5 tonnes, while the cyborg has hydraulics capable of lifting 50 (just pulling numbers from nowhere but you get my point)

But something I’ve always wondered about cybernetics and the fascination of cybernetic enhanced super soldiers, what’s to say that they couldn’t be taken out or rendered “useless” with an EMP blast of some sort? When / if a cybernetic super soldier program becomes a thing, I’d assume humanity would be at a very advanced state in terms of technology, with EMP technology being in an advanced state also. Every other creature on this planet can & would do the same. The only thing that limits expansion is environmental pressure -- EXCEPT in humans, where our consciousness allows us the possibility of limiting ourselves.
If the world was awash in shallow, warm ponds with no dominant predator, would the mosquito not reproduce & thrive until it sucked every last drop of blood from every animal until all were dead, and then with no food source, die off en masse?
As far as we know, humans are the only animal with the intelligence to realize their impact on the environment that might impair our survival, although I'd be remiss not to grant that it's incredibly hard to feel that way right now.

I have wanted this topic to be explored so badly. I know so many people have strong emotions about this, but in all reality this is a amazing achievement of human capabilities, health care, human attributes, we can work through any trial and error to gain so much benefits from this field of science. And this won't spread like a virus, these things can only directly effect the people who have children after the gene editing. And even then, it's not 100% that that gene will transfer and be active in your baby when passed from the parent. The mom has the dad has another. So it's very much more likely that the original crisper embryo would gain the added Gene's, and then if a family lineage builds off of that individual, then it's more likely that in that family lineage throughout the generations will have some random individuals in that bloodline with those active genes in them. It can be very helpful. Honestly, life in general is very risky. Just naturally reproducing organisms have a very likely chance that their children could have a medical condition... So in all seriousness, we're not really altering much, if anything, if things get advanced, we could be actually increasing the likelihood of healthy reproduction. Alternatively, say this was never a situation, the bar of standard was stuck at a pretty low point, with medical issues being highly common. So the bar isn't super high level and we're irresponsibly tossing that out the window. Also, last point. This will only be an option for very very very few people in all reality. Either, the richest of the rich, or select individuals that agree towards trials and study's that they would probably follow the individual as they grow and see how things are, do tests, see if certain things are doing well and equally if things are not doing well, so it's going to take a long time to get this zoned in and calibrated but once our knowledge and understand of it and the make up of our genes and how they are activated, etc. It could greatly improve our species as a whole but probably the biggest factor in the far far future is "those who have advanced Gene's and those who happened to not have them?" But it's always something like that in nature, be in high altitude adaptive people, free diving swimmers, endurance athletes, people with the Hercules gene that allows them to naturally have more muscle than normal people. So it's just a matter of keeping the right goals and perspective on this. It's potentially one of the greatest chapters in our evolution since we've gotten to this era of our timeline.

I’m reminded of a Voyager episode where B’lanna Torres was captured by silver robots and made to try to figure out how to build compatible power cores so they could start creating new robots.
She almost succeeds but is rescued before she can. And it’s revealed that the silver robots are fighting an almost identical version of bronze coloured robots in a war against each other.
Then it’s revealed that both groups of robots were created for a war between two alien factions to fight for them. But when the aliens wanted peace, for the war to end, the robots now saw them as the enemy and both factions were made extinct by their own robot armies. Then the silver and bronze robots resumed their war against each other. Pointless war. Just because they were programmed.
The only thing is that they can’t make new versions of themselves because their biological creators made the power units very hard to build. Beyond the capability of the robots themselves.
So without the ability to “reproduce” eventually the silver or bronze version will eventually win. I guess after that the victor version would find someone else to fight until eventually someone wipes them out too.
There are times when I wonder if we’ll end up like that.

Actually, what’s scarier than editing the human genome to artificially make the “best” version of humanity’s genome potential is just the first step.
The bit that freaks me out if I think about it is… what will happen when someone decides that Super soldiers need traits from other species? There are a lot of remarkable things animals can do. Imagine if we took the shocking potential from electric eels? What if we could give our soldiers the sonar abilities of bats? What if we made humans with the ability to change colour like chameleons? Or mask infrared emissions like the Indonymous Rex in Jurassic Park? (I forgot which animal is was taken from. Cuttlefish I think?)
CRISPR can do all of that. Granted it would probably be hard to change a human that much without unwanted side effects but it could be done eventually.
And don’t get me started on what might happen if all that’s done as well as cybernetic enhancements.

