It is crazy that scrolling is not working with 1st gen devices both ( trackpad and mouse). I’m an apple fun but this update is pure marketing. 90% of the things seen in this video were possible with previous version of iPad OS and a Logitech mouse. This is sad.
Another tip: If you have a mouse with a scroll wheel and want to scroll horizontally, hold shift on your keyboard and scroll at the same time.

I absolutely love the mouse support for iPadOS, hopefully they keep working on it and making it better overtime. I’m using HP Z5000 bluetooth mouse, it’s a cheaper alternative for the logitech pebble. It works perfectly for me. 👍🏻

you are able to change right button and left button commands, accessability, pointer control, assistant touch settings, mouse or track pad, change right button and left button. Example I change my right button to single tap and my left button to dock.

And....I had given up and purchased a mouse to just do it myself and if I didn't like the mouse I would just return it. HI, Jeff. Once thing worth mentioning is how much of an improvement using a trackpad (in my case) is to people using the Ipad regularly on portrait mode while using a keyboard. Not having to reach high up all the time is an ergonomic blessing. I will only buy the new keyboard the day you seamlessly switch form portrait to landscape the same I do on my stand. I use an ipad pro and ipad mini side by side portrait mode, and it’s my favourite way of working.
This video just convinced me to cancel my order for the ipad magic keyboard and buy the Magic Trackpad in conjunction with my keyboard folio case instead
Jeff Davis I’ve been considering doing the exact same thing. At least I won’t have to wait 3-4 weeks on this track pad and I can still use my iPad in tablet mode without having to remove it from its keyboard folio case every time
Using my trackpad now. This is the first time since the first iPad this feels like more than just a big iPhone.

Great video! Personally, I am using a Logitech MX Master mouse and have been delighted with its functionality on the iPad.
Just got my trackpad-have to say, silver is not silver except for the band, it is white much like the Apple CC. I also know now why I never cared for the trackpad on my Macbook Pro-I would have to move my right arm to center of device to use it whereas a freestanding trackpad is to right of device (righthanded) and is much more comfortable to use. Very glad I bought it-scrolling is lovely, the rest of gestures will soon become second nature.

I’m using an older iPad Pro with physical home button along with a Magic Mouse 2. How can I close an app using the mouse ? Also, since I don’t have the slide button at the bottom, how can I trigger the multitask screen with the mouse ? I usually double click the home button. Thank you very much for this tutorial! 🏆
NATURAL scrolling: When you scroll UP, the *content* does not go down. It goes UP. And when you slide DOWN, the content DO goes WN.
Actually what you're talking about is the content *view*, which is the vertical window scroll bar, not the content itself. That is what goes up and down opposite to your scrolling action.
In case you have an iPad with Home Button, you can use assistive touch to map your mouse buttons to get to home screen etc. There is also a setting i.e., Always Show Menu, that you can disable so when you are using the mouse the Assistive Touch menu is not shown. A setting that allows you to map keys without the need od Assistive touch would be better
Does not seem to work with Magic Trackpad 1, no two finger scroll etc. this is really disappointing

I’ve sent a link to friends and will probably re-view this video whenever I’m able to get my grubby little mitts on a Magic Keyboard with trackpad, since I’m only usin a Magic Mouse 2 right now. Speaking of MM2 support, is anyone noticing some lag before the pointer starts moving whenever you start using the MM2? It’s noticeable, annoyingly so, on my 2018 iPad Pro.
I also find the pointer animations a bit jarring, and would rather see the cursor. Still looks good though, I just still haven’t gotten used to it.
So I tried to connect the first Magic Mouse, I cannot scroll, or move the screen, like how you would use your finger to scroll at the home pege, or scroll up and down on UA-cam. Is it just me or other people also having this issue?

I tried first gen mouse and it won’t work. I’m using my 2nd gen and it works fine. Must not work with first gen.

