Thanks for the compliments. Glad you keep coming back! Russell is an incredible talent.
That is the best sounding guitar i’ve ever heard.
So good to listen to David. A brilliant musician.
Per-Olov Kindgren
I follow your performance videos on youtube sometimes. It’s interesting to see also masters enjoy Listening to Legends.
Per-Olov Kindgren I think both you guys are great. I agree. David’s playing soothes my soul but your playing does too.
And you're not too terribly bad yerself!!
He comes accross as such a sweet and kind person. My all time favourite player by a country mile. If you haven't bought his Grandeur Of The Baroque album, you really must. It's amazing.
I had the good fortune to see David Russell in concert several years ago. He was the most incredible guitarist I’ve ever heard. Just amazingly wonderful.
David is still magic over the years on his performance and sound. It looks simple and he is always telling a story with his poetic sound. I know him since Alicate beach Spain on masterclasses with Jose Tomas with only a tent and a guitar.
A true ambassador of the classical guitar around the world.
Bye for now
Mr Russell ....you are a giant guitarist.......what a beautiful, extraordinary performance......i wish you health and much more success...!
Thanks for saying so! D. Russell is fantastic.
i like his humble and friendly attitude that maby a part of why he have becomed so good at the guitar
I believe real musicians have some sort of elevated spirit... looke at this gentleman; he always puts a smile on my face!
So glad to hear you say that! We definitely pride ourselves in having pro audio recordings. UA-cam is great for so many things, but sadly live music audio quality is often pretty sub par.
Mr. Russell is right, the soud of that guitar is great !
All my pain and sadness go away when listening to this.
Beautiful interpretation, harmony. Thanks WGBH Music for sharing David Russel playing.
The combination of his tone and that guitar is amazing.
Great interpretation from David Russell , and what a lovely female voice, thank you

David N°1. Strumento dal suono bellissimo!
Loved that the interviewer asked about the instrument.
I love His Spattish accent!
This is so beautiful...
Thanks, Santiago. Glad you enjoyed the vid!
Like a perfect union. The resonant woody sound allowed David to dress tone in sound.
Ah! Heart touching!
Hey, thanks for the nice comment!
So Beautiful! Thanks Maestro!
What a guitarist...
And big thanks for subscribing!
Thanks for sharing! Excellent guitarist.
I hope that one day this arrangement by Gerald Garcia is published (I don't think it already is).
Thanks for the kudos!
DIVINE!!
I agree. Our guitar-maker Mr.Matousek makes very good master-guitars also.
My goodness, what beautiful resonance. Hard to say- is that the sound engineer, that Damon guitar, Maestro Russel, or some ethereal combination of these things ?
Magical ❤️☺️
Que fraseado!!! Está cada vez melhor!
Precioso!!!
Gran guitarrista, impecable interpretación
Genial!!!
Sometimes I return to listen again this interpretation.
Good shooting video and audio!
Russell has a way of offering phrases and use dynamics of this melody that is absolutely touching, each time more.
Hermosa pieza, bellamente interpretada y ejecutada. La ecualización es simplemente magnífica.
Check out the Bridge at :37 you can see that the insert in the bridge has been reduced to allow easy contact on the fretboard very clever. While not compromising the sound from the base strings. CGSNI.
Nice observation, Colin. Thanks for leaving a comment.
+Colin Burnside Excellent catch.
Just discover this channel. Wonderful.
(blushing)
This Guitar is one of the best Guitars of Matthias Dammann i heard!
Great
Awesome video. I think this might be the best "channel" on youtube... maybe even the internet.
He looks a bit tired, I hope he is perfect now I want to continue listen to him for other 50 years.
In my opinion Per-Olov Kidgren and David Russel are two living legends in the art of HEAVENLY MUSIC.
I put out my hat at Mr.Russel. And at you Per-Olov too!

Per-Olov

Where could i get the sheet Music for this beauty
Gorgeous!!!! Any way we can obtain a copy of the music sheet of this piece?
+Yuliboe Vatser Sorry if this is too late, but Sheetmusicplus carries his arrangments, Message of the Sea: Celtic pieces for Classical Guitar Vol. 1, its fantastic.
Ha! Give us a heads up so we can alert security. Just kidding, thanks for the support!
Does anyone know what microphone was used here? Stunning
Awesome maestro...
What kind of microphones to recorded the pieces?
Hahaha, Gerald Garcia. Crazy man.
Scotland finest!
That guitar is somewhat bass heavy and dark for me though. I prefer a warmer sound.
Wow great performance! Great piece! Is anybody here who could help me out and tell me the tuning? You'd make me happy!
xyzabc Standard tuning with the exception of the bass E string which is lowered to D.
Is there a webiste where I can purchase this piece?

David Russell plying " My Gentle Harp"by Sir Thomas Moore, the vocals I used to do this" mixed emotion",lyrics,my avant garde harp guitar and alto fiddle and mandolin @ Barbara Salisbury 155vids UA-cam.com.Would be a nice Harp guitar piece also!Chris Young
Does anyone have tabs or sheet music?
One of Thomas Moores best.
You're not bad yourself... ;)
To my ear, this guitar is loud and clear in the mid and bass range. Yes, this piece is mostly played in that range. But I hear the first and second string "less volume" as compared to the mid range and bass strings. I would prefer to hear the 1st and 2nd strings equally as loud as the bass strings, but I didn't hear that in this Dammann guitar. Just my opinion.
+robertbdesmond Yes, it sounded to me like the 1st and 2nd strings were weak, lacking resonance. But I couldn't be sure that that wasn't just the way he wanted them to sound on that song.
Could play a guitar with that sound all day. But wait, you have to change the strings every two weeks and file your nails x number of times so I won't bother with the hassle and will continue with the piano instead. :-(
Actually, Tarquin, the guitar is low maintenance as an instrument. Change the strings whenever it suits you - I keep mine for many months - and smoothing nails takes seconds when you have got the hang of it. On the other hand my harpsichord professor tunes her harpsichord every day - by ear - with three courses of string across five octaves - now that's time consuming. Of course the organic expressiveness of these two instruments is preferable to the industrialised over-resonant piano and the subtleties available on the guitar are simply not available to pianists.
I guess the piano offers a great deal in terms of dynamics and it's resources to manage a complex score - "Gaspard de la Nuit" for instance - but when it comes to warmth, humanity, expressiveness and the sheer beauty of sound I think the classical guitar takes some beating.
lol
why don't they just have a cutaway for gods sake?
I liked his old Damman much better