As a fan of John Scalzi's "Old Man's War", I really hope this is the way gene edited soldiers go. Why mess with the genetics of an unknown human, when you could edit the genes of a known human and enhance what's already there. Without giving the plot of the book away (because it's one of my favorites, blending humor and suspense in a way the MCU has mastered before Ironman ever hit theatre's), 60 year olds are expected to enlist into the military and then live the next 20 years as they normally would. Once they turn 80, they wake up in their genetically modified 20 year old bodies. They then go off to fight the world's enemies around the universe.

      @kavinunethsarakoswattage3516 2 роки тому +2

@@nourmuhsen Well, I think neorlink would do quite the opposite, if it succeeds.
More efficient usage of Neurolink would be to create dual-intelligence systems. Brain and an AI acting together through extensive communications while maintaining a degree of individuality.
That way it can make an optimal system with each part of the new "dual conciousness" supplementing the caveats of the other.
And will allow for multiple "thinkings" ( not "thoughts", brain can already do that. Something like considering two conceptually unrelated things at the same time ) to be done at the same time parallely, like the way multi-core processors work nowadays.
Problem would be the question of *the individuality* and the ownership of the thoughts. If another conciousness is involved in the thought process, is it really the same person thinking? Or is there one person at all?
I think that it could still be considered the same person ( as much as a person is the person he was a minute ago is ), just extended. Computers are already doing it to us. Our Smart Phones are extensions of our own mind, seing that we use them to ofload part of our thinking. They are involved in making our discisions more than we give them credit for.
But I am just an arm-chair man imagining stuff up, so it might as well not be :-)

    • @nourmuhsen
      @nourmuhsen 2 роки тому

@Kavinu Nethsara Koswattage No, Neuro Link works on giving your brain more computational power(and memory) to be able to keep up with AI(when it is powerful enough). It doesn't need AI at all. That would be counter-intuitive. And phones do work like that. They give us the mental power to use our brain for things that are not memorising-related.

In the future, we will likely see the UN and other groups passing laws and legislations, conventions, etc. that there has to be a certain ratio of human soldiers/operators to autonomous combatants involved in any military, police, or relief operations.
That being said, amplifying the human animal seems to be another method in keeping human combatants viable in modern and post-modern warfare. This is already being done with the recent developments in exo-skeletons, augmented reality implementation, genetic conditioning, and improved/dynamic training regiments.
TL;DR: Future wars will be fought by a combination of autonomous robotic drones/satellites as well as augmented human soldiers.

It makes it easier to scale various buildings, walls, or other such structures, make it more efficient to cross creeks, swamps and some other bodies of water. Offer better operation under hot sunny conditions or when in winter. The Swiss Army knife of body protection. Interestingly the military did use such an item, yet impressive as it was, they used it completely wrong. If slightly modified and used differently it would offer an immensely more opportunity for protection. It would offer safer protection in urban, forest, snow, fields, the majority of battle conditions.

Yeah this subject drives me insane…. The process of naturally evolving the genetic code over thousands of years is slow for a reason. We could discover methods to make someone immune to illness with one alteration that seems to have nothing but pros and no cons. Just to find out hundreds of years later that there was an unrealized consequence that we weren’t aware of until the entire human species is trapped in a bad situation because it was considered “safe” and “harmless” editing for a hundred years already. Things like this don’t show the full consequences in a 12 year clinical trial. It’ll eradicate an entire species after a thousand. Of course then we’ll just edit again and again and again to eliminate the next undesirable trait…. Losing track of our starting point and introducing so many unknowns and variables it would be impossible to determine at which point we made a bad edit.
You don’t have to be religious to understand this is stupid… humans don’t have the patience for this kind of science, nor are we historically responsible enough for it.

Until we change our hearts our minds will be driven by lust, greed and material gratification. Change your heart, be the change. Lvya Thoughty2.

It's interesting that just a few months ago I was discussing a concept for a book with this exact theme.

You didn't mention gene editing of non-embryos, using CRISPR. It's possible, just more difficult.

If we let robots fight the wars the next logical step would be to replace all wars with some kind of no rules Battle Bot tournaments. I'd like that

I'd probably make my lil gene bundle have good technical skills. Someone has to fix all the computerized home stuffs once I get too old/shaky/forgetful/etc to operate the smart fridge let alone repair it.

We already have lasers to a degree but they are banned in warfare due to how they can blind, we also have camouflage tech being developed as simple as a suit that takes constant feed of what's behind you placing it in front of you but this doesn't hide against things like thermal or heartbeat sensors.

Just the abbreviation CRISPR freaks me out after reading about the tech with Whitley Steiner near 40years ago. Same as the tech used in Winter Soldier it's totally world changing.

Top tier technology is probably anywhere from 300 - 500 years ahead of everything we see everyday so it's nice of them too come clean once in awhile after decades of research development and application....
