  • In this video I unboxed and tested the SoK 12v Lifepo4 Battery. I love the all metal casing and the ability to service everything in the battery. It also comes with BlueTooth communications. Did I mention the battery also has internal heater!? It does. I was pretty surprised with the results of my capacity test... so I did it again... and again...

The 0.2C test is really relevant for a lead-acid battery with a significant Peukert exponent. The exponent for lithium batteries is so close to 1.0 that in practical applications you can ignore the effect of discharge rate on capacity. In other words, physics predicted the result of your 0.2C test would be very similar to your preceding tests. I recently tested 200Ah of TimeUSB batteries at 150 amps and getting 210 to 220 Ah capacity, and the testing goes much quicker! (I'm using a shunt, inverter and space heater.) I can discharge for my test faster than I can charge the next battery for testing!

Thanks for the great info! Maybe I'll make a video discharging a lifepo4 battery from .1C to 1C just to prove the point!

Hey love the video. I have been wanting to put panels on my shed, and run a grid tie inverter. You could do a series where you design one from scratch and what parts you would buy. Thanks and keep it up.

I was getting the Winter Blues with solar. When finally a game changer, Octopus Energy True Green Ethics came out with Bonkers Export to grid rate. 0.25 pence, Could kick start a failing industry in UK. Octopus Energy only just started in some USA states.

That is amazing! I really hope it really ramps up in the US. Thanks for the info.

@@OffGridBasement Its Octopus Flux, might do a video, I don't know regulations in USA, following De-monopolization Any company can sell in any mini state or county of UK, Can any US electric company sell in any state? That really move market on.

@@SolarResurrection I believe everything is dependent on the state you live in. We have several power companies in Illinois, but Texas has only one power company.

@OffGridBasement State, Was very radical shake up, To allow British Gas to become Private IPO, and more iof a stock market approach. So that all electric companies could sell gas Generation, Distribution, Supply. 3 different types of companies structure makes a National Grid, Free flow so any new start up company can sell to any area. Octopus are in texas, Might not be able to expand without, Major National structural overhaul.

99.7 for me is fine, I think thats just the bms looking after the cells , if you tore it down and then took the cells to the absolute min after removing bms it would probably do more than specs. I bought cells from China and I could both Charge and discharge faster and got excess amps before I installed bms , Still learning here though, I enjoy your vids sir.

Thanks for the comment! SoK is a very well built battery! I've got another video coming out with its performance. It was outstanding!

You can get into the Basic Setting using 200010 as password, but you cannot get into the parameter setting without contacting SOK.
BTW, @18:20 make and model of that big inverter? Did you do the review on it? Thanks!

I'd like to know more about the heaters in these "heated batteries". I have 2 100Ah Lifpo4 batteries, not heated.
Is there a stat on heater draw?
For example, it's hovering around freezing here in Michigan. I have controller temp cut off set to 38 deg. (In my trailer parked outside), so no charging. I'm curious if the solar panels would charge with the heater ON, or would it be a wash? I'm considering external 12v heaters.
I'm surprised at the SOK. This battery is on my list of heated batteries, if I upgrade.

I spoke with SoK and they were surprised as well. They said it should get about 103ah. I'm going to do more testing with the heater part of the battery in a later video. Thanks for the comment.

Interesting video. This one sounds like a battery that would work for my Canadian RV friends. How concerned would you be recommending this one.

I think it's a great battery. I want to test the heaters, but it's definitely suited for the cold.

i saw in Amazon A SELLER comment about parallel connection of 1 heated Lifepo4 battery and 1 unheated Lifepo4 battery, TRUE/FALSE / feedback? (I have 1ea 300AH Lifepo4 battery - notsmart/batt) and i want to buy another 300ah smart batt. with Bluetooth to monitor both batteries in 12v parallel from 1 app. But i saw a comment saying do not connect heated and un-heated batts together in series or parallel

    • @OffGridBasement
      @OffGridBasement  Рік тому

I think it really depends on your environment. Will the heated battery ever get below 0⁰C? If so, the heated battery will draw power from both to heat in a parallel setup.
I would never connect in series.
Also, charging could be difficult in a cold environment. The heated battery would heat up to charge and the other would not. That would cause imbalance. If the other battery doesn't have cold charging protection then it would damage the other battery. Hope this helps.

Thank you for your information that means I cannot buy that battery because of South Texas or you guys between 115 120 f. 3 months out of the year

60W (30W per heater pad) according to the spec sheet.

Something wrong with your test. Those batteries typically go over 102 amps.

It's actually the BMS didn't have the cells balanced correctly. They sent me a new BMS that should correct the balancing and give me more capacity. Thanks for the comment.