Neither magic trackpad nor Magic Mouse the scrolling or any other touch capability works. I’ll go back to my Logitech 30€ mouse that fully worked also with previous versions. This update is pure marketing

Really useful. I’m testing some of these tips w/ my little Samsung Bluetooth mouse, but definitely plan to get a trackpad soon for all the functionality.

I have an old 1st gen Magic Mouse and it works but no scrolling (not the biggest deal since you can use your finger)
Spectacular video. Something I had difficulty working, was the four finger pinch-out to go home. I feel like this gesture doesn’t work as reliably as four finger swipe up
If you turn on Assistive Touch you can reprogram all your mouse buttons. The con is that you have to view the Assistive Touch button on screen.
It's more about the track pad because the blogger likes it, rather than showing gesture settings for Magic Mouse.
The button morphing reminds me of the Lexus trackpad

With ios 13.4 the bluetooth keyboard both Apple and Logitech no longer works, and both the letters and the keys seem to have gone mad.

I am currently testing my magic trackpad 2 while at the same time watching your tutorial. The only gesture I haven't mastered yet is the one with Slide Over apps. I still don't know how to pop them up and how to slide the pointer to the right edge of the screen :-( Thanks for your video! This is very useful!

Rocking iPad Pro 10.5 with Magic Trackpad 1. Yes old devices work just fine with new OS. But only single finger . No two fingers gesture
Yep using IOS13.4 and I am now able to fully use my keyboard and mouse at the same time. So very happy. But the moment i turn on assistive touch there are a few bugs still. So turned that off. Going to also see if hard drive support is better as I found that buggy with previous versions of iPad 13.
Nice video. Apple has hit it out of the ballpark with the trackpad support. The combination of 12.9 inch iPad Pro and Apple Magic Trackpad 2 is the best computer experience I’ve ever had. This is based on 20 years of non-stop work on various laptops and desktop computers. Nothing comes close to the smooth, laid back complete control that you get with the iPad Pro with the Magic Trackpad 2. Apple may be a greedy company, but this achievement is I think under-recognised and will likely remain so. I sit my iPad Pro on a solid music stand in front of my sofa. I can lean back and watch media on my TV, while occasionally referring to my iPad Pro simply by moving my finger a few mm to control it with the magic trackpad, which is on the sofa next to me. Stressful laptop ergonomics are a thing of the past.
I was able to do almost all of this with an old magic mouse and/or original trackpad by setting them up as controller devices in accessibility settings. This update is more elegant and more intuitive, but for those with legacy controllers... unless Apple stripped that out of IOS13.4, you can use legacy controllers much like what you see in this demo.
So, I’ve also got one of those $30 Bluetooth keyboards that folds and also has a small trackpad. I was able to use it before 13.4 by turning on touch control and setting it up as a controller. After reading here that the trackpad stuff doesn’t work with the older magic pad/mouse... I didn’t expect this cheap Bluetooth keyboard with trackpad to work. Well, it DOES! So far, it looks like it does about 90% of what’s shown in this video. It doesn’t have that cursor motion thing that the host of this video didn’t like. I don’t recall what it’s called, but I likely would’ve turned it off anyway. I can’t scroll the screens, but I can use the little home screen dots to navigate screens. I’m using it right now and it’s pretty cool!

Another tip: If you want to close out an app with the trackpad, all you do is once you're in the app switcher, hover over the app you want to close, and scroll up for natural scrolling enabled, and down for natural scrolling disabled. For mice, I'm pretty sure its exactly the same, so you would just scroll.

Why is apple not supporting Magic Mouse first gen, but supports other cheap bluetooth mice? I am not planning on buying a new Mouse just to have the scrolling capability. I hope they fix this. 😢

I was hoping you would show how to hide and unhide slide over using a mouse. How do you do this?
You should do a video of the Mouse feature using a none Apple Mouse, especially one that has extra buttons, as you can customise buttons to different things like Volume control etc.
I have 2 Logitech mice-MX Anywhere 2 and m535. Scrolling doesn’t function to any useful degree with the MX but have a number of buttons assigned. Because the MX wouldn’t scroll I paired m535 and it scrolls but discovered today it won’t open some things-that was surprise to me. I know you get alert about MX in BT settings saying it will cause issues with WiFi and Bluetooth-and it does. The M had limited buttons to assign but was okay until I discovered for some things I still had to open with finger. So-am contemplating a Magic Trackpad. I use a 2018 12.9 with Brydge keyboard, Pencil and USBc hub.

How do you access the App Switcher on iPad Pro 10.5 inch ( 2017 )? I don’t have the bar on the bottom so I can’t seem to use some of these gestures.

I know you probably won’t read this two weeks after the video dropped... but this video spends a lot of time splitting focus between the mouse and the trackpad. It would have been much better (and shorter) in my opinion if you had done separate videos for each. Thanks for taking the time to create the tutorial though.

With a trackpad, when the side widgets are visible on the home screen, is there a way to show notifications? Does text selection work with third party apps (I happen to most interested MS Office)
I wish it was available with a USB-C port; I'm trying to get rid of everything that uses lightning and I'm DEFINITELY not wanting to buy anything new that uses it
Well done. However, I have found that editing with the mouse is different when using non-iPad-specific apps. For example, editing in Notes is different from editing in Pages or MS Word or MS Excel. On those, apps, it's the same old touch gestures, i.e. "select" or "select all". On Notes and Safari, you can click and drag over a selection, just like you were doing in on a PC and it will highlight it. If there is a way to get them consistent, please let us know.
The update for Pages, Numbers... is supposed to come soon. And MS Office team is fast at adopting new stuff as well.
They must change swipe gestures in apps, like if im using insta360 app i cant rotate around the video, i hope developers do it quick, with trackpad ipad is different now
Is there a way to turn off mouse acceleration on this thing? I hate that the pointer doesn't move at a consistent rate when I move my mouse around.

When I use my mouse it automatically assumes a keyboard is attached now so the on screen keyboard just never comes up? Bug or feature?
Overall, it’s very different to the previous version, but still does need some refinement. Definitely feels like it’s pushing you towards a trackpad over a mouse though - because of the massive amount of “just drag past the top, or bottom”. Means massive mouse movements required. Very unnatural!
I have the same problem with on screen keyboard not coming up while mouse connected. Does anybody know if it is possible to use mouse and on screen keyboard at the same time?
@@vaclavsmejkal2658 yes there is an option in the assistive touch section saying " show on screen keyboard". You probably have that turned off.

No multitouch support for the original Magic Trackpad is biggest kick in crotch ever from Apple, imo. Already gave a feedback to Apple regarding the dumb limitation. Imagine the amazing trackpad support 9to5Mac is showing here, but without scrolling, page navigation, multitasking shortcut, home screen shortcut, etc... it sucks.

5:05 you may have to call your fellow reviewers, youtubers, bloggers... and have them repeat that until they get through their head. since some of them are still focused on the 'can it replace your laptop?' angle, based on the keyboard accessory.

I use the track pad (v2) with my 27 inch iMac, and now it's also working great with my 12.9 iPad Pro and iPad air 2... Tough call. That new Keyboard is tempting.

How do you copy and paste text with keyboard and trackpad? And does anyone know, can the Escape key enabled on Apple Magic Keyboard without NumPad on iPadOS? My escape key does nothing.
I have a ipad pro 10.5 but i have problem now after i update 13.4.1, my problem is during zoom in .in safari web browser i can't move the unseen part of screen by pressing the right botton of my bluetooth mouse,which i can use before the update . Many of these does not work with an iPad with a home button. Especially with a magic mouse (scrolling not available). Non Lightning Magic Mouse.
If I am in an app, how do I escape out of it to get back to the home screen to select another app? I have the magic mouse and smart keyboard.
